My condolences. I was a teen in the 90s and my dad and I would watch every fight we could watch from USA Tuesday Night Fights to the first HBO Boxing After Dark with Barrera vs McKinney. I would rather stay home and watch fights with my dad then go out with my friends. Great memories. He also passed away summer of 2018. Those were good times, I miss him dearly. Love you dad.

@@marcoslaureano5562 ahhh Tuesday night fights and Ballroom Boxing was the shit. High impact bouts on regular tv. We didnt always need ppv back then. It brings tears to my eyes know how much we enjoyed watching those fights with family and friends. I was only able to stay up late on a school night because I was watching either wrestling or boxing with my grams and uncle. Mom was strict, but on those nights, she gave me breathing room, as long as I didnt complain the next morning 😂😂😂🥊🥊🍻

Man, so was I! My friends and I stayed broke. We'd pool our money and watch every PPV that we could afford. I remember watching Douglas KO Tyson and Mercer almost kill (figuratively) Morrison. That was when Lennox had short hair and Evander actually had hair. Pro heavyweight boxing during that era was exciting and memorable.

The McCall Lewis rematch was so messed up. As someone who turned 15 in 1990 I watched a lotall of these fights with my dad, at home or in the pub. Yeah I was born in 76. I think every generation feels that way , but it's always hard to see what's so great about other eras..I loved the 80s and I swear right around early 2000s the world went to shit ! Total shit. I was recently at work and some younger guys were talking about how awesome the 2000s were and how horrible the 2010s were ?! They talked about 2000s like I talked about the 80s and early 90s , it was just a surprise..I think the subject was pro wrestling then music and I interrupted to tell them "no you didn't imagine anything music got even worse and yeah wrestling peaked early 2000s then went south real fast" and to my surprise they actually loved 2000s music ? Im like "what music" and they say hip hop and metal mostly ? Lol I'm telling them 90s was a hip hop goldmine 1000% better than anything since and they looked at me like I was nuts! Lol it actually gave me a complex as I felt like the "old guy" all the sudden. I'm like "2-Pac, Biggie, DMX, Wu-Tang, Jay-Z (even though he peaked in 2000s) , Nas literally tons of great rappers and they give me this dumb look and one guy says "DMX sucks....and Biggie wasn't that good...neither was 2-Pac" and I paused for a sec about to unload on this dude and it occurred to me that I had the exact same debates with my dad growing up. I remember telling him "Metallica is better than Zeppelin" and also that "Pink Floyd sucks dad. No one listens to them anymore" lol I meant it too..but thank God I eventually gave them a real chance instead of just skimming thru some albums since it wasn't my "cup of tea" at the time ! Bro I even remember having an argument with my dad *(this is really bad)* cause I actually told him *Hulk Hogan could beat Mike Tyson in a real fight* ??? Lol I always thought as you got older you become more narrow minded but for me I *still* try to find good music with little luck. They'll grow up and talk about how great the 2010s-2020s were "remember we all had off for almost 1 1/2 years !! No school ! We all thought after Christmas break back to the grind like normal ?!! Who tf would've guessed that we wouldn't be back in school until the following Sept like 20 months later!!" Lol

The 90s were great for the HW division, but I remember watching Ali, Frazier, and Foreman as a kid. Maybe because I was young, but those are 3 of the greatest and fought at the same time period. The 70s will always be my golden years 👍

I think the 70’s were the golden age too. The 80’s were the most exciting. If you weren’t alive for the rise of tyson, its hard to understand what a sensation he was. 90’s were amazing. The 2000’s were the “Boring Age”. The Klitchko’s were like sleeping pills, I loved seeing Fury beat Vlad and end the most boring reign in boxing history. Jab and hold, jab and hold, for almost a decade. The last 5 years have been great though. Im glad Fury also showed how outclassed Wilder is if you make him box too! Wilder has always been extremely overrated, he fought tomato cans for most of his career. I think any true boxer, like Joshua or Fury, could beat him easily now that its been shown just how clumsy and how little real skill Wilder has. He’s got a right hand, thats it.

8:32 - "Mercer's menacing display of power" during the Morrison fight was just as much a staggering display of referee incompetence. Tommy was caught on the chin by a left and knocked completely unconscious before being forced to endure NINE full-on, tee-off face punches before he was given the courtesy of a stoppage. An eight count after the first or second one is the norm and would have been nice. Coincidentally, Tommy was a very courteous boxer in this regard. As far as I remember, when he saw an opponent take a punch and go limp he was very quick to stop the attack and retreat to his corner.

Dude this was absolutely brilliant. It's refreshing to finally a have a truthful, unbiased video highlighting boxing greats. Most Videos I've seen have had the narrator displaying favoritism towards a boxer even when the praise wasn't deserved. This is a great great great video. The 90's heavyweight division was like one huge "What If?" What if Tyson and Ibeabuchi never went to prison? What if Bowe never left boxing to join the military? What if Morrison never tested positive for HIV? What if Douglas would have stayed in shape? What if Tyson never bit Holyfield's ear?

What if Bowe had stayed in decent shape more like. Big Daddy was barely bigger than Holyfield in their first fight, but has the same physique as Foreman towards the end, and Foreman was in his 40s, not his 20s.

It's a Shame that Bowe beat Holyfield, because in 1993 would have seen a Holyfield v Lewis fight, but Bowe won and refused to ever face lewis. Massive Shame.

You mentioned Tyson, Lewis and Holyfield but failed to mention Bowe who on his best night could give any heavyweight in history all they could handle. Funny you would use Frazier as the measuring cuz I believe all 4 of those guys beat Frazier. He woulda been too small for Bowe and Lewis, Holy could possibly outwork him tho that woulda been a war, and he'd be fighting fire with fire against Tyson. Also you overrate Foreman's performance at that stage. Yes he overachieved in his fight against Holy, but he still got pummeled. Then he was outclassed by Tommy Morrison of all people who wasn't known for his boxing skill. Then he's beaten from pillar to post by Moorer for 9 1/2 rounds until he was able to land that right hand cuz Moorer was dumb enough to stand right in front of him. Then he gets a gift against Axel Schultz, goes the distance with Crawford Grimsley???? I mean it says alot that while he was lineal champion, ring magazine had him rated the 6th best heavyweight in '95.

No twitter talk, no wrong side of the street talk, no easy route talk, no waiting in line for one fighter for a payday, no social media clout, no drama, and so on…..we had something to look forward to back then. Golota had alot of problems actually. He did time in prison in his home country for killing someone in a street fight. I remember when he quit against Mike Tyson. I was so pissed off because i ordered the pay per view, it was supposed to be an amazing fight. Instead, Tyson hit him so hard that he broke his orbital bone in his face, causing Golota to quit in the third round i think. Lou Duva was screaming in his face "get the fuck back out there, you'll disgrace yourself", trying to shove his mouth piece back in. Tyson was furious, the audience was furious, throwing beer and food at him as he left the ring. His career never really recovered after that. Pretty sad

@@calebcompton9120 -- I'm no Golota fan, but fighting with a broken orbital bone is the same as fighting with one eye. Golota's injuries from that fight were more extensive than just the orbital bone--he was hospitalized with a concussion, and a neck injury too. If you're going to "quit" in a fight, that would be time to do it.
