What's going on Guys! This is VinylicPuma and I finally got this video finished! As was requested, I went ahead and made a video comparing some of the various ammo types available to the player in Fallout 4. This episode will be a Worst to Best comparison of all of the Ballistic Ammo Types in Fallout 4. So without further ado, To 10 Worst to Best Ballistic Ammunition Types in Fallout 4!

The way that resistances work in Fallout make this list less accurate. The game measures the ratio of damage in each hit to resistance. For certain ranges of ratio, it blocks a certain percentage of the hit. For example, if you deal 100 damage per hit and they have 10 resistance it would block, let's say, 5% and you would deal 95 damage per hit. But if you were to deal 50 damage per hit and they have 10 resistance it would block, say, 10% dealing 40 damage per hit. This means that 2 shots of 50 damage does not equal 1 shot of 100 damage. Often times, it is better to go with a more expensive ammo because it breaks through the resistances better. The .38 round may have better damage per cap, but it doesn't hold up in practical application.

Added bonus to the Railway Gun is you can nail enemies to the wall. The shotgun has a sharp decline in damage with distance. I wish Bethesda would have included the special ammo types for the AMR and Shotgun. With FO4 having non-lethal options, rubber slugs and/or bean bag shells would have been nice. Fletchette shells would be nice for the fauna in game. The AP and explosive rounds for the AMR to take on Mirelurk Queens, robot, and Power Armor.

Funny, first time I ever played FO4, I played on very hard, and midway through the game I was selling ammo(including fusion cores) for settlement building materials. I think it pays to invest in scrounger and nuclear physicist perks

random guy I'm using the Overseers Guardian and the .308 is the best ammo type you can use on it. It gives a huge dmg output, but for me scrounger is a waste of points. The only good thing about that perk is that i can sell all the other ammo to buy the .308 rounds.

I never use scrounger. I consider it to be a waste of perks. It's easy to make money in this game and just buy the bullets. I used to make a lot of purified water and sell it. But now I just pick up every gun that's dropped by the enemies. There is ammo in every gun and after a mission, I stop by the Castle to sell all the weapons I picked up. I then use the money to buy bullets. Rince and repeat. My ammo count goes up after every mission, not down. I have thousands of bullets for all my favorite weapons...

While watching this I found it a little unfair that when the 10mm came up that you went the route of using a legendary weapon for analysis. If that was the case then I feel that the.308 and.45 need a re evaluation on the basis of using the calibers with the Overseer's Guardian.

I'd like to point out that if you are buying .38 ammo, there is something very wrong. I used an auto pipe pistol for a very very long time and still had more than 5000 left over at the end. That was without Scrounger btw.

You can use 5.56 in any guns if you get the m4 carbine legendary effect from far harbour on it

At 3:07 you mentioned 50 cal being rare. Getting scrounger 3 as soon as possible is highly recommended. I had 1247 rounds by lvl 32.

I got a explosive .38 pipe rifle that wipes out packs of lvl50+ super mutants with a few shots. End game ammo doesn't really matter, what ever is the easier obtain and conserve.

I got a double shot 10mm pistol and after upgrading it, I can get 86 damage for the cost of one 10mm bullet. For my build its definitely my best XD

Again, the math and the clickbait title don't match. The only way to aqquire accurate data would be to have use all of these bullets in the same gun... which would of course be impossible, and plus, there are far too many variables for this to be even relatively useful. Perks, weapon discipline, S.P.E.C.I.A.L stats and accuracy. Love the bl content but not feeling the FO vids...

I was going to comment that the damage of 5mm bullets didn't matter because the mini gun would fire so many if these that the low damage wouldn't matter. Then I saw how that Gunner was barely taking any damage, then I remember on my own play through I faced a mini gun and it didn't really take out a significant amount of health from me out of power armor.

All attempts at realism with ammo types go out the window when an attacker takes multiple 50bmg shots to the body at close range and not only survives but continues the attack. This is where mods are very useful, one shot one kill ( and you can be taken out easily too)

I came to like Overseer's Guardian .38 modification. I literally swim in ammo whenever I spent all other ammo types. And with two-shot mod on already decent Combat Rifle, I am able to fight high level enemies reliably (Survival). I keep Gauss Rifle for bigger tougher enemies and Deliverer for sneaking through corridors. And Justice in case I am overwhelmed by melee enemies, as it stuns them. Railway Rifle makes steam sounds, too weird for me to use~

I've got a 150 dmg two shot pipe bolt action rifle and i'm loving it in combination with ×5.3 sneak dmg. Its so cheap and eats hp everything even on survival mode

+mikey adalbert OVerseer's guardian outdoes it as well as any 2 shot combat rifle. i've compared them on a character using automatics. S&P does less damage. I don't have demolitions expert but I've done the math and even if I did OG would out damage it still.

mikey adalbert I wanted to play a character that used autos. I originally didn't intend to get the guardian assuming S&P did more damage but I went to the vendor to look at the combat armor she sells for its effects and noticed it was relatively close to S&P's damage per shot. I bought it and did some testing and it does out damage it.

