0:32 That generation of Passat might look boring now, but when it was first launched it was a small revolution, with clean, solid design inspired by Bauhaus, which gave it an air of confident integrity and robustness. It was successful enough that everyone tried to copy it, and moved from the swoopy sedans of the nineties to the round arches, straight belt line and geometric shapes of the noughties (think Opel Vectra, Ford Mondeo...)

I know your patreons are the only ones who get to suggest the next video but i have an idea; "Top 7 cars that NEED to be in a movie/TV show." Whenever a movie or show features a car, that car will be one of many things people will remember. Fast and Furious has the Supra, Dukes of Hazard has the Charger, Knight Rider has the Firebird, Back to the Future has the DeLorean, etc. Here are my examples; 1. Rezvani Vengeance: I can totally see this armoured SUV being used in a show about high tech agents fighting crime. Imagine you and the boys successfully robbed a bank and in your rearview mirror, that hunk of an armoured vehicle starts chasing you down. 2. Nissan 300ZX (Z31) or Buick Reatta: Spy movies always have their spies drive Astons, Audis, Mercs, etc. The 300ZX is perfect for a movie with a retro sci-fi aesthetic, it's got the tech so there isn't much need to modify it. And it could add a bit of uniqueness, when have you ever seen a spy drive a JAPANESE car of all things? The Reatta is also a good choice if the spy is looking for something with more Americana

Glad to see the S10e getting a little love. Proud to own 3% of the fleet. While the original PbA batteries could only last about 10k miles, in 98 you could option one with NiMH batteries, which lasted essentially forever as long as you used them gently and regularly. Unfortunately, these are even rarer, though for a time directly after the culling of the EV market there was a small outfit called EV Bones which took the NiMH batteries from the EV1s that were being crushed at the time and fitted them into S10s. They serviced 50 of them, though some early ones (like one of my trucks) simply used the PbA batteries from the EV1s. I know a few people who have gotten old NiMH cars (mostly RAV4 EVs) and reconditioned the batteries back to about 80% capacity even after sitting for a long period of time, something that's simply impossible to do with our current lithium based chemistries. The death of NiMH is probably one of the greatest losses to the EV. A few of us S10e guys have gotten a set of LiFePo4 batteries to bring our trucks up to speed so to speak. It's a little trickier than a standard battery swap since PbA and LiFePo4 are so vastly different, and you can't simply change out the charger since all of the systems of the EV1 power electronics system are so integrated and dispersed throughout the car. Basically, you have to be able to stop charging to the batteries prematurely while still convincing the truck that it's still charging the batteries. I'm not sure where you got the figure for 16 hours to charge for 35 miles of range from. The S10es never came with the 1.8kw emergency charger that the EV1s had, and instead would have used the standard 6.6kw charger. For the standard 17kwh PbA pack that would have only been about 3 hours to charge for 35 miles of city driving, and 55 miles of highway driving. Still not great, but certainly not the worst. With the NiMH pack it would take about 6-8 hours for close to 100 miles of highway driving, which I believe to be a perfectly useable range. It seems to me like you could have been using some made up figure for charging a NiMH pack with the 1.8kw emergency charger, which would have been impossible anyway. They actually blocked the NiMH vehicles from using said charger because it was simply so abysmally slow, and assuming a NiMH pack this'd get you about 16 hours of charging for ~80 miles of range. Unfortunately there's a lot of misinformation and confusion out there about these vehicles, and this is only getting exemplified as they come more and more into mainstream culture. Probably the only place to get decent information is from the Beata Collection or from actual owners. That's just unfortunately the way it goes with cars this obscure, I've made my share of mistakes with them in the past for sure.

The biggest reason being that probably no one knows about them. The Nissan Silvia S15 has a few rare models as well that have flown under the radar. Nissan’s tuning arm Autech, made 3 models, all of which don’t have many examples made, much less still around. The Silvia Style-A was available as the Spec S and the Spec R, with an auto or manual, as well as a choice of a turbo or non-turbo SR20. It was a styling package that was modeled after the Ferrari 456. A second release of the Style A was based on the non turbo Spec S trim, however Autech reworked the engine to 200hp (up from 160hp) with a higher compression ratio, more aggressive cams, and a larger diameter intake and exhaust, as well as an Autech tuned ECU, and Autech specific chassis and suspension upgrades. Additionally all the other features and the 6 speed manual that were normally found in the Spec-R were included. Only 54 Autech Silvia Style A’s were made, 43 were non turbo and only 11 were turbocharged. The regular Silvia Autech Version is for better choice of words a non turbo Spec R. It has all the features of that trim however it has a lighter flywheel, different seat trim with red stitching, a higher final drive ratio of 4.083 (vs the 3.692 in the regular Spec R), and has a 300 rpm higher redline at 7500 rpm. Ironically the Silvia Autech Version was the same price as the turbocharged Silvia Spec R. Not many of these were made, with production capped at 1,875. The second rarest trim but probably the rarest model S15 was known as the Silvia Varietta is a hardtop convertible version of the Silvia. They were only available in the Spec S trim, which came with the non turbo SR20DE, with the choice of a 5 speed manual or a 4 speed auto with an overdrive. The roof is fully retractable and has heated leather seats. Only 1,143 convertible S15’s were made. For reference 41,954 coupes were made.
