I honestly think elaztech is the way to go with ned rigs and I've had one bait catch over 40 fish in one day before I needed to replace it. I would recommend buying the heavier wire Z man hooks though because the smaller hooks bend out or the hook keeper breaks with a medium spinning rod, 6 pound line and small bass

Go medium lite, don't set hook hard, just reel down. You can even remove keeper if you are going to glue the head.

lol for once i actually agree with the shameless self plug tho. no other plastics on the market work anywhere close to as well as the zman stuff in my (admittedly small) experience. other baits may have elaztech plastic but not in the same formulation, and it really shows when you stand them up off the bottom.

@@dustinglasier6417 100% agree. Nothing catches them like this specific brand. I usually break off my hook on something before the bait is ever close to done. $5-6 a pack of 8 and they straight up produce. they dont stand up when it hits bottom on pauses and they put rattles in their neds which personally i think is a gimmick and is silly. just buy the trd from zman, googan is a hype brand and tried to make the ned better but they made it worse by adding weight to the bait, its just not good for a fineness fishing.

I have friends who swear they simply don't get the same amount of bites with the elaztech baits as they do from similar sized/shaped baits. Sure they last forever, but they are also a pain to rig and deal with. I think it's a bit hoggish of ZMan to try to make the case that just because they pioneered these elaztech baits (not the technique) that you're not going to succeed to the greatest extent unless you use their elaztech baits. I was into a big school of fish readily eating the shad shape worm on a drop shot, so I figured it was a good time to try the Zman elaztech look alike (kind of) minnow bait in the same green pumpkin, but the fish didn't want it. Your tips were good and that's the power of endorsement videos. When your shirt and hat match, you know what's coming. Almost over the top to make that suggestion - only a portion of the strikes come when its on the bottom, standing up, and no bait, despite their buoyancy, stand up every time they fall. Enough said.

Ok. First of all Zman DID NOT originally come up with the technique. It was Ned Kahde. Hince the NED rig, not Z rig or anything like that. The elaztech material does enhance the technique because of its bouyancy. I even used 4" Rebel ring worms on a 1/16 crappie jig head catching tank or pond bass in Texas when growing up. Same technique using slightly different things. I couldn't afford a bunch of different tackle when growing up. So basically, lighter line, spinning, and fish it slower. Common sense will guide you on the rest of it or at least I hope so. For those who can't afford a bunch of fluorocarbon line, then use about a 6' leader. I used mono without any problems. Fluorocarbon line wasn't a choice until the earlier 2000s for bass fishing.

Great question! Since the Finesse BulletZ are keel weighted, it causes the bait to sit at a 45 degree angle. This makes this hook perfect for finesse creature baits like the TRD CrawZ or TRD BugZ. Also, it's technically the buoyant ElaZtech material that causes the bait to stand up off the bottom, not the actual jighead. As for the wide gap idea...stay tuned!

Just fyi: "The original TRD..." (?) The Ned rig originally used a ZinkerZ cut in half. When more people learned about this 'new' rig, zman then came out with the TRD and made them, pound-for-pound, more expensive than the zinkerz. And 'jig-worm' rigs were used before zman existed.

Try starting with the 1/15th oz. and if you find yourself fishing deeper than 10-15 feet or if you're fishing in heavy current try going a little heavier like a 1/10th or 1/6th oz. jighead. The simplest answer is often the best response, such as the Ned Rig. You cannot deny it's ability to put fish in the boat. Unfortunately the technique is equally boring as it is effective. Zman should incorporate sum rigging points on baits such molding hook points or subtle dots in a neutral color.

I tried Texas rigging the Ned rig... The problem with Elas-Tech is that it "grabs" the hook moreso than normal senko-type baits. A light hookset does not work. The hook does not want to "pop out" of the bait = missed fish. If you're Texas rigging, ditch the Elas-Tech.

Brodie, I've been fishing Z-man baits for about the last 4 years, in all kinds of configurations, Ned rigs, Neko, TX rigs, drop shots, split shot, etc. You can definitely use your outfit, but be sure and loosen the drag so you won't rip the jig out on hookset. The most amazing thing I've found when fishing the Ned rig was that I nearly always SEE the bite before I feel it! Which is why I use a yellow or white braid to 6-10 lb fluoro leader. Caught crappie, bluegill, bass over 6 lbs and pike over 10 lbs on Ned rigs! (Really lucky with the pike). Watch your line and easy on hookset, you'll do great!

The buoyancy on the Z Man elaz tech plastic is inconsistent at best. Fact. Do not believe me? Go buy a pack of identical Zman elaz tech baits from two different retailers and put them in an aquarium. Use whatever line and lead head you choose, just be consistent. Many lay on the bottom similar to a zoom trick worm. Demonstration is this video is on a sand bottom and line is straight above bait. Great sales technique but not realistic unless you are fishing the ned rig vertical. Video fishing. The buoyancy of the Strike King 3X is light years more consistent but has the same issues of dealing with the elaz tech characteristics. I live in the world of marketing and like to call out false advertising when I see it. Can be a good bait for sure, but mainly on initial drop on as small of a head as you can tolerate. You can make that happen with a million similar products. My bait of choice for this finesse technique is the max scent general in the 4 inch size. I take my dremel tool and custom fit high buoyancy floating rubber I buy from Hobby Lobby. Then super glue it to the tapered end of the General. Fish certainly hang on longer (IMO) and around the spawn, that means a lot .The bass are often not trying to eat the bait just get it out of the area and off the bed. Would love to hear your comments as you now have the facts. Zman, Strike King nor Berkley send me free baits and I am not on a pro staff. I have limited time on the water with the demands of my job but when i get time to fish, I want to fish the best product on the market. Customize the Max Scent General and IMO, you will thank me. Not a bitter post for sure, just factual.
@ZManFishingProducts
@ZManFishingProducts 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Brad, we appreciate your honest comments. Couple quick notes: When you say Strike King's 3X is light years ahead of Z-Man's ElaZtech, do you realize that Z-Man makes those baits for Strike King out of ElaZtech then Strike King just repackages them? It's literally the same material. As for the buoyancy inconsistency, we will admit that it can be difficult to regulate exactly how much salt each bait gets. Since the ElaZtech material is so naturally buoyant, we add salt to certain baits (like the Finesse TRD for example) to help them sink better. However, if you find they are sinking too much, you can hold the bait underwater and work it in your hands to release some of the salt content causing the bait to not only become more buoyant, but also become softer in touch which the fish seem to hold onto longer. Not sure what to say about the vertical line in the video. Miles was probably filming this himself with a rod in one hand and a camera in the other. Not the easiest shot to get but we think he did a great job getting the point across. If this video didn't work for you, there are hundreds of other ElaZtech Ned Rig videos out there which show the bait in action. Thanks again for reaching out Brad. Please let us know if you have any other comments or questions.

