Requiem J316 And then it wouldn't work from the hand because you need to control *no* cards. What you should be doing instead is looking at why cards like this are being made in the first place. These are bandaid solutions to broken turn 1 boards that result in instant losses. Those boards are unbreakable because of two reasons: 1: There is no Master Rule that limits *all cards* to be hard once per turns. Konami's lazy solution has been to limit/ban certain cards (like Quik-fix) or errata them (which means more time and money spent reprinting new copies). A simple rule change here would save a lot of time and money on unnecessary work in the future, as well as text space on the cards themselves. 2: There is *no limit on special summons.* This is the most important factor and the main thing that would need to be changed if this game is to ever be taken seriously going forward. Most other card games have natural limits on actions you can take per turn based on Mana Crystals, Lands, etc. But YGO doesn't. Ironically, in regards to point number 2, the 1 speed counter per turn rule from the 5D's field spell Speed World is something that *does* exist withing YGO and *does* mirror a resource management system, which limits spell usage and stronger spells from being used early on. It's very unfortunate that this concept was ultimately dropped as it was mainly meant for the TV show, but if there had been a Master Rule incorporating it's concept, a lot of problems within the game would have been fixed a long time ago. Konami may not be a very smart company, but given the right management this game can improve drastically at the snap of someone's finger.

Thats the problem with it, that you can use it on eather turn. If you had to control a monster, then it could only work on your opponants turn. Plus its a trap, it realy shouldnt activate in the hand anyways... - Danger!

Limiting special summons is an interesting concept. I think installing natural limits such as what we have in Magic would add an interesting sense of balance and would most likely not effect entry-level players. Regarding effects, I believe certain archetypes have, at the very least, proven to not be top tier from not having hard once-per-tuns (Lunalights). The splashable stuff is another story of course. As for Evenly Matched, I was implying the concept of keeping the hand-activation effect strictly during the opponents turn. My reasoning was similar to the ruling of Double Iris not being able to apply it's effect first turn. (Eg. "If Double Iris can't activate it's effect during the first turn because there's no Battle Phase, there should also be no Battle Phase if there's nothing on-field capable of battling.)

Thats a good point. I find it realy anoying when you are running a fun deck, (in my case was a Chazz Princeton Character deck), and finnaly summoning VWXYZ Dragon Catapult Cannon during MF2. Then my opponant running Trickstars, hit me with EM on thier turn, then do all the bullcrap and i lost on my draw phase. - Danger!

The whole meta keeps me salty. After 8 years of not playing or collecting I feel like I've come back to a completely different game (yes, I understand things must grow & progress). Like most things in this day & age, it lack originality (mainly people's card choices.) I don't know, maybe I am wrong, but I miss seeing people have really weird "rogue" decks that play combos you may have never thought of that in turn inspires you to find other uses for the cards in the combo(s) you just went up against. I don't like the concept of cards just laying around post-meta, I feel like players don't return to old cards enough. It's like, "New meta, who dis?", to old cards these days. Just makes me a little bleh sometimes.

WithinRevelations Not really though. Old cards have been resurfacing quite often nowadays, especially after link era. Look at grinder spam or plants like dandylion. Magic cylinder is used in some variants of trickstars. And nobody ever paid attention to Droll&Lock untill Reincarnation hit.

Definitely true, but then you still have everyone just running the same old cards. I understand from a competitive stand point it makes sense. For me though, I just miss seeing random cards from individual players, cards that makes you think "wow, who runs this, that was a great choice" instead of "oh, they're playing grinder golem cause someone found a way to make it broken." I miss seeing the creativity & innovation. Like I said I'm a returning player from a while back so I guess I'm just still getting use to things. The format changes are just so crazy from my perspective. All in all though I'm happy getting back into Yu-gi-oh! because when I was younger I didn't have access to the internet & there was no Yu-g-ioh! community where I lived. Just the information I could get from magazines here & there, a few friends, & my older cousin.

But this time it's all cookie cutter meta sheep BS. I still play casual with fun rogue decks but yeah I avoid tournaments. Nobody wants a fun 15-20 turn scrap anymore.

I think Konami’s main idea behind Reincarnation was as a counter to decks that have a lot of consistency in the current meta. Take Pendulum Magicians for example, they can set up their scales, load up their board, and get a couple searches to load up their hand. If you don’t have an out then it’s basically gg from there. In my opinion, Reincarnation gives you basically a “second chance”. However I understand that going first, you can load up your board and get your searches and then set Reincarnation and wait for you opponent to start their turn, but again I think it’s main purpose in Konami’s mind was to disrupt consistency and avoid overextension.

It does suck that there aren’t more counters to mass banishing. Artifact Lancea works but only during your opponents turn. So great against Evenly Matched, not so much against reincarnation.

This list is super on point. The only thing I disagree with is bagooska because it is an accessible stun for 2 turns if you go first, even against most link decks simply because they can't use their monsters effects plus with a solemn strike or something it is a reliable defense for more rogue strategies. I maybe be biased as I am partial to stun strategies, but I find bagooska a necessary evil in the meta.

