This is such good advice! If you want to use a wise proverb to help steer someone in a good direction, you can avoid insulting their intelligence by letting them fill in the blanks for themselves. You give them credit for knowing better, but maybe just needing a little support from a friend.

Confucius, 553~479 B.C.E, who is traditionally considered the paragon of Chinese sages, teachers' ancestor. He once said, "Don't do unto others what you wouldn't have them do unto you." In Chinese"己所不欲,勿施於人". "The grass is always greener on the other side", There are some similar proverbs, one is like "Other people's wives are always more beautiful." In Chinese "別人的老婆總是比較美". Those are what I can recall by now. Thank you so much Vanessa, you are the best! I love your videos.

Hi Vanessa, in France we have the same proverbs : - No news is good news, - Better late than never, - The grass is always greener on the other side (we say The grass is always greener elsewhere), - Do unto others what you would have them do unto you (but we say in negative way : don't do to somebody else what you don't want that he do it to you, I prefer the french version ;-). And I think a lot of french people knows too the english proverb : No Pain, No Gain (and we use it too in english) Bye

Russian: 1. Actions speak louder than words. They’re judging a person by his deeds (Almost the same, but the part about "his words" is just implied). - In the context about the son, the mom and the trash: Больше дела, меньше слов! (Do) More actions, (speak) less words! 2. Honesty is the best policy - - In general: Честность всего дороже - Honesty is the most cherished thing. - In the context about stealing office supplies: Шила в мешке не утаишь. You can’t hide an awl in the sack. 3. No news is good news - Если нет новостей, то это уже хорошая новость. If there’s no news it’s already a good news. (the same) 4. Better late than never - Лучше поздно, чем никогда (the same) 5. Slow and steady wins the race. The quieter you go, the farther you will be. - In the context about the mess: Медленно, но верно. Slowly, but steadily. 6. The grass is always greener on the other side. It is better there where we are not. - In the context about the food in the restaurant (jealousy thing) : a) A loaf is bigger in someone else’s hands, but as soon as it comes into our hands, it seems smaller. b) The slice is bigger in someone’s other hands. c) There’s always more fish in someone else’s boat. d) Apples are sweeter in someone else’s garden. (actually, there are a lot of them…) 7. Do unto others what you would have them do unto you - Поступай с другими так, как хочешь, чтобы другие поступали с тобой. (the same)

Very useful proverbs: 1. Honesty is the best policy. 2. No news is good news. 3. Better late than never. 4. Actions speak louder than words. 5. The grass is always greener on the other side. 6. Slow and steady wins the race. 7. Do unto others.

Great video!! I'm Brazilian and there are some of those proverbs in Portuguese as well. Here you go: Actions speak louder than words - Falar é fácil, difícil é fazer; Better late than never - Antes tarde do que nunca; Slow and steady - Devagar e sempre; The grass is always greener on the other side - A grama do vizinho é sempre mais verde (it is about grass as well hahaha); Do unto others what you would have them do unto you - Não faça com os outros o que você não gostaria que fizessem com você.

Vanessa, can we use the proverb better late than never for any action we do? or is it just used for arriving somewhere

In France there are very similar proverbs: Actions speak louder than words is « Les actes sont meilleurs que les paroles » No news is a good news is « Pas de nouvelles, bonne nouvelle » Better late than never is « mieux vaut tard que jamais » Slow and steady is « Rien ne sert de courir il faut partir à point » (which is from a French writter who is La Fontaine) Do unto other what you would have them to do unto you, which is more like don’t do to the others what you would not like them to do unto you « Ne fais pas aux autres ce que tu n’aimerais pas que l’on te fasse » Thank you for your video by the way
