As an amateur boxer, I got to workout at the Kronk Gym in downtown Detroit. Thomas "Hitman" Hearns was there and taking a little light sparring. I was sparring trying to learn something. Mr. Hearns asked if I'd like let him give me a few pointers. Are you kidding? Please, just don't hurt me. It happened. Mr. Hearns accidentally caught me with a right hand that broke the sound barrier. Well, I heard the BOOM. I went down faster than my knees could buckle and Tommy Hearns only grazed my jaw. Grazed me. I was a big, strong guy too. 6'3"and 220 pounds, I was dead lifting 550 pounds to work out with, benching 300 pounds, and was in super shape. Tommy Hearns taught me that I had a jaw made from lollipops! 😅

Your number 2 should be number 1. The Jackson vs Graham knockout is unusual because it completely turned off Graham's brain like an epileptic seizure. Please note that Graham fell backwards onto his back. Boxers virtually never fall backwards when knocked out, they collapse forward. It should also be noted that it was only one punch and Graham was clearly winning the fight and out boxing Jackson before the knockout. Graham was warned repeatedly of Jackson's extremely dangerous power but he was starting to disregard his corner. Julian and Herol are both top notch quality people but in this fight it was not a knockout/concussion but a brain going into seizure for Herol. Can anybody find another boxer who unfortunately collapsed backwards like a tree falling in the forest? This is the sign of a brain turning off like a light switch.
@charleslowe5225 ай бұрын
I agree, but I can also understand why the Hitman's KO over Duran gets the number one spot. Duran was boxings ultimate tough guy, despite quitting against SRL. Duran was just coming off a very close decision loss to Marvin Hagler and Duran was also the first fighter to take Hagler the full 15 round distance without ever being hurt throughout the entire fight. Duran had only suffered two flash knockdowns earlier in his career against Esteban DeJesus. The first was in their non-title fight in the first round and then in the rematch in the first round. SRL, Pipino Cuevas nor Hagler wasn't able to put any hurt on Duran and for Tommy to score an epic one punch KO that would face plant Duran is what gets Hearns KO of Duran first place, but my argument as to why Jackson vs Graham should be first, Hearns had already had Duran down and hurt a couple of times. Graham was in complete control and had not been touched by Jackson and Graham could've exerted a little more caution and not followed Jackson, the fight would've probably been stopped due to the damage of Jackson's eye. Graham got a little too overconfident and to you and I earned a spot of number one on the greatest KO's list.
@eranliber59932 ай бұрын
You say true things. But take under consideration a few things - graham was less durable than duran. Much less. And relying solely on the outcome after the punch landed for me is less the issue because i dont see why its a decisive factor - after all - rjj's ko on serwano should be your no2. On the other hand - the fact that most men fall this way or the other doest fall into a factor for me because its predicated on many things like their stand and how did they sfift their weight when they were tagged. Again, i do not tend to think that james toney's ko of charles williams should be on the top 3 - but by your logic - if a man falls forward its devestating enough to be on the very top. Overall, even of i feel jackson was a bigger puncher, i think no1 here is very deserving.

Seeing Burt Cooper brought up some crazy memories for me. In 1996 I was working and living at a resort in the Catskills . Bruce Seldon had his training camp for his Tyson fight there. Bert was there as a sparring partner to emulate Tyson's style. I was in my early 20s and a huge boxing fan back then too, so I was pumped watching the sparring and hanging out with the fighters. I knew who Cooper was from his fight with Holyfield and Foreman. But I didn't know about his documented struggles with addiction at the time. Long story short me and couple buddies who worked there took Cooper out drinking and all hell broke loose after that. The next morning the trainer was at breakfast asking if anybody knew where Bert was. He was missing, which was strange because he didn't know anyone in this tiny town of Monticello, NY. That's when I found out he wasn't getting paid for sparring till the end of the training camp. They didn't want him to have any cash on him and be tempted to go on a binge. Two days later I was opening the shop at 6am and a cab pulled up to the front door. I was there by myself and Bert comes out of the cab looking crazy ,all sweaty and bug eyed. He comes into the shop walks over to me and says "Hey man I gotz to have a hundred dollars". I went right over to register hit no sale and said here you go boss. It think it was about a week before they got him out of there and in treatment or something. He was actually a really good guy and had some great story's. It's a shame the demons got the best him. The story he told me about the Foreman fight was this huge conspiracy. He said Foremans team paid a couple girls to distract him before the fight. He said the night before the fight he was up all night partying. He was a true warrior and was just too small to be a Heavyweight in my opinion. RIP Coop
