Hey guys, I'm back with another Fallout 4 video and today I want to go over my Top 8 Best Automatic Ballistic and Energy Rifles and Pistols in Fallout 4! For the past couple videos, i've been looking for the best non-unique guns and weapons in the game and I think these are the of what Automatic weapons have to offer.

Actually I find the mini gun and auto pipe weapons to be very obsolete, though the fire rate is very good although the base damage is aweful and that is what makes it very bad weapon

DPS matters, damage per shot is completely useless unless you are sniping. In this video your number 2 gun takes a long time to take down that queen. The gattling laser, although not technically a rifle, is the best auto in the game. The ammo is actually very long lasting and extremely efficient. When doing these experiments what really matters is time, not damage. How long does it take to kill x, or how long does it take to kill 4 x. For example when being swarmed by 4 ghouls, how will that slow firing weapon do when you are getting knocked around? It will suck. Ammo is a problem for auto weapons but having 2, like one laser and one 45 helps a lot. I played one playthrough with power armor and gattling laser and never had any problems at all with fusion cores. I actually had too many in my inventory.

The Gatling Laser isn't an automatic weapon, it's a heavy weapon. This video takes into account weapons that benefit from the commando perk, which the Gatling Laser does not

I agree with randy's main premise, though. DPS is very important. I don't think the shotgun's spread was taken into account for this video because the damage is split between the beads. every single one needs to land to do max damage, and each one is resisted individually... which is why it didn't kill the mirelurk queen very fast... shotguns are shit against armored enemies. and then the railway rifle was just slow... too slow.... it is the most ammo efficient of the list, but that doesn't mean it is best, I think. laser and plasma tend to take the lead in this category, i think, with combat rifle taking a close third due to being able to craft .45 ammo(and lower cost/round) without the use of non-DLC mods.

Butterbean It is fully automatic, but in a different category. You hold the button down and it spits out bullets. Again, its really about DPS. Yes you would need to put points into a different category but it would be well worth it. Otherwise go with Pray n Spray if you want to stay in Commando. Any discussion of auto weapons in the game should point out that the game splits fully auto weapons up. Games are werid this way and that's why we have KZbin. The Gatling has a spin up time and also slows down your movement, so that should be factored in. I kinda with the Pray n Spray didnt exist. Its cheap and I know where it is LOL.

Yeah I can't stand shotguns. I tried to do a shotgun build, didn't work out well. There is something to be said for making difficult builds though. I'm sorta lazy. That's why I like a 'one size fits all' gun, or melee. Melee is pretty damn fun since you don't have that damn ammo problem. Not easy though.

I enjoy most of your vids, but this one is hogwash... Damage per shot for automatic weapons?? -Absolutely meaningless. The shotgun is rubbish.. During the test you only got her to half health, and I guess you died before getting her down. Same with the rail gun. -And with the extremely limited spikes available it's nothing but a fun item in line with the Broadsider and the Junk Jet. -If you look at the damage you deal, there are two weapons that are completely in a class of their own in this selection; The assault Rifle and the Plasma Rifle. ~15 sec to kill the queen...

Um...Whatever you do, don't make the combat shotgun automatic.You're missing out on nearly 30 more damage and it doesn't fire that much faster. You can just spam the mouse button to fire nearly as fast.

If you ever find a combat shotgun with the explosive legendary effect keep it. It is broken OP because since it's a shotgun it fires a bunch of projectiles and each projectile has its own explosion

*sigh* y'know it's really misleading to look at all these weapons in a vacuum, because the railway rifle is hot garbage, it only looks better than the others because you're not accounting for perks or legendary weapon effects. Literally any automatic weapon with the Furious effect shits all over the Railway Rifle in terms of killing time, although the Assault Rifle is likely the best option due to having virtually no recoil. The only weapon better than a furious automatic is the fully upgraded Cryolator. Why, you ask? Because, the Cryolator's crystallizing barrel recieves a damage buff from both Commando AND Demolition's Expert, try it some time, it rips through deathclaws like tissue paper, the only other weapon that comes close to those two things is a combat shotgun with the Explosive effect, because each individual pellet explodes resulting in obscene one-shot-kill level damage on all but the tankiest foes.

+Frogsplosion The Railway Rifle's problem is the recoil. Assuming I could land all headshots on the mirelurk queen, it would've been showcased a bit better. The Furious effect alone would probably make any gun on this list pretty sick, especially the guns with higher fire rate. The Cryolator benefits from Heavy Guns perk opposed to commando. It does benefit from Demolition expert though, i just wish cryolator ammo was more common.

Diego Villatoro pellets are indeed affected by damage reduction but for some reason the explosive effect is not, and you deal 7x damage. In effect it's like having three spray and prays. Though this is assuming you can find one which is utterly luck based.

if you can find a rapid fire laser rifle with the rapid legendary effect you'll be unstoppable. and you can make it even more powerful with the commando perk. oh and damage per shot doesn't matter with automatics. it's the dps that is great about them

I managed to get a two shot laser rifle from a legendary deathskull radscorpian and as a automatic it's pretty reliable with the proper perks and upgrades. I recommend putting the quantum gyro compensating lens and recoil compensating stock on it. Also, I don't recommend putting a beam splitter on even it adds more damage because the recoil is ridiculous.