Evenly Matched because it kills BA so hard, Maxx C because it’s pretty much a lose-lose situation nowadays, Snow for the lack of once per turn, Reincarnation for the degenerate plays while also killing any attempt to search if the opponent decides to not activate during Standby Phase and is so difficult to play around, Dimesional Prison because who doesn’t love to use their graveyard to establish/aid plays

Here are the cards that I hate the most right now: 5. Eater of Millions: I really hate this thing. It's an easy out to so many monsters. If it weren't for quick-effect removal, I would probably hate this card even more. I would honestly prefer Kaijus over this. 4. Cosmic Cyclone: Just sheerly because it banishes my Pendulum Scales every time I play Pendulums. Not broken, just annoying as hell. 3. SPYRAL Resort: This card is so annoying to deal with. Diverts almost all tareting effects towards it and forces you to run more hand traps/backrow removal than you should need to. I feel dirty almost every time I play this card. 2. Evenly Matched: Who made this card? Why did they feel this card was a necessary addition to the game? 1. Maxx "C": Why is this card still legal? Almost every time I drop it I win and almost every time my opponent drops it on me, I lose. This card has overstayed its welcome in this game and needs to finally get lost.

Also Evenly Matched should have had the text make your opponent banish face down equal to half the difference of cards you control and cards your opponent controls. Also make it a set Pay 4000 instead of half life points to activate from hand at end of Battle Phase

Completely agree about Ash Blossom/Reincarnation. I've said so many times before, Ash Blossom needs to get hit. Especially with the steep price its sitting at, you're pretty much guaranteed a poor standing at any tournament unless you have butt-loads of money to shell out just to compete. As for Reincarnation...I've thought maybe hitting Droll and Lock...that combo is absolutely ridiculous.

I dueled against a trickstar player who used the droll reincarnation combo my turn 1, he beat me with no cards in my hand or field. like how can you stop a card set before your first turn, activated before your first main phase, that results in you having a main phase 1 with no cards in hand. unless you're playing a deck that actually likes being banished (metaphys) you can't recover from that unless you happen to have ash too.

I know a card I hate is "Meda Bat". He's a fiend with 800 atk! Plus he's able to fly around and dodge attacks like nothing! As if that wasn't bad enough, I usually end up surrendering when my opponent plays Shapesnatch. There's no way to get past that thing. Just automatically controls all my monsters!

Here are healthy alternatives for some of those cards: Instead of having evenly matched we can have torrential tribute at 3 Instead of ash blossom we can have maxx c at 3 because maxx c is a card that won’t stop you from playing Yugioh but has a risk. And the game is moving so fast that i see cards like maxx c being so fair because the player that goes first will get tons of pluses but in exchange maxx c will give the other player a few cards so he/she would have a chance against that board Rank 4s in my opinion must be offensive and for one turn only but 41 is just a floodgate on legs which isn’t what a generic rank 4 should be but must be one-turn offensive stuff like castel, utopia the lightning, dark rebellion ect.

How to deal with Bagooska: Forbidden Challice No one's expecting it and it negates Bagooska. Evenly Matched: Six Samurais are very good at negating it cuz Shi En and they have a negating counter trap you can drop from hand.

I'm salty about Reincarnation (who tough this was a good idea? Banishing 5 resources from your oponent is just unfair), Evenly Matched (Dark Hole, Kaiju Slumber and Raigeki are all limited and they make this a thing? It's better than all of then combined) AND, in my opinion, the most OP card ever printed by konami, Ash Blossom (That's it, Konami literally saying "fuck you if you like to play casual" the card is SO unfair I can make a list of the reasons why, no counterplay, you can't tell if your oponent has it or not, stops half the entire game) actually, if Ash Blossom gets a reprint and don't get hit on the banlist I will stop playing this game bacause of how cancerous the card is

Evenly matched is.. a hand trap in disguise. I don’t think Konami knows how to make cards.... >.> banishing is such a powerful mechanic now... mass banishing? Kind of defeats the purpose of any kind of protection effects because they are all pretty much target and destruction protection... Ash blossom deserves its spot... too broad and too good of an effect to not play it at 3 in some way in your Deck... only counter is... solemn Strike? Instead of making the player select which cards get banished, it should let them choose which get spared. This way, the banishing would be done by the card's effect, not the player, thus allowing some cards to be protected if they are immune to traps.

Oh, I would do much worse to this card if I could, but for some reason, there are actually delusional folks that think it's balanced! I'll admit that if it didn't activate from the hand, it would be trash, if it destroyed, too many things would float, banishing face-up would barely make a difference because very few decks actually interact with banished cards, so what else is there to make it less broken? Make it target? That could work if there weren't so many monsters immune to targeting.

I don't understand why all my friends think Ash Blossom would be fine as long as it got reprinted. No, it would be even worse; too many people running and overpowered card. It deserves to get semi-limited at the very least, but I wouldn't mind it getting limited. On a side note; I love the shirt and the little punch in the opening 10/10

+Joshua Ravo Thanks! And I actually actively fear the day Ash Blossom gets reprinted. A lot of players tend to let card price influence their perception of a card's power level and balance. Ash Blossom as a $5 super might outright ruin local and casual Yu-Gi-Oh.

Team APS Exactly! I don't want to have to fear getting constantly Ashed at my locals playing Tindangles or something (on of my favorite newer archetypes) and have all the fun ruined. One can only hope for it get limited/semi-limited so it's not as oppressive during early and late game.

I get realy anoyed by Evenly Matched. i was playing causual with my friend and he dropped it. at least it was after my battle phase but still, its hella anoying when you finaly manage to pull up a VWXYZ Dragon Catupult Cannon while running my Chazz Princton deck. he showed my his hand after that and he was holding so many other ways to out it, but he wanted it bannished instead..... - Danger!
