BONUS! Here are a few more safety accessories we recommend: 1. Helmet to keep your noggin safe 2. Clip-in Shoes or Heel Straps to prevent slipping 3. Patch Kit and Tube to fix a flat if needed

Just added a second mirror to the right side of my TeraTrike EVO. It does make a big difference with improved rear vision. I also carry all the tools and safety equipment mentioned. I have an electric horn, but it is loud enough. The trike came with Gumonder tires but will switch them out with Schwalbes when it's time to replace them. The only close calls, safety wise, is when folks are backing up. I am always looking for backup lights when I have to ride in these areas, horn in hand.

I have been running Schwalbe Marathon PLUS tires since 2009 on my recumbent trikes (except for my ICE Full Fat because Schwalbe doesn't make one that big 😃). Marathon PLUS tires have never failed me on any of my day, regional, or cross country rides. I have never had a flat with them, including riding through thousands of goat head thorns (the big ugly tire-murdering spikes), broken glass, and metal shards on the shoulders of highways. Times when I thought that I would have gotten a flat, I did not. I always recommend these tires for a flat-free triking experience, even though the tires are slightly heavier and present more road friction, but they are still plenty fast for those cyclists who are focused heavily on always maintaining high speeds on their rides. I don't ride to race, so whatever minimal difference the Marathon PLUS may make in my top speeds, I really do not care. For me, never having flat tires is worth any perceived drawbacks to the best tire on the market (but of course, we all have different priorities, and are willing to accept varied levels of inconvenience). On my HP Velotechnik, the dual mirrors are mounted on the kingpin posts, left and right, so I can see directly behind me even in turns, unlike when I used to run two Mountain Mirrycle mirrors on the bar-ends or handlebars, which would turn with bars, providing me views of myself rather than traffic. Thanks for the talk Mickey! See ya' ... steve

I agree that the Air Sounds horn is indispensable, especially for those giant SUVs rolling into your path from a side street where the driver is on the phone with kids in the back and the windows are rolled up. Then, after I lay on my Air Zounds to jolt them into the here-and-now, they curse at me for impeding the progress of their 3 ton cyclist killing machine. Ok, that was a bit of hyperbole. Seriously, my Air Zounds has probably saved me from serious injury or worse multiple times by alerting oblivious drivers approaching the bike lane from side streets and driveways. Some of these drivers were on the phone or texting while others are just oblivious to their surroundings. My Air Zounds also comes in handy on trails when people are walking three abreast and ignore the four times I rang my bike bell. A quick toot of my Air Zounds is all it usually takes to get their attention. Usually, they look apologetic as I smile and waive as I pass them. I always give walkers and cyclists plenty of notice before I pass them and smile and waive as I pass them. I often give them a sincere thank you if they go out of their way to give me room, especially if they are walking a dog and they hold the dog until I pass.

Thank you Mickey for this video. I added the AirZound to my Dumont. I did an American Cancer Society Ride and used the horn to alert traffic when I was crossing a covered bridge on the ride. Keep on Trikin'!

The AirZound is such a simple, yet effective safety tool for your trike. I would ride without one.

Good points. I have them already. I hope this keeps me from being squished.

Er, I use a mirror all the time on my bike. Really important on the roads where I live.
