I genuinely loved The Heart Principle. I feel like so many romance novels focus exclusively on male trauma, so much so that "Damaged Hero" is an actual trope, it was nice for once to see a book focus on female trauma, and actually show the male lead support her through it. It was an A+ romance for me.

Happy Holidays!! The heart principle is one of my fav books! Sad to hear you didn't like it but I understand what you mean, it was mainly focused on Anna's struggles with her autism diagnosis, therefore, it lacked a little in the romance department. It was also very gloomy and sad, totally different from the first 2 books but still I loved it and the characters sooo much!

Duke, Actually by Jennifer Holliday. I liked A Princess for Christmas well enough and was so excited to see Max and Dani together that I pre-ordered the book. Long story short: the book is proof of the value of show, don't tell. There was so much conveyed by telling and so much skimming and finding out stuff after the fact that I only became further and further divested from the central relationship.

I liked Dreaming of You because the heroine saved the hero and she was a writer. I also liked how the hero’s baggage was dealt with. Was it as good as a Hathaway, Wallflower, or Ravenels book? No, but I did like the breadcrumbs, mainly meeting Evie’s dad in it.

I had quite a few disappointing reads this year, which were either from authors I had read before and loved or were books that sounded right up my alley and fell flat: - The Project by Courtney Summers - Kim-Jiyoung, Born 1982 by Cho Nam-Joo - Legendborn by Tracy Deonn - The Devil and the Heiress by Harper St. George - Splendor by Anna Godberson (and this was a reread too, rip) - Bunny by Mona Awad - The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling - Velvet Was the Night by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

A romance I was very disappointed by was Dangerous Temptation by Giana Darling. I discovered her this year and I fell in love with her stories, the Anti Heroes In Love-Duet and the Fallen Men series were two series I really enjoyed the heck out of. However, her newest release was not it for me. I received an ARC and was so incredibly hyped for it and I ended up pretty much hating everything about it. Very sad about that :(

Most disappointing reads: -Punk 57….um no one finds it weird that this adult author is writing HIGH SCHOOLERS?!! in such a sexual manner. Lowkey it was weird. Did not connect with the main heroine. I hated her. I have simpathy for people who feel that they can’t be themselves but she was a literal bully (I DNF’d the book before I got to her redemption but I skimmed and still not a fan). Misha is fine, I’m choosing to overlook his disrespectful language towards Ryen because she was doing some really messed up stuff. -The Hating Game: Say it with me yall. AVERAGE. There was nothing special about this story at all. The main reason our hero is an a-hole isn’t really all that justifiable to me. Our main heroine bores me. There was just nothing that I loved about this. The guy was a butt and the girl was boring and what little we did get to know about her was never explored. Honestly I liked The Spanish Love Deception better 😭😭 sorry guys

The Immortalists felt too impersonal to me, in the sense that there was a clear disconnect between my thoughts (and feelings) and the MC's. I tried, I really did, but I could not muster up the dejection you'd expect to feel for MC's that end up dying (except for maybe Simon). For something that was supposed to be "deeply moving" this left me feeling more unsettled than anything.

I think Bully by Penelope Douglas was a disappointment for me ( although I liked Tryst Six Venom 😅 ) this year, even though I enjoyed it while reading it. I feel like the hero didn't grovel enough for his bullying. Then again, I guess it's common with many bully romances. But I thought the next book, Until You from Jared's pov was better.
@haleythomas58543 жыл бұрын
The Immoralists sounds like it had such promise. A shame the execution was lacking and the representation was not so good. I also read The Heart Principle. I liked it but more for the heroine’s journey than the romance and it was my least favorite of Hoang’s books.

Unfortunately... I feel like Cassie Clare may possibly need some personal rest & recreation time; but I suspect she's maybe pretty locked down in those deadlines right now, and her work/writing may be suffering just a titch for it.. Of course, I haven't gotten to the 'Chain of' books yet though, myself-I'm currently reading 'Queen of Air and Darkness' still. But through QoAaD and the book before it especially, as much as I have still enjoyed many parts of them, there have also been other parts where I feel as if I can really feel the author kind of struggling a little. Like, in an outside of just the story or the writing itself kind of way, which I think is perhaps maybe bleeding into the story/writing/etc. a bit and affecting it or how its turned out somewhat. I mean, I have no idea! Maybe I'm just wildly off-base here-but, for whatever reasons, that's just the sense/impression that I have gotten at some points.😶😅😅😅 🤔🤷♀️🤷♀️ And I don't intend that in a mean-spirited way at all. Everyone goes through shite sometimes, right; and it's natural for that to make it more difficult to keep working through it or to maintain the same level of enjoyment or ingenuity or whatever in it all of the time, sometimes. But, nonetheless, she is still an author whose writing is very near and dear to me and that I enjoy very much - and we'll see how I do or don't actually end up feeling about the _Chain of_ book, myself. Once I do eventually get there!! 😅😅😁🙂 Loll ^^ Sorry! Rambling!! ONWARD = to day 26, I go!!!!!

Chain of Iron was disappointing for me as well, which is honestly shocking because TLH is the most excited I’ve been over a series in years. TID is my favourite trilogy ever, so as soon as she announced TLH I was so excited, but CoI let me down. I think the way I feel about the series overall will depend on how Chain of Thorns goes. I have faith in Cassandra Clare because she does stick the landing with her finales, so we’ll see. I feel the same as you, she’s recycling plots and conflicts at this point and it’s getting tiresome. Miscommunication and misunderstandings are the root of all pretty much all of the conflicts in her books. The ending rather than making me sad or heartbroken just made me angry. I didn’t hate the book or anything, there was lots I did like, it was still a 3 star read, but it was definitely disappointing to me. I’m sorry you didn’t like Dreaming of You, I read it earlier this year and liked it. I read Suddenly You by LK this year and *hated* it. The consent issues in that book were godawful. And yet, Married by Morning and Love in the Afternoon by her were both 5 stars. She’s mostly a hit for me, but does have some WTFs as well 😂

The Midnight Library was a disappointing one for me, it was so hyped but I found it to be pretty basic. Hi! I just wanted to say that it felt a little hypocritical to say that "you're glad people liked the books you didnt" and then making fun of fans of Addie Larue because it's "asthetic". As a fan of Addie Larue I can say I like the book because of the message and how the overall story made me feel and the look at mental health that she throws in as well and it made me feel very upset when you said that. I hope I'm not coming off as rude but, I would've rather had you say the book was bad and terrible than making fun of the fans of the book.
