My favourite shot was Season 8 Episode 4. The way they brilliantly framed that Starbucks cup on the table, lit perfectly from the candles above. It was such a clever and subtle way to convey to the audience that Dany developed a caffeine addiction which paid off when she later burned down King's Landing because she forgot to have her morning coffee and got cranky.

Imo the best shot is Theon burning his letter to Rob. The implications that propel Theon's story to the betrayal of the family that took him in is just absolutely stunning from a story standpoint, on top of it just being extremely melancholic on subsequent rewatching.

@@raymondsims7042honey, a 6 corse meal with a bowl of cold poop with whipped cream for dessert is an insult . Especially when all the food was amazing. You just start automatically eat the dessert and after a few bites you realize it’s 💩 😢 that is what this entire show is. And with details like Starbucks cups and Christian crosses on buildings in the last season, we were surely served a pretty bowl of poop as a finale. And I’m totally with the “ending”. Danny goes crazy and Cersei being the final boss, ok fine. Make it work with great writing not rushed with stupid storylines and subversions. And Dan and Dave put those actors in therapy after the what they did to them. There are no more good aspects of this project. @@blackleague212 haha😂Jesus Christ😂I think the ending and last season as a whole are awful but that doesn’t retroactively go back and make the rest of the seasons awful as well. No at it’s peak (and I’ve seen lots of great shows) game of thrones is the best show ever, while the ending does the drop it from being the best show ever it is still one of them imo. No question about it. Game of thrones is the most epic live action show ever put to tv. Brilliant large ensemble of characters, beautiful cinematography, movie level Cgi, great action, brilliant dialogue, politics, scheming, expensive world building, commentary, it’s one of the few shows that’s equal in exploring breadth and depth, tons of memorable and shocking moments etc… come on man one season doesn’t make the show shite. There are so many... Tommen jumping from the window is an obvious top. I'd choose Oberyn's wife saying "don't leave alone in this world" and him confidently replying "never", but you can see a clear sunlight right between them, setting them apart. The honorable mentions portion was amazing. I'd love to see you do a video like that, maybe something like 'The Beauty of Game of Thrones.' Of course, it doesn't have to focus on beauty; it could be about brutality, awe, shock, etc. A short compilation showing the best moments of the show would be incredible. It's also kind of funny how some of the later season shots are truly amazing at times. It doesn't detract from the awful seasons at all, but it's interesting nonetheless that while they chose spectacle over logic, they at least tended to execute the spectacle well. Nonsensical spectacle, but spectacle nonetheless

I appreciate that the majority of this list is focused on what makes the shots impressive on a technical level with respect to filmography conventions and artistic merit, instead of the usual diatribe of pseudo-artistic prattling about the "meaning" of things as if the analyst is privy to some higher knowledge that us mere mortals could not hope to understand without being guided through it. And in those cases were you do feel the need to highlight the significance of what you feel the imagery of a shot is trying to imply, you have the humility to actually phrase it thus - an interpretation. You seem like a rare breed among the TV/Movie analysis channels.

While I still think very highly of the early seasons of Game of Thrones, and don't need every content creator to "trash" it if they talk about it today, I think there is a disservice in praising this series in this way after what happened. It was clear the show entirely shifted focus to dramatic cinematography, music -- all production values -- over cleaning up the story in the worst final seasons. It's possible to have both for a strong series but HBO/show runners chose to "cash out" and being production to the front, and storytelling way way to the back. I say that not just to belabor the "spend more time" but even with the time they had, they butchered it. They wasted so much screen time showing me shots I was supposed to be impressed by, or take some "sublte" cue from with characters that were no longer meaningful because they were acting stupid or inconsistent with anything I believed and cared for. The major reason why the music can still be appreciated in the latter seasons is because music is music and is most easily able to be transported out of the original context it was heard in. But the cinematography/shots to me are vapid. I'm sure Jon Snow facing down the Bolton army made this list -- as I thought "cool shot" when it was live...but I wasn't in the shot because at the core, everything that played out JUST before that scene with Rickon was so jarringly stupid. When I saw the shot I literally had 2 things top of mind: 1) Jon's gonna have plot armor and survive the certain death he's in -- and that did happen. 2) This is clearly not real as the actor would be in serious danger if that many horses were running full speed at him so I was looking for the elements in the shot that indicated so. In general, you can just tell that the people charging aren't really focused on Jon Snow as a person and the lighting feels a bit off -- simply put Jon looks like he's in a different space than the horses and it's a hybrid of lighting and how characters are looking (or not looking) at each other. That's really bad considering my mind went there the first time watching that sequence. That's it; once a fantasy show that takes itself that seriously has me thinking or caring about those things, there's a problem. Contrast with early GoT where the CG for the dragons wasn't that best but I never once cared or thought about how they filmed it.

One of the aspects I think HotD has improved is regarding its female gaze. I'll explain. In GoT, I feel some of the best shot were clearly intended to appeal to a male audience; hence, the amount of well filmed battles. However, I felt it dropped the ball of quality when framing some female characters, as in the pivotal points of characters such as Sansa, Cersei, Margaery or Ollena. HotD, however, has given much more room to feminine characters -mainly Alicent and Helaena-, with shots that have nothing to envy to the rest of the cast. I'm thinking of the whole trip of Alicent to the forest, which was filmed with so grace and beauty... The shot were she appears between two columns in episode six is also great. And what's left to say about the funeral through the streets? The crops in the air, the veils deforming their faces... I was amazed many times and, honestly, disappointed that the feminine characters of GoT never received such treatment.
