From what I understand, the lighting in the GCN version caused Luigi's shadow to be displayed incorrectly during that one moment. The change of lighting in the 3DS version displays a more accurate shadow.

How about in Luigi’s Mansion? King Boo controls a corpse of Bowser, E. Gadd’s turning souls of real people into paintings, including Chauncey, a baby born as a ghost. The stakes were high, as Mario was out and our beloved villain Bowser was out and Luigi had to depend on a stranger. And then the losing screens, especially on European I think. Even the other 2 games were disturbing. If not their story, their endings, where they become paintings.

Super mario galaxy and galaxy 2 is from a timeline perspective, the first game/s involving bowser kidnapping peach.
