TOP 5th NC: MSA

According to IATF requirements statistical studies must be done for each type of measuring and test equipment indicated in the control plan. Keyword here is “each type.” For each type of equipment indicated in control plan the organization shall demonstrate some form of measurement system analyses.
There is also a misconception of gauge R&R versus MSA study. Gauge R&R is only one of the techniques for conducting MSA study concentrated on repeatability and reproducibility. But for equipment we can do also
-bias study,
-linearity,
-stability
and even there will not be a necessity to do gauge R&R study. There is no requirement there must be gauge R&R study done, the requirement is there has to be MSA study for each type of the equipment.
The requirement is also to understand what MSA study consist of to be capable to understand it. Here if we would do a problem solving for this close, we could refer to the competences in MSA analysis of the personnel.
We also must remember about the approach to MSA study indicated by the customer. There are free approaches to conduct MSA studies issued by AIAG, VDA and ANFIA. Let's remember that acceptance criteria for MSA study are not included in IATF they will be included in the manuals from those three organizations, or any other additional document issued by the customer or by organization itself.
