Ya Funny thing I had a x type that actually lasted quite a while… the interior leather was far better than my older S class as well better than my much newer Audi. The all-wheel-drive system was rear biased so you could drift in winter… it had real wood on the dash and yes some parts were expensive but being a Ford basis power plant many of the parts were actually quite cheap

Great list, but like many have mentioned the X Type is just not in the same league as the others. Was it a good or great car? No. Being based on a Mondeo is hardly a bad thing. Yeah they were a bit shoddy for the money, but they are far from the worst offenders. I think the Citroen Plurial should easily take its spot. There won’t be as many complaints because there are way less of them. But they do truly represent one of the worst cars to ever make it to production.

Basically anything from FCA (especially Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep) gets a lot of reports for poor quality and reliability - a mate bought a Nitro and then a Jeep Renegade and both had massive massive issues even after FCA replaced the whole car for a new one in the case of the Nitro - massive problems with the new replacement too.

We at the Kingsdown Jaguar Fan Club find your fifth choice a tad troublesome. We would suggest that while reliability may not have been exemplary for the X-type it has more style than a James Bond tux and more soul than your dad’s record collection. Best regards KJFC

I drove around in a Hummer H3 in LA for about 2 weeks when the hire car I had originally booked was unavailable, so they gave me the H3. Had the cornering dynamics of a brick and consumed as much petrol as an F1 car. I recall getting economy of around 28L/100km. But it had a serious street presence and it made you feel like a rap music star driving one.

4 out of 5 ain't bad. X type should not have been included. Whilst the chassis is based on Mondeo, it was heavily modified by Jaguar. The facelift X type more or less addressed most of the launch car's shortcomings and became a moderately good car. There are literally tens of cars that are patently worse than the X type. VW Beetle reboot, Mitsubishi Mirage and any number of early Chinese brand imports come to mind. Sorry but you got this one wrong. It's ok to admit it.

Horses for courses, as they say, but I disagree a bit about the X-type Jag. I have one and having had many cars over a long life time, I just love my Jag. Yes expensive and complicated to fix, but my 3.0 AWD Sports is just an awesome vehicle. Superior road holding and handling, excellent performance, smooth and quiet ride and I just love those seats. Being smaller than the XJ (etc) cars, it is nimble and love the winding roads. Can drive it all day and dare I say it, it cost a pitance to buy (thanks to opinions such as your video). No rust, no squeaks, nothing falling off. I'll take you for a run next time you're around here!

This is an Ok list. But it's easy to make it much bigger: 1. Any British car. Some of these are pretty. Some are comfortable. Some drive well. But all of them are completely unreliable and will cost a fortune to maintain and repair. This includes all Land Rover/Range Rovers, all Jaguars, any Lotus and all expensive luxury cars (Aston Martin, Bentley, Rolls). 2. Any Italian car. Same as #1. Fiats, Alfas, Lancias, Masaratis, Ferraris, Lamborghinis--all are rolling disastres. 3. Any used German car (including Mini). Once upon a time, Mercedes could run to 100,000 miles easily and VWs were cheap and reliable. Those days are gone. Any German car will cost a fortune in parts and maintenance. If you must own one, than lease it, as 3 years is its designed useful life. BMWs and Minis are notorious for plastic parts that fail quickly, despite being very expensive. And the complex electronics are disasters waiting to happen. 4. Volvos. Boring to drive and unreliable. Engines are overstressed and prone to blow up. So what's left? Obviously, Japanese cars are usually a pretty safe bet, with a few exceptions (some Nissans, Hondas and Mitsubishis.) Korean cars have improved a lot, especially Hyundai/Genesis. Some American cars are not too bad, although Chrysler and Jeep are best avoided. And French cars are a mixed bag, but Peugeots are not too bad and Renaults are fun to drive. If you buy a Mazda, Toyota or Lexus, than you probably won't be sorry and some of them are actually quite a lot of fun to drive.

