What you said about Vecna attacking with his left hand while El attacks with her right reminded me that, in D&D lore, Vecna's original form was betrayed and killed by Kas, who was known as "Vecna's Right-Hand Man." But after every time he gets defeated, Vecna somehow, after a time, manages to come back stronger than ever. That's why, in the first episode, when Vecna appears in the D&D game, Mike protests, "But Vecna was killed by Kas!" Similarly, 001 tried to make El his Right Hand Man, and she basically was for a minute bc she helped him escape, before turning on him and apparently killing him, but actually only delaying his inevitable return to a greater-than-ever level of power.

The most notable feature to recognize a Black Widow spider is the "Hour Glass" shaped marking on it's abdomen. The Hour Glass essentially 'counts backwards' indicating 'how much time you have left. Just like the Grandfather Clock. I believe this fact was the reason the Black Widow was included in the series.

What about Stephen King's Carrie? A heavily bullied teenage girl (who happens to have telekinetic powers) sees red and becomes dangerous after being publicly humiliated whilst on a date with the guy she had a crush on. Eleven suffers from a lot of bullying this season, and her violent actions at the roller rink during her date with Mike, right after a milkshake is poured on her, must have been influenced by the famous prom scene.

I thought it was a way for Vecna to boost his psychic powers, either by suspending himself to act as a sort of sensory deprivation (like the salt baths) OR, my favorite, by connecting directly to the hive mind. Sort of like, hardwiring himself with the Mind Flayer. Maybe both! It seems pointless for him to do that JUST to look different when killing?? no one is even seeing him. But I guess it's possible, serial killers/psychopaths are usually very into showmanship lol. Maybe he created it for when people can eventually see him.

When the Hellfire Club is playing in Eddie’s campaign, the first roll in order to kill Vecna landed on 11 and Eddie screams “that’s a miss” so I don’t think Eleven will be able to handle Vecna herself. Also, if they’re so alike, could Vecna be her polar opposite? Maybe Eleven feels like she’s a monster because she feels that part of her soul existing somewhere else in the Universe??

11+9=20 and they needed a 20 to beat vecna; this could mean that 11 needs the help of 9 other characters to defeat vecna. But the current main characters in hawkins (other than Eleven) are Steve, Nancy, Will, Mike, Dustin, Mike, Eddie, Lucas, Max, and Jonathan, which is 10 not 9. This also supports another theory that Steve or another main character will die.

Henry's resolve was cemented by meeting Eleven... In that he finally met someone powerful with no I'll intent, a genuinely good person inside... It's why he seemed legitimately shocked when she accused him of tricking her... He had been locked up, and more or less tortured into submission for 20 years at that point... In a way, he finally met someone who gave him hope, even if it's a twisted version of hope, and then completed his downfall by rejecting him into the upside-down... I love it when a villain actually has a compelling argument... Makes them 100x more terrifying...

I worked on this season as the sound FX editor. The beginning of Ep 403 when the house wife is washing up in the kitchen and something arrives outside, shaking the whole house is a nod to Close Encounters. The idea was to not reveal what it is until we cut to the exterior shot when we finally see that it's just a helicopter

Good stuff! A few things I noticed: -Max's room also has a poster featuring disembodied eyes. Eyes are a major motif in this season, and this could be a LOTR/Sauron reference. Eddie mentions Mordor, etc. -One of Nancy's main outfits (in "The Dive" and other eps) has blue/white stripes and a big white "collar", very similar to Robin's Scoops Ahoy uniform from S3. -While Max's mom is passed out watching TV in their trailer, the TV show mentions a character named Billy. -In the Creel house, you'll see a taxidermied (stuffed) dead cat, followed by Dustin walking in the background. I thought this could be a reference to Mews (RIP). -And this may be a stretch but.... breakfast cereals are referenced a few times: Eddie eats Honeycomb out of the box, there is a Cheerio's commercial on TV in one episode, and Erica's D&D character is Lady Applejack.

No I don’t think he does at all. He does however have people constantly around him protecting him. And the door would have hurt but not killed him. The Demogorgon didn’t directly attack him. Nor did El. I’m sure he was ushered out quickly. He always has body guards. One probably thought he was dead so no need to do anything else. Yet if he is the “bad guy” he’s thought to be. (Which I truly don’t think so at all now. He loved those children. In his own way) One would have twisted him up regardless of if he thought he was dead or not. Well I don't know if this is truly an easter egg but here we go. The way that 1 initially suggested 11 find her power was using a memory that made her angry and sad(what he does) but gains true power through loving memory. It's a little similar to the way the force in Star Wars works. Dark side vs the light, 1 vs 11

Yeah, there's definitely some Jedi vs. Sith vibes going on. 001 teaches Eleven to use anger to tap into her powers, and Kali gave the same advice in S2. In contrast, when Max is escaping from Vecna she goes into a montage of happy memories, which somehow gives her the strength to break the vines, rip that piece out of Vecna's neck, and run back to the real world. Typing that last part made me realize that both Eleven and Max both rip a piece out of 001/Vecna's neck. El does it when she removes his implant before he goes on his rampage.

