Top 5 Worst Animated Films of 2023

Not gonna lie, out of all the animated films on the worst list I feel the most sorry for, it’s Ruby Gilman. It’s just sad it was almost entirely neglected by Universal Studios by them barely marketing the film and spoiling the twist of Chelsea being an evil mermaid and not even delaying the film so the crew could have more time to rework the story to avoid being similar to Luca. Out of all the animated films of last year, Ruby Gilman was the one with the most potential that was sadly poorly executed and at least I’d take it over DreamWorks’ other 2023 animated film Trolls Band Together because however you feel about Ruby, at least I can say it was a flawed attempt to make an original animated film while Trolls Band Together was clearly a cash grab to profit off of the franchise and sell more Trolls toys and dumb pop songs.

They weren't bad movies with the exception of Netflix's The monkey king that movie wasted it's potential. Universal Did Ruby so dirty and because of the lack of Public awareness and build up to release it became DreamWorks worst performing movie a great shame that it sunked at the box office like that. Trolls Band together isn't as strong as DreamWorks 2022 output but isn't the worst but lackiest of their recent movies. Ladybug and Cat Noir was pretty good if your a fan of the show but are lost when your coming in as a new comer like Mat and The magician's elephant which I'm remembering now happened like monkey king wasted it's potential but is more likeable. The only good thing about Monkey king is it has descent animation that's it.

I strongly agreed with you. Chicken Run 2 Dawn of the Nugget is a lazy rehash of its predecessor all over just like Disney's direct to DVD sequels the Little Mermaid 2 and Jungle Book 2. Chicken Run 2 isn't really the worse but I would put this on third spot but the title still goes to Trolls Fucked Together.

Personally I think The Monkey King is the worst film of 2023. While I do get why people hate trolls 3 and it definitely has flaws, it at least has some good covers, some funny jokes, nice animation and none of the characters are unlikeable. Not only that but you gotta keep in mind that trolls main audience is kids, I'm not trying to say that just because its for kids it should excuse its flaws, but I just think its really unfair to call it soulless when you can tell that they at least tried to put effort in it The Monkey King is genuinely one of the most mean spirited films I've seen in a while with almost every character being a massive jerk (especially Sun Wukong) and to me it feels like its trying to copy the energy and tone of The Emperor's New Groove without understanding why it worked for that film

I haven't seen The Magician's Elephant yet. It's also the only Australian animated film of 2023. I completely agree, there are worse ones out there like Cats at the Museum from Russia or Asylum's Little Mermaid. Trolls Band Together is my favourite animated film of the year.

Chicken run Dawn of the Nugget is a alright picture following up a great movie rewatched the first movie yesterday and it holds up well 23 years later and trying to live up to that level of greatness was going to hold back the sequel. The monkey king deserves the number one spot for being mean spirited, Poorly written and wastes it's potential with the bad storytelling you could've had most of the movie not happen and skip to him being locked away learning his lesson and being released and had started a better movie just a suggestion.

I am happy 😊 and glad that Trolls Band Together is added on the top number one spot. Here is why: 1. The story is predictable especially ripping off Blue Brothers and Yellow Submarine, filled so many cliches and tropes with Branch and Poppy reuniting their long lost siblings which is the overused formulaic cliche trope in DreamWorks sequels where the DreamWorks protagonist reunited a long lost family relative like Fiona reunited with her long lost parents in Shrek 2, Alex reunited with his long lost parents in Madagascar 2, Hiccup reunited with his long lost mother in HTTYD 2 and Po reunited with his long lost father in Kung Fu Panda 3. 2. None of their siblings are likable amd have no personality, they are either, annoying, bland and forgettable - John Dory is the worse and the most annoying, selfish and terribly written brother character since Scoorch Supernova from Escape from Planet Earth. He is the main reason why the band split up and he always put the blamed on everyone including his own brothers and always argue with them. He only cares about being famous and toke his brothers fame for granted. And never once he put the blame on himself. They try way too hard making him a likable jerk like Daffy Duck or Kuzco from the Emperor's New Groove but it takes good writing to make a selfish jerk become a charming character but due to the lazy writing ✍️🏻 he comes off unlikable selfish jerk like Surly from the Nut Job and Adam Sandler from Eight Crazy Nights. I do question myself, why on Earth 🌎 would John Dory be interested bringing back the band together if he still continued being a selfish unlikable prick throughout the entire movie?! Seriously, he is so annoying and unlikable he makes Dru from Despicable Me 3 look like a gentleman in comparison. The other brothers are so bland and forgettable I completely forgot their names and personalities after watching the movie 🎬 Floyd only purpose to exist just to be a Mcguffen/Plot device and the voice of reason Also their name brand "Bro Zone", that is the most stupidest, laziest, generic, boring, and lamest name you can came up for a music band!!!!! They only pick that name just to be hip and modern with the young kids. Viva only have limited screentime despite heavily marketing and she has no emotional connection with Poppy I felt no bond no connection with their siblings relationships Viva and Poppy are the most poorly written sister duo relationship in animated film and they are no Lilo and Nani, no Satsuki and Mei and certainly no Anna and Elsa. Viva should have been the main focus instead of Branch's forgettable brothers so yeah who gives a flying FUCK about a boys band splitting off and reunited?! Their siblings only exist just to sell off toys 🧸 Branch and Poppy's romance relationship feels so forced and rushed. Their kiss scene feels extremely forced and rushed. Poppy is extremely toxic and annoying towards Branch and it makes me wish he should've break up and cut ties with her. The other characters especially Poppy's friends and the Cloudy Guy don't do shit 💩 and they contribute no purpose to the story. Their scenes are pointless filler. 3. The villains Velvet and Veneer are the worse terribly written DreamWorks sequel villains ever made. They are obviously ripoffs of Jessie and James from Pokémon anime who know the smart female who has temper and the male character who is dumber and their motive are rip-offs of Ernesto de la Cruz from Coco who steals someone's else music talent to gain more fame and glory for their selfish gain. Plus - their designs feel extremely out of place and they are ugly and hideous to look at. They look like cheap reject models from Ruby Gillman. 4. The animation is bland and dull just like the previous movies and the 2d animation feels like ripping off Yellow Submarine and it feels out of place and it look like if it was animated by John K., the creator of Ren and Stimpy 5. The comedy is cringe especially those cringey Bro puns 6. The songs are butchered and extremely auto tuned 7. The voice acting feels wooden 8. The climax is extremely anti climatic especially a downgrade comparable to the climax from Puss in Boots 2 the Last Wish 9. The tone is far more childish and juvenile 10. The fanboys are toxic just like the Star Wars fanboys.