I've been driving Stavics (yes I still own my second Stavic) since 2009, buy them used and use them as a work van ( half the price of the cheapest working van in the market), 1st one was 2005 4X4, brilliant in construction sites, second one 2011 RWD only, both have Mercedes 2.7 ltr 5 cylinder diesel engine, and Mercedes 5 speed auto, with gear shifters on steering wheel, auto climate air cond with rear controls and vents, great fuel economy, very reliable, a lot of power, both passed 200k KMs and still going very well, never had any problem with either, the one I have right now haven't even changed oil engine in more than 3years, runs well, everything works well including sunroof, very comfortable as working van, yes it looks funny, but, very good reliable vehicle, you are welcome to have to have a look, and..no it's not for sale, Mate, you got it horribly wrong about the Stavic, thank you,

I couldn't DISagree more on your opinion on the X-type. It's quite literally the opposite of what you said. Many cars are based on other cars it's not as if the X-type is the first one. Audis are based on VWs, Infiniti on Nissan, cadillac on chevy, lexus on toyota, genesis on hyundai and kia, etc... but somehow the X-type got all the hatred. It os not a perfect car bit it is not bad either. It is fairly and relatively reliable and it handles well. I avoided the AWD and got me 2.1 front wheel drive that does its job adequately.

@@gc857 Wow. Great to hear you've had excellent experiences with your vehicles and it's just a shame many don't share your faultless reliability records regarding JLR product. The experts we use aren't just keyboard warriors but are technicians, engineers and mechanics that have worked in the automotive industry for decades. Some of which currently work and have worked exclusively on Land Rover and Jaguar products. With their help, the information we communicate is as objective as we can possibly make it. As far as negative reviews, the vast majority of what we post is positive in nature. Even the Land Rover Discovery 4 review video raves about what a joy the Disco is to drive and how near perfect it is in so many ways. We worry we're too positive at times and people will discount our content as it's predominantly positive in nature. Finally, I'm fortunate to be in a position to buy any Land Rover or Range Rover product I'd like, however the current car collection is already taking up more space than my apartment parking allocation and storage area allows. It's not a matter of affordability, just that other cars have taken my attention over the JLR products....for now. - AK

We reach out to dozens of mechanics and technicians and read through what feels like countless consumer and reliability reports when putting these Top 5s together in an attempt to keep them as scientific and accurate as possible and these were the results. In saying that, can we reach out to you for your opinion on future vids? As a former Jag tech, your knowledge would be much valued. - AK

You are very wrong about Jaguar xtype 3.0 AWD. It's a fantastic car.
@ReDriven

It very well may be for you and many others Lucian but the problem is, when we researched this topic over the past few weeks, reading a vast range of various consumer and reliability reports, looking at sales figures of spare parts for specific vehicles, after questioning various mechanics, technicians and experts, the X-Type did very badly. There's no denying some owners (like yourself) have had minimal issues and adore their car, but even the guy that edited this very video owned one and he had nothing but dramas and issues. - AK

If you really want a Hummer (I don't know why anyone would want to own one), get the H3. The H1 is too cramped inside despite it being too large for most roads, the H2 has poor build quality, and the EV is too expensive (and way heavier than it has a right to be, IMO).

I can't help wondering if you actually ever drove an X-type Jaguar? I have a 3.0 AWD and it is an awesome car. It is big, spacious and comfortable. It handles fantastic on the road due to its AWD and it does 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds, so is powerful enough when needed. No doubt it is expensive in repairs and spare parts when it needs to pass by the official workshop but then.... who would buy a Jaguar thinking "great I now own a cheap and economic car"?
@ReDriven
@ReDriven 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Morten, yep have driven a few of them and the guy that edited this video actually owned one. We're sorry mate but we stand by the list. It wasn't that it's a bad car to drive as such, it's fine, but in our opinion (and the opinion of the dozens of experts we call on to formulate these lists), it's certainly no standout in driving dynamics terms. However, here in Australia the cost of parts and maintenance and the regularity of major mechanical dramas that occur with them, we'd recommend steering well clear. Sorry mate. - AK

Both the Mk3 mondeo and the fwd Xtype are very close on curb weight (within 3kg in some cases). The awd version weighs more but has different suspension so I think you are wrong there.

@@ReDriven This is not true. The estate version of the 3.0 AWD Jaguar X-type is a very light car for its size. Around 1600 kg. (and way more powerful than the Mondeo). Basing a car on another frame does not make it that other car, when most parts have been replaced and refined.