Here are some of my favourite theories I’ve come across so far: 1. El will defeat Vecna by using the emotion of Love to give her strength. 001 kept telling El to think of sad and angry memories, this is because really it gives him strength, as Max was only able fo escape Vecna when her happy memories came back to her. Same way that El was able to defeat 001 in the Lab when her memory of her mother came into her mind. 2. I read that vecna is a metaphor for suicide and I thought that was such an amazing idea! ( don’t know whether it’s 100% true but it most likely is ) as he targets victims with trauma, some we can see may have been suicidal like Christie for example how wanted very strong drugs maybe to OD. And others that may not have shown signs of being suicidal but definitely depressed e.g. Max, the boy from the basket ball team etc. 3. Unfortunately I think Steve might Die to save Nancy, or maybe get stuck in the upside down. It’s clear they both have feelings for each other, and when they were all climbing on that piece of fabric to get back to the normal world Nancy ended up somewhere else (she is clearly the next victim of Vecnas for she has trauma of letting Barb die) so maybe Steve will save her but die or sacrifice himself in some way for her freedom idk that’s just my thoughts I really hope he doesn’t die though one of my absolute favourite characters 😥

One of my favorite details is that the "upside-down" is not really upside down, its a mirror image of the real world. There are constant nods to this, like just before 001 is thrown into the updside-down 011 throws him through mirrored glass (which I believe is also a nod to Alice in Wonderland, through the looking glass). Another clever nod to this in this season was when Nancy decends the stairs of the mansion in the upside-down after climbing out of the pool - you will notice that the rail is on the left side, but when the visions switch to 001's past in the real world, you can see the stairs have switched side, now having the rail on the right hand side. They do this quite a lot, but they also ignore it when it might confuse the audience - like when they go back to the trailer where Chrissy died, the trailer is not reversed so you can recognize it, nor is the writting in Nancy's Diary reversed.

I went back and watched season 3, and there’s a moment where Billy tricks El. He is in Hops cabin with her, speaking for the Mind Flayer. He says “You are going to have to let us stay. He also has a moment where he is flashed into the upside down when using the pay phone. Theres a group of people walking up to him, one who resembles himself. Someone please tell me I’m not the only one who noticed the watchmen references. During the origin of 01 they play the same music used during dr Manhattans origin in the movie watchmen. Vecna uses clocks to get people. Dr Manhattan has connections with clocks and watches. Also the famous dr Manhattan pose is used when vecna is making his victim float . And this is during 1986 where watchmen began being published. I hope I’m not reaching ?

Yes!! Thank you! It is so clear to me. the first part is Philip glass’s Prophecies, but when they transition to the next song Pruit Igoe like they do in watchmen, the music isn’t exactly the same like they didn’t get the license to use it so the transition is based on it! That’s not a coincidence in my opinion!

Vecna or 001 is blasted into the upside down in 1979, the same year the movie for Amityville Horror came out. Present time is 1986 in our story this season. Amityville also had a movie in 92' that featured a Clock. Depending on what time of the year it is...I can see the number 666. Now that's a reach my friend.

Easter Eggs i noticed related to Nightmare on Elm Street. In one scene the Vecnas one of Vecnas hand or fingers are longer like Freddy Kruger. And Nancy is the name of main victim of Freddy Kruger. The whole idea that Vecna stalks victims in like a dream state is like Freddy Krueger. Also the scene where max was able to escape upside down world with a peace torn off Vecna is just like the Nancy character in Nightmare on Elm Street ripping Freddy Krueger ear off when escaping her dream to wake up. This season had alot of relatability to Nightmare on Elm Street. Not to mention the same actor that voiced Vecna is the same actor who played all the early Nightmare on Elm Street movies or early Freddy Krueger

In the final episode of season 4 split 1 during the flashback sequence of the Creel’s, it shows victor creel entering the house with a Freddy Krueger hat on and his silhouette in the window is a Freddy pose. Also, when 001 is explaining his motives to El in the same episode he is definitely channeling Billy Loomis from scream after the big reveal
