I own a sailboat and see whales almost every week, life jackets are recommended and I don't leave the dock without one. Also turning your engine on while a whale is underneath your boat could injure the whale and or you. Whales are mostly harmless, but they can be dangerous in some cases regarding "hitting" your boat. The whales were here before we were so show some respect to them. Whales are also very intelligent meaning they usually know what their doing. I tell my passengers to not worry if a whale gets close because there's a 99% chance they won't bump or hit us and if they do there's almost no way we would flip (on a sailboat).

Wow, we are on Aegean Sea. We never ever see any sharks, any wild huge animals on the sea. But first thing I saw in the last videos after top 5, that they know something and they don't move. But I'm like "what if?" :) Especially, since there are no any sharks and wild animals in our seas, we never think about the danger, we freely dive in and swing. The only thing we matter is where there is a beautiful beaches. Hundred years ago, people used to scare of the sea/ocean, including pirates, sailors, fisherman and so on as I remember. Last time, I was reading the news about Antartica, there is no any tourist anymore for the virus all over the world. While I was reading that, I just thought about the danger of the water if a man fall in. I think they thought the same years ago. It was dangerous and still is in some waters.

This is one of my biggest fears when I’m swiming or are on a boat
@politicallycorrectredskin7964 жыл бұрын
Nothing to fear from whales. You just have to know where they are, particularly the bulls since they can pretty ornery. And orcas never attack people. Which I find so weird since they gladly hunt and kill dolphins and seals. The only thing I'm afraid of in the oceans are box jellies, since you can't see them and they kill. Apparently only white people though, because they can't see them or something. They see black people and swerve out of the way, so that's a bit unfair in some ways. I also have an irrational fear of eels after having been...fondled by one as a boy. They don't bite but are curious and like human body heat so get very touchy and weird. But that part did not register in my nine year old brain, and I'm still sort of scared of eels and similar fish. Not sharks though. They are very predictable and don't molest you like eels do. Just don't look like a fish or a seal and you're good.

It is not possible to fully appreciate the majesty of a whale without looking up at one. I was whale watching from a small fishing boat off Cape Code years ago and we were surrounded by humpbacks that kept breaching and over and over they were far above the water, some breaching above the highest point of the mast. Yet they were all quite gentle. We just pulled up near where we hoped would be whales then cut the engine. Within minutes curious younger ones followed by fully adult ones surrounded us. Several began "spy hopping" looking into the boat to check us out. One used our boat to scrape barnacles off it's chest, a common behavior. There are not many opportunities for whales to remove itchy barnacles except for boats. I know of one guy who outfitted the bow of his boat with a steal bar and as soon as the whales figured out what it was for they lined up to scrape the barnacles off themselves with if much more efficiently than they had on other boats. For several years he went out there almost every day to photograph whales and they would oblige him since he was nice enough to provide a scraping bar for them to use. Generally whales are very gentle around people. They are very aware of their surroundings and rarely attack humans. But if you harass them or especially if you attack them they will retaliate. They are very smart. Some of the older ones remember wood sailing ships coming to hunt them and yes, there are some whales are are around 200 years old and they have a very good memory.

I don't know much (ok... not anything) about whales, except that they fascinate me. The folks in that third boat had sticks and other things and appeared to be purposely banging the side of the boat for some reason. Is that why their boat seemed to have been forcefully overturned? i.e. not by accident? and are the whales hurt by the propellers they must encounter?

I mean...did #1 really moving away from the sailboat im asking since it's seems to me that they were traveling away from the boat and laughing about it?! In norway we have a duty that in simply way says: "duty for helping other people in need." Didn't they thought that the people would be needed some help for getting away from the situation? The sailing were destroyed as well... selfishness people!! And the way whale were landing up at the boat. The people in the boat could been seriosly hurt or were between life or death.
