Restoration of Independence, not Independence. Portugal is centuries older than Spain. Great analysis 👍

3:20 I personally find it infuriating when my friends are not on schedule for lame reasons. I find that impolite actually. But you covered the rest accurately 😉

Batates frita are always served with usually both condiments. At least where I live. Born in Germany, and Germans usually not very extroverted, I therefore appreciate the way Portuguese approach strangers. Especially when compared with the folks from my secondary home, Canada. But once you are a friend, things definitely change. Muitos abraços e beijinhos.

About beeing on time, in business beeing 5 minutes late it's the edge of beeing inside or out. Ususlly we are polite but, after 5 minutes there's not much space for politiness... On social occasions, that's a very different approach. Everybody arrives about 15 minutes later unless you arrive "erlier" just to help the host. Those 15 minutes it's the space you give the host for the last minute issue you have to deal with (maibe the drinks or the food are not already at the table, because the host was to busy to cook it...) and you don't want to be the first to arrive. It's a strange protocol, but it is what it is. About Cristiano Ronaldo, well, times there are achanging. You start to a have a small opportunity just to say that he wasn't as well as we expected on the last european championship😉

Most Portuguese people are not afraid to criticize anyone or receive criticism! We are direct, we don't like it if they spend half an hour beating the bushes and then going to the point, By the time they get to the point, we're tired of hearing them talk and we've lost interest! Tuga that is Tuga doesn't hide behind beautiful words, unless things are changing and I haven't noticed yet! 🤔 For me, I hope it never changes because these little things distinguish us from others!

Pretty spot on! Except for 1 in my case, I couldn't care less about football, even if it's the national team. Sure I'm happy if they win, because I know how much that matters to many people, but that's it. Still no interest in watching the games and usually have no clue of even who the players are.

Podes criticar quem quiseres desde que o faças diretamente à pessoa em questão.

Me too, I hate to arrive late. If I promise to be there at a certain time, I’ll be there and people do not like to wait because if you arrive late without informing before, that’s quite rude because you are failing your promise. That was probably some time ago, not any more. As for meal invitations maybe a five minute is ok, later than that the host gets worried because food is all ready and if it waits too long it might spoil whatever was planned. Arroz de Marisco, for instance cannot wait too long. 😊👍

About time to arrival... A portuguese know when to arrive, it's difficult to manage because it's something you try to explain about minutes and it's the feeling when it's a good time to arrive it's not about minutes. Being 50minutes or 1h30minutes late is acceptable if it's the feeling between the group of friends, that for outsiders if invited for something imagine being on time and everyone else arrive one hour later and the hosts have to be there doing small talk it's just horrible, but if you are new in the group you can't be the last one to arrive that's a lack of respect to everyone