The bright side of 5.56 rounds is that a LOT of PC weapon mods use it, such as the AK 2047 and M2216 to name a few, but if you're going for vanilla only, 5.56 is still very good if you have max charisma, cap collector, and all Tales of a Junktown Jerky Vendor (a great magazine for any reason)

"CMDR" IKill4MySkill Yea. .50 rounds have some very good weapon mods, like the AMR. I recently installed a .45 weapon, the M45A1, and that, too is a really good mod. However, most weapon mods are assault rifles and utilize the 5.56 round.

Yeah it is kind of sad that the .38 ammo being one of the weakest ammo types is not only very cost efficient but since you can find them everywhere, especially with Scrounger then you will only need to buy the rounds if you are using a fully upgraded automatic Pipe Rifle a lot. On a side note it is a tad ironic that .308 rounds, .50 and .44 rounds are the only types you listed that cannot be used with an automatic receiver. It really is a shame that the only way to use .50 ammo on a pistol is the bolt action pipe pistol though unless the similarly slow firing .44 pistol it can be silenced and used with the Mister Sandman perk.

38 ammo is the best in the game in terms of just sheer reliability. Even when you hit the point where you can't do damage with 38 weapons anymore, the ammo is so cheap and abundant that you can just sell it for quick caps.

I have no idea why 2mm EC is considered energy ammo, or why a rail gun is an energy weapon. Lmao i think Bethesda doesnt know what constitutes an energy weapon. Its literally a piece of metal being flung through the air at high speed, it doesnt get any more literally ballistic than that! Just because some plug-in magnets are sitting there doing the work i guess it makes it pinky-up fancy i guess 😂 Now when you start directing lethal energies that arent primarily kinetic, you have found yourself an energy weapon

It's really hard to agree with these assessments when the names are misleading (not the "best" bullets, just the most efficient money-wise) and on occasion the reviews on weapons and ammo seem to be opinions (does the hunting rifle ring any bells?)

But...what about fusion cells and fusion cores? Fusion cores are really good because with ten charisma they are about 240 caps per core and if you have a Gatling laser with the overcharged mod then they do 56 damage per shot but if you have heavy gunner maxed out, it does 112 damage per shot which means that you do nearly double that per bottle so spent of fusion cores.

I found a two shot plasma gun at level 5 on survival, that gun has been with me ever since. it is light and so is the ammo. level 161 now and I still use it. the deliverer and throatslicer only other guns I carry.

+Goofle Originally I was going to do this video based around the listed value for the ammo. So for example, .45 Caliber bullets are 2 bottlecaps a piece. However when you go to buy .45 caliber ammo from a vendor there is some mark up. At 11 charisma(maybe 10 charisma as well), the mark up is just 1 bottlecap. So you end up paying 3 bottlecaps per bullet. What I was finding is that at lower charisma values, the bottlecaps you would pay vendors exceeded the listed value of the ammo itself, so I decided to go for the best case scenario instead.

Your advice to loot .45 ammo is using an automatic is actually VERY good advice. I do that for my spray and pray, and I have over 2000 rounds of the stuff! Scrounger rank 2 is a good perk to have when using some of the ammo types lower on this list, trust me.

For .45, I would say the Spray’n Pray is the best. It’s an SMG, which makes it be effected by both Commando and Rifleman, along with Explosive Expert from the fact that it shoots explosive rounds.

Nice video even if the combat showcase illustrate the vacuity of such comparison, your character takes no damage while exposed to multiple heavily armed enemies, foes taking head shots like gentle flicks. Meaningful let's say the first 20 levels then it seems pointless. The game simply doesn't really allow such thoughtful approach to actually make sense which is deplorable really.

+babouchcka Game Uh, the Power Armor Paintjob is T51 Vault 13 by a6addon. Otherwise, I'm using Cut Weapon Mods restored, Power armor animation 0.4, Slooty Vault Jumpsuit, Legendary Modification, Ragdoll Collision, Pipboy 3000 Vault 111 Edition, and All weapons HD (A.W.H.D.) to name a few.

Partially to increase the challenge, I kept using 38 as my primary weapon. It helps that I'm heavily spected into Commando in my current playthrough, and have a two shot legendary with a rapid auto receiver. I've been using it and a Ghoulslayer 10mm also, w/powerful auto. I'm still looking for an explosive version of either one.

i expected this response; i don't really knock you for following the game's classifications. ballistic damage should've been called physical damage, seeing as junk and railway spikes are categorized as 'ballistic' damage.

+thegamelegend25 Fusion Cores are the best ammo to buy if you do consider buying some. After that, probably .38 and 5mm. Or if you have a really powerful weapon like the gauss rifle.

I don’t really understand what people don’t get..he explains it like 2 seconds in the fucking video it’s bang per buck which is a solid, but not end all be all method everyone has different perks and prefers different things, stop complaining