5.56 is sooo common, just get one rank in scrounger, you will have like 4000 rounds of it in no time, i at one point had like 8000 rounds of it, then decided to buy a legendary weapon using it and the .38 rounds i had, i still have copious amounts of both

Since I love automatics in this game and it is so hard to find a list for Commando users this is both a pleasant and welcome surprise. You make a very good point in saying that there is no 10mm SMG in this game and considering how much better the 10mm automatic is versus the .38 pipe SMG (yes you can find pipe rifles that are actually called Pipe SMGs in and around Good neighbor) a 10mm SMG would prolly kick the hell out of the .45 SMG.

+dataumbreon That makes sense on the one hand. On the other, ammo is fairly finite and you want to maximize the damage potential of each bullet you send out and I made my list based on that. Even if the .45 Submachine Gun had better DPS than the .45 Combat Rifle, it would be at the cost of significantly more ammo.

The Extra Crispy Colonel I know these are old comments, but Im just getting back into Fallout 4 for a completionist vanilla survival playthrough. I put in 400 hours before on 2 separate playthroughs (300 on the second of those two). Fallout 4 has the second most amount of content of any of Bethesdas games (behind only Skyrim) not including DLC. Fallout 4 simply has more to offer than Fallout 3. More bobbleheads, more locations, more enemy variations, more collectibles, more magazines, more missions, and more side activities. This isn't a matter of opinion, but a matter of fact. Compare any of these attributes on the fallout wiki and you will see. You may have preferred Fallout 3 to Fallout 4 (I personally liked the non voiced protagonist and DC far more than the voiced protagonist and boston), but Fallout 4 does not suffer from lack of content. Comparatively, it may be lacking to Skyrim and more so The Witcher 3, but it is still a big game well worth its original price tag. I've yet to play the DLC

If you are a vats commando build the railway rifle is a beast, 300 dam for only 20 ap at base. if 'specced to maximize this with perks bobbleheads and books that's 1950dam so 97.5dam per action point.

I don't understand your choice to rank these weapons according to damage per shot. DPS would make a lot more sense, since these are automatic weapons, at least, according to me. It probably would have been a good idea to take magazine size into account as well. Nevertheless, it was still a good video, you just need to think a little more logically. Normally Automatic weapons used in hot & intense situation. weapons like shotgun, railway rifle have slow fire rate and high recoil, cannot guarantee hit a target. Small Magazine drops DPS. Also Legendary Effects like Explosive, Plasma, Wounding, Fury can be more effective with high rate fire weapons. Assault Rifle should be top tear among these weapons he mentioned, because of its low recoil/high accuracy, relatively high rate of fire & DPS, big Magazine, fast Reload.

AP Spray n pray + Commado5+Demolition Expert5+ Better Criticals 3 + Overdrive kills the Mirelurcqueen in 20-30 shots on Survival. aaaand anything else.

+Nivolasy And if you happen to get an explosive pipe pistol you can get the same AP automatic receiver, recoil compensating stock, better barrel, Silencer (if you want it) and you don't feel like such a chump for wasting .45 rounds to get the exact same damage and fire rate with better range you could have gotten with the .38 rounds which are found everywhere and are cheap as hell to buy if you ever need to. Long story short, get an explosive pipe pistol and save the caps you would have spent on the spray and pray on something worth while. Another fun alternative would be an exploding combat shotgun. Go full auto and and watch the Mirelurk queen drop with 1/3 the number of shots fired. Farming is your friend. The Spray and Pray is not. On a side note: If you have the luck to get Better Criticals you may want to think about Bloody Mess as a more practical and reliable alternative or to use it with BC.

6 years late, does the point of automatic weapon is to have a good dps ? Why measure it with damage per shot ? Anyway just get the wounding legendary effect on automatic gun. The damage is stacked and ignore target resistences. I got wounding laser pistol from a legendary ghoul irrc, convert it into full auto rifle with boosted gamma wave emmiter(add lil' bit of burning damage). The damage is ...a bit broken even in survival difficulty lol Edit : it's more like stacking damage over time than just doing direct damage

+Derik NA The Gatling laser is a heavy weapon, not an automatic weapon. The weapons on this list are all weapons that benefit from the Commando perk while the Gatling Laser benefits from the Heavy Weapons Perk. Otherwise, you're correct I think.

I think you got it wrong... when you consider automatics you have to consider their rate of fire. You are only looking at the damage... you cant approach them like they are semi automatics :S The combat rifle might deal a little more damage but the assault rifle shoots twice almost twice as fast and probably 5 times or more faster than a shotgun.

I like all your videos but in regards to this one shouldn't you have also accounted for rates of fire? It makes sense for semi autos to be judged based on pure damage alone, but the rate of fire is what makes an automatic weapon useful. Great job as always, but damage isn't always the most important thing.

Assault Rifle has a higher RoF than the Combat Rifle, as well as SIGNIFICANTLY lower recoil, which matters greatly with automatics. With no perks, a fully upgraded Assault Rifle deals 394.2 DPS, with almost no recoil. By comparison, a fully upgraded Combat Rifle deals 342 DPS, while having very high recoil, and an erratic recoil pattern. The Assault Rifle is simply a better Automatic than the Combat Rifle. As a side note, an Automatic 10mm Pistol serves the same purpose as the 10mm SMG did in previous games, meaning its inclusion would be pointless from a gameplay perspective, and from a "Lore" perspective, the Chinese Assault Rifle isn't in the game either, I bet you complain about that, too.