WHAT LINE IS BEST TO USE MONO FLORO BRAID COPOLYMER
@ryanbernard6550
@ryanbernard6550 4 жыл бұрын
Depends what kind of fishing youre doing and type of pole. I typically run braid on the reel and a floro leader.. Some say you should put a mono backing on bigger reels but i think that was for the days when braid was crazy expensive. I think thats nullifying one of braids best properties. You can put a lot of line on even a small reel. Also it cuts through alot of soft cover pretty well. Floro is just clearer and stiff compared to mono. However you really need to practice, test, and pay attention to your knot tying with these types of line. Special knots need to be used. If you get that down its great!

In the video the guy recommends using super glue to keep lure on the jig head. About 5 years ago I tried to repair a Z man frog with super glue and it dissolved the lure. It was like pouring acid on it. The spot that I put the glue on totally disappeared leaving a hole in the frog. Since that happened I have never used super glue on any elaztech plastics.

Hey Joe, when it comes to super glue, make sure you use the gel kind. Regular super glue can react with the ElaZtech material. Loctite makes a SuperGel which works great with ElaZtech. You only need the smallest dab of SuperGel and you're good to go all day.

I love the ned rig this guy kinda dropped the ball, i feel like he missed some things and kinda lied in a pro-zman skew, giving no credit to the guy ned who created it and overclaiming multiple times how zman created the ned. I feel like power and backbone should have been covered i fish it on a light power feeling WAY more bites. I need a big hookset to set the hook. Same as he says you can fish too heavy of pound test line i think medium is way too heavy for ned rig you literally wont feel half the bites i do on a light. Agreed set hook into backbone of rod,drag should start pulling not much after but it has to be tight enough to set even if you hook fish in the roof of the mouth this video kinda sucked and i love the zman ned rig that guy is kinda trash mixed with catpiss with much respect, this angler poorly carries the zman name, im going to think of this horrible dude every time i think zman now

I love it cause of the durability. That alone makes it a winner for me. Love other baits brands too but the appendages get bit off so easily even by small pan fish sometimes it gets frustrating. Like the rage bug from strike king for example, my lakes have alot of perch. I drag one of thos around on a t rig and i can feel them nipping at it. By the time i retrieving it back to the boat 3 legs are gone before i even get a bass lol. But they can peck at the zman stuff all day dont matter. Since you licence elaztec 3x to strike king you should let them make the rage bug in that material. Or you guys should make somthing like it. I know you guys have the palmetto bug, but the legs dont kick. It would be amazing if you could make something like the bugz you guys have but with kicking legs.

Elaztech did not pioneer the Ned rig. It was pioneered by a man who used his tore up senkos by cutting them in half. Elaztech simply improved upon the technique.

Ned Kehde. We just call it a jig n worm. Yes it works great but next time your going to ned rig try this. Put a nail weight in 1 end and Texas rig the other. Looks just like the Ned except it always stands up and it goes through weeds rocks anything. Been using it on Erie and the Detroit River since the 90s. Awesome bed bait!

Z-Man Fishing TV - you gotta make sure to capitalize on the smaller rivers and streams market--fishing the TRD HogZ (green pumpkin) almost isn't fair on the Shenandoah River for smallies. My father and I have made it our annual summer trip since I was 5 years old (I'll be 41 later this month) and it's changed the game. We've used the Finesse TRD, BugZ, TicklerZ and the CrawZ all killed them. My favorite part, is that is how the durability of these lures has shrunken the amount of gear I need to take out on the canoe, kayak or wading.

I use it on my BFS light/UL setups. Shimano BFS Scorpion on rod 5-12lb. 8x braid and 6x fluor leader, and Shimano BFS Aldebaran on 2-6lb Rod 4x Yo-Zuri Hybrid. I will never debate using baitcasting for light lures anymore. Ned Rigs are amazing, especially Tiny Child Rig. I don't even lose them anymore. no more hang-ups. I catch any Bass 3lb+ just fine.

Yes! Happy to be a big fan of Elaztech. It is, as you mentioned, 'magic' and the extensive product line is superb. Kudos to Z-Man for a well deserved homage to Ned Kehde and his extensive experience in the Finesse fishing genre. As many comments pointed out, the idea of using small pieces or remnants of plastisol has been around a long time. No matter, amazing lures continue to come from the Z-man design team with assistance from veteran anglers like Drew Reese. Agree totally with using medium weight gear and lighter line. 8 lb fluoro or mono seems to work better to resist abrasion in rocks and brush and brings all sizes of fish to hand. Keep up the great work, Don
