I'm doing these now !! blessed that I didn't get a blood clot and that I found Bob and Brad. (just wish I had found Bob and Brad in May). My PT's did not give me exercises post laminectomy and neither did the surgeon. I ended up with a femoral nerve flare-up two months post-surgery, taking prednisone, and am now starting recovery a 2nd time. Following Bob and Brad for my recovery.

Thanks so much for the correct exercises. After my first surgery, I was given a set of wrong exercises that made everything worse. Now after the second surgery, they gave me similar exercises as you are showing here and it's helping a lot. A bad physiotherapist can ruin one's life. I and my family lost 2 years in pain and agony,

All these folks suffering. I had a laminectomy today and couldn't believe the relief I got after years of debilitating pain. I had to stick around the surgery because my ride crapped out and got spanked for trying to get up and to the bathroom by myself I felt so good. Of course then the incision itself started to hurt a bit but I can get up and out of bed without the excruciating pain of the mashed nerves. I don't want to take the oxy they prescribed but really don't feel I need it several times a day as prescribed. Maybe one or two every couple days if I can. Anything is better than the hell I've been in the past several years. Waited until Medicare kicked in.

My advice is do these as soon as you feel comfortable enough after surgery. Wish I had seen this video sooner in my experience. My surgeon left me with “no bending/lifting/twisting until you start therapy in 6 weeks. Walk daily.” That was it. So I followed the no blt’s to the letter. But by the time I got to therapy my muscles were weak and misfiring out of order. Which made my recovery longer and more painful. My therapist said “they didn’t mean don’t move your back at all. They would have put you in traction if they meant that.” How was I supposed to know?! Ugh what an experience. Sorry for anyone who is finding themselves here now. It gets better! And make sure you take care of your emotions during this!

Just had a laminectomy & discectomy today, already home. I am in a lot of pain i also had a leak in the spine (I didn't know until I was in the car, and my husband told me they called him and told him) I can only imagine it was fixed. (I hope). The pain is horrible, the surgery was mainly for the left side, I do/did have most of the pain on the left, but the right side still hurt just not as bad as the left. But now post op my right lower back l3-l4 side is where the really bad pain is atm. I really hope this does the job, I've been on workman's comp for over 18 months, have had nothing but the run around, insurance company canceling the 1st surgery appt, so I could go and get another set of worthless shots in my back, 6 shots and no relief. I have been a bed rat 🐀 for almost 2 years, so I'm really really hope this pain is worth it in the end.

They discovered more neurological tissue in my spine during the surgery, as such I've had a slightly rougher recovery and things pinch occasionally since they had a hard time navigating around it all and things arent sitting right. Good news is I am getting more feeling back in my leg but still extremely limited with how much I can do. Least I am not in as much pain as was, only if something pinches or catches. I miss running but not sure if I will ever do it again, when the nerves pinch the pain makes my legs go out

Because I received no training or warning from first doctor except for initial post-op, and was told after 6 weeks to "ease back into life" without restrictions I overdid it and had to have a second surgery. My second doctor was better and I've been following his and these exercises and they've helped a lot. It's now been 5 months and wanted to see if you had any advice going forward as to what I should still NOT do, especially since I had two surgeries in a row. I want to get back into salsa/2-step dancing but that involves a lot of twisting and hip work. Should I continue to wait and if so how long? How will I know when my body is fully healed? (I still have over-sensitive nerves in calf and left foot). Just looking for a general guideline. Thanks.

I know I'm late to this post, but I had an emergency laminectomy 3 years ago when my L5-S1 completely herniated from my spine. It took me about 2 years to recover as much as I could naturally, and I still have some issues with back pain and movement, even to this day, so I only do as much activity as I can tolerate, even when doing something simple, like cleaning my home. I would suggest walking/elliptical/exercise bike exercises, etc, but nothing involving twisting your core. I also do not lift above 10-20 pounds, even after all this time, and be very careful bending over when doing daily activities - use your knees and not your back. These where suggestions from my orthopedic surgeon, so hopefully they help you. My dr. has also told me that back surgery is a slippery slope. We patients have to be extremely careful, because once you have surgery, it's more likely that we will have to have surgery again if we're not careful. So far, I've avoided a 2nd surgery, and I'm hoping it stays that way. Good luck to you.

So I had two surgeries. First one failed and re-herniated and pinched the same dang nerves near immediately. Went to top orthopedic surgeon in Philly. Second surgery fixed it, but without wearing this "championship belt" back brace, mobility is limited, still pain and I feel there's a void in my spine. I don't feel any of these symptoms while wearing the backbrace. How long post surgery until I can start doing some of these exercises? I'd have to do with the belt on or the pain would be too much. I'm about 6 weeks out from the 2nd surgery (10/22/21 & 12/22/21).

@@briancrink Yes! Sorry on my other account right now, but yes. The level of pain I had, even with 5 pain pills a day + valium + gabipentin + the surgery - still major pain and lack of mobility. It wasn't right. It was a gut feeling and he sent me for a second MRI that day (this doctor moves quick) and I was getting the 2nd operation 1 week later. Results between the two surgeries were night and day.

@@briancrink thank you. Today is now 1st day without backbrace in nearly 4 months. My back so sooooo tired right now. My right side is still herniated, but no pinched nerves, so Im told to tolerate it until something gets pinched and then I will have to do the fusion. I would say get an MRI for confirmation. The gabipentin I don't have an opinion on as I was on a massive load of steroids also. With steroids I felt much better. 2 days after I stopped pain returned with a vengeance. The gabipentin made me gain 40 pounds. Right now, I have pain in my hips yet but not into the leg. Current plan is to start PT in up to 4 weeks from now and get an injection for the remaining pain in the meantime. They say 8 months til I am back to par. Get a 2nd opinion and find some doc that will send you for an MRI to confirm/reconfirm. My doc ended up re-doing the surgery for free. He charged the insurance company but it was fully discounted by them and I owed nothing. That could be partly why he is pushing back. A "re-do" with your insurance means he does it for free. It could also be phantom pain as in the nerve just hasn't decompressed yet. Could also be nerve damage in which you can get tests for that also. Could be a combo, but a new MRI would be the first step. I know I gave you a ton of possibilities and could of's, but seriously demand an MRI. Considering your surgery and your condition insurance should easily approve that. Best of luck bud. David@sharkbitebiz.com if you want to chat offline.

I looked at your videos to see if I could find the answer to this question: How should you sleep after Laminectomy/Discectomy? I've had the surgery (L3, L4, L5 rt) twice in a 90 day period. I have no idea what went wrong after the first one, but a week later I was in twice the pain than before. I had the second one 21 days ago and the results seem promising. I've been sleeping on my back, which is not my normal position. The last couple of mornings, I've woken up on my side and I'm worried I'm going to damage my back again. I don't see my surgeon for two more weeks and expect a PT script at that appointment. Any advice?

You should put pillows on the side of you so you don't roll over while you sleep

How long after surgery should these type of exercises be performed?
