My first car was a 2007 Peugeot 107 for £1500. Paid £2080 insurance in my first year when I was 17. Got a 2006 ford fiesta zetec S diesel in my second year for £1900 and now after 5 years driving I'm paying £500 with wheels and headlights declared on mods.

Seat ibiza 6l 1.9 tdi is a great first and fun car and cheap on insurance for a 1.9. Being a pd engine power gains are good and easy! Strong engines too and I think they look/ drive spot on

£3k…. 😂 back in 2011 I bought myself a 2003 Citroen Saxo Furio 1.4 8v for £500 drove it for 6 months, then bought a 2006 25k mile 1.6 16v Peugeot/Citroen engine with all supporting parts and new gaskets, belts etc.. for £800 then had a garage fit the engine and along with the new wiring loom for £500. Was around £1800-£2000 when all done and back on the road then mapped with the cams set up and made a healthy 148bhp. Not bad for back in 2011/12 and especially as the thing stripped was 830kg.

Luckily my dad is a mechanic so has many cars in and out, he gave me his 2003 1.5dci Megane as he got his one ready. So I didn't pay for the car but it wouldn't have cost very much anyway, probably £500 to £600. Cost me £1100 to insure it, no black box and comprehensive. £30 a year to tax and 5 star safety rating when it was new. It did have 160,000 miles but it lasted to 200k before it needed a different engine, cost me £250 but don't k ow the mileage, still going strong though, so can't have been a too high milage engine. £600 + £1100 + £30 = £1730 Not too bad for a first car taxed, mot'd and insured while being 18

I’ve heard a lot about the 1.0 eco boost being unreliable but I’ve also heard about stupid insurance of anything above 1.3l and I don’t know what else to get?

Just a word of warning of any of you are yet to take your driving test. I passed my test last year and the quotes for insurance they give you are NOTHING like what they say. Also there is a BIG difference in price even between a 1 litre and 1.2 litre. I mean if you can afford it then do it. But a black box is the way to go! (most have no curfews or daily mileage caps these days) Honestly, unless you really can afford it, just stick with a small engine as possible with black box then it will go down considerably a year later trust me

Back in my day the best first cars were Corsa b sport/Sri or saxo Westcoast or a 106 quicksilver. That was almost 15 years ago now tho 😂

The most basic video ever. I’m 17 with a 320d m sport stage 1 e46. Love it! But I get my one years ncd soon and I love the petrol sound and feel like going back to a hatchback as a coupe long car is a little to grown up for me. Especially with the b roads about. Would be cool to see a video of 18 year olds cool special unique and fast cars. My bmers 6.5 to 60. So it’ll be hard to beat that and still get insurance below 2.5k

There is a far better first car for any new driver. The Skoda Fabia Estate. However my partners first car is a 1.6 Kia Venga a tiny automatic hatchback but it is a tardis much bigger on the inside.

I got quoted a fortune for one after I passed. Personally if you can get a smaller engine you should. The insurance will be extortionate. Then after a year it’ll go down significantly. Have you thought about a 1.2 polo?

Corsa is a decent car ,but you also need to look from the younger generation as the corse has the stereotype of a "nonce car" and that they take their secondary school girlfriends to McDonald's , yeah its just a stereotype but please know this before buying the youngn a car

Fiesta zetec s is not reliable piston ring went at 31k miles, almost taking more to fix it than the car costs right now. save up for a polo instead

Isn,t that more down to the oiling (pressure/quality) . I have a 1.4 Ford Puma and true it burns 5w30 quite fast but 5w40 a little bit less and it,s a 270k plus engine. Imported from italy so not rusty except from surface rust but Italians are notorious for not taking care of their cars or so I hear atleast

The Renault is the fastest out of all of those the Tce has 101 Bhp but is so light it does 0-60 around 9.5-10 secs a lot quicker than the fiestas and corsas

A friend of ours at a local renaultsport specialist workshop had a twingo a few years back now with the tce engine messing around with it ending up being a 145bhp workshop run around parts car. The Renaultsport twingo 1.6 16v 133 cup is a great little car which can be had in this budget, just insurance could be a tad more compared to the 1.4 cars of the same era.
