Dos Santos II .... years down the line and still only ever performed in competition by its creator, Diane dos Santos herself. The biggest inspiration for Rebeca Andrade growing up, that seed flourished into the best gymnast in the world today. The power of little seeds in sport. MESMERISING.

I can't believe how a triple twist forward is valued F one tenth higher than the triple twist backward.

Liliya Podkopaeva is one of my favorite gymnasts. And her front tumbling is spectacular because she does more than one front handspring in a row.

I enjoy that too. I believe the reason being was that according to the code back then a gymnast had to perform three connecting elements for it to count as a pass

Indeed. Her skill still looks so cool today, though I believe the younger of the Moors sisters is the only one in recent times to perform it.

Brenna Dowell’s front handspring, double pike somersault is awesome 👏 to watch. She performed this so well, so solidly. When Brenna did NCAA at OU, I was pleased to see this in person at home OU gymnastics meets!

I think most forward skills have a too small difficulty value for many gymnasts to even try it

At 1:31, what is that arm position called? It's gorgeous. I've only seen like 2 gymnast ever use that position. Most everyone uses the wrapped arms or bent elbows in.

Not sure what the technical term is, but I've noticed this twisting position is used a lot in diving.

Can we fully call Arabian skills front tumbling considering the acceleration happens from backward tumbling and the half turn is what starts the forward moment. For me a double Arabian piked is out rated by double pike front as you're initiating the Salto from forward tumbling which is very difficult as you need very high lift from your handspring or the punch to land on your feet and same for tucked Arabian and tucked double front.

Favourite: Arabian double layout, with technique of Jake Dalton. And god, how vastly undervalued twisting elements in WAG are. What idiotic panel would value forward triple twist an F!

The Oliveira is undervalued, like all forward tumbling. Should be a G at least. Dos Santos II should be on par with the Biles II; I think the latter is over-valued and both should be worth I. The Maldonado is ridiculously undervalued, like all twisting elements. Can you believe that if a woman was to perform the quadruple back twist - something never yet achieved - it would likely only score a G: 0.1 *lower* than the ubiquitous Silivas. Back tumbling is absurdly overvalued, and the Silivas is a prime example. It is so common it should be downgraded to a G, as should the Chuso. Moors should be H. They had to put the triple double tuck as a J because the Silivas is already an H, and they had to leave room in the middle for a 2.5 twisting back tuck. Talking of Simone Biles, she owes part of her dominance to the overvaluing of back tumbling. She rarely did any forward tumbling or difficult pure twisting. Not to take away from her talent because she has outstanding power and very reliable execution, but she is very lucky that her natural abilities aligned with the contemporaneous CoPs. I really hope future CoPs value front and twisting tumbling fairly and evenly to stop back tumblers being favoured.

Even though they were not “named” skills (I don’t think), Proudonova’s double front on floor and Karpenko’s double front layout were pretty boss in the late 90s

Disagree that the Dos Santo's is a forward skill. It finishes forward but is 100 a backward skill. Any tumbler would agree. You can block it off a roundoff, which is why true front skils are more difficult.

The Arabians are forwards skills, but also more easy to gymnast to performed it.
@bojohns77
@bojohns77 Жыл бұрын
Arabians meet the requirement for both forward and backward skills in the code. It is a backward takeoff with a half twist, then a front Salto. Because of this it is recognized as both. So the code says yes it is.
@triffus
@triffus Жыл бұрын
@@bojohns77 I understand, but as a purist, and as someone who has done the skills himself, I would never consider it a front skill. I could just barani it down and all of a sudden it’s a back skill. Blind landing to me, does not equate to a forward skill. By that logic a back 2 1/2 twist would be a foward skill.

In women's competition it is considered forward skills. But you are correct, they are arabians.

Majority of the Salto is performed forward as you perform the half twist actually before your go into the salto. As a gymnast I would definitely say it’s a forward skill. Also, a half twist which is considered as backwards tumbling is very different

I’m not sure “Arabian” style skills should be considered “front tumbling” (they aren’t in MAG). The roundoff and backwards entry makes it much easier than the standard frontwards entry. I really love watching the Podkopayeva, especially the way Lilia did it with the bounder front handspring preceding it. The next frontwards skill I expect someone to attempt is the double front (piked) half-out. The Arabian version Oliviera is cool, but the front entry version would be way more difficult.
