In organic growing I do like to cover my soil with something mulch wood chips straw cardboard would work air still will be able to flow but to keep that top layer damp for those feeder roots come to top and go crazy the worms like it as well but if your going that far into gardening you’ll have an eye to look for unwanted things mold/ect

I use straw but there is nothing wrong with using cardboard as a mulch layer.. atleast in a no till setup.
@MattyBlooms2 ай бұрын
Cardboard on top is promote the feeder roots to climb to the top of the soil. That way when you topdress they are primed and ready right at the top of the soil, throw some casting and fertilizer on the top and cover it back up simple way to amend

I just bend them over. Tie them horizontal to the tote they grow in. Trying to get as much canopy with least amount of stems. I have a short grow area. I have larf levels off the lights marked in flower. I don't top or defoliate. I end up with thick stems.
@KD420hio2 ай бұрын
Have you ever seen plants half bud half veg ? My buddy had beautiful crop and failed to realize there was a streetlight hitting half of his plants until it was late and very clear only half the plants were budding

Gmornin. Tokin lit pineapple in central illinois. Yep you've influenced me to switch to mainline. I'm doing it with my golden tiger in my big sativa closet. But yeah, the mistakes you're describing are overlove. Over feeding, over watering, over pruning.
@Homebrewwhisky2 ай бұрын
I know it's old but I prefer topping n scrogging super simple , main lining takes longer rather than top grow top again then the scrog net trains spreads them out to get a nice even canopy,that being said I did mainline a critical Kush and it's got donkeys it's just a few weeks behind the rest

So do you stll do this and what if im 1 and a half weeks into flip? Can i still try it or are we gonns herm them? I got 2 bro grimm photos going and they are going slow to flip.

Pine Mulch for moisture control, and fungus knats can't breed. Living soil though, and they get oxygen from water. Cardboard is a bit ridiculous, you could create anaerobic soil, or bad bacteria.

Really genuine question do you think putting a thin layer of sand above your top soil is beneficial to not grow mold and circulation wouldnt be that bad i thi k idk just wanted to hear your thiughts ive heard it once or twice
@trueharvestconnection2 ай бұрын
Adding 1-2in of sand can be a great thing depending on your style of growing. It will help retain moisture and has the added benefits of root gnats can’t lay eggs and live in that sand layer. Just gets hard if you’re a top dresser
@420scene2 ай бұрын
It's a great idea but I use a floor fan to aerate the soil, keeping mold away.
@mikeinnj44242 ай бұрын
I believe sand works best outdoors, indoors I would use something like perlite, or even a crushed up egg shell if organic. I have roasted egg shells and shrimp shells, ground them up and top dressed my indoor plants (not cannabis) for years. I’m curious if anyone else has done this and their thoughts.

I recommend training clips you get the perfect bend every time and theyre actually easier than ties
@420scene2 ай бұрын
I'm old school I guess. I don't like bud clips, they always looked sketch to me. But at the end of the day, whatever works. :)
@williamzetting76472 ай бұрын
@420scene I tried them on my last run and they worked beautifully the only piece of advice I'd have to give is watch out for when the stem thickens after the bend cuz the stem will grow into the clip but that was the only worry I had

The cardboard cut out keeps the soil from rising when watering. Yes rocks are more viable but that's all I can figure why someone would do it🤷 lol
