If you survey planets, botany is pretty handy, as is zoology. It allows you to scan the plant 4 times instead of 8, so it saves a fair amount of time on looking for some tiny hard to find plants.

Six at the first perk level. You may have the second level. Scans are eight with no perks (Botany/Zoology), six with one, four with two, two with three, and I'm not sure about four. Just one? Or you get more benefits. Six at level one means the grind is still annoying.

lone wolf can actually work really well if you focus a build on it, if you choose introvert trait with the respective skills you can deal huge amounts of DMG and if you don't really need extra storage it's a win/win, other thing is that traits like the fan can be hilarious, you get the ultimate companion that you don't need to worry about, extra storage and you can't make it angry in any way

It robs you of some interesting content. It also prevents your borderline idiotic, self-righteous, and/or emotionally broken followers from getting on that last nerve. The worst companions in history of gaming, can't stand any of them (especially Sarah). They are so incredibly irritating, yapping all the time about everything you do, dull characters and stories, and they're not particularly useful in combat either nor their 'help' is needed, combat is relatively easy and stealth with them is actually more difficult. But if you really need to take someone, take Vasco, it works with lone wolf perk.

@presticus7 ай бұрын
I disagree with #5 & 8. The hire able crew that have actual names all have their own backstory you can talk to them about, they do comment on the galaxy around you (just not as much as the Constellation crew), and about 1/3 of them are morally "flexable" and won't get pissed of with theft and random murder. Also you pass a persuade check you can cut their hiring fee in half and 10k credits or less is peanuts in this game after your first few hours. Higher ranked Commerce skill also cuts down their recruitment fee. Picking the wrong skill isn't a hindrance so much as it is hiccup. There's no hard level cap so if you think you picked the wrong skill you can always grind out another one in short order.
@hadoken957 ай бұрын
oh I completely disagree with #4. All the Constellation characters basically share a hive mind when it comes to their personalities and likes/dislikes with how you handle things. While there are others you can have go with you, none of them have fully developed stories making them just not too bright mobile storage spaces that occasionally take a few bullets from you. Enter the Isolation skill which turns you into far more than the sum of your parts with a companion. No, it is certainly not a bad decision to play alone - just another VERY viable path to take.
@Khalifrio7 ай бұрын
Agreed. I do like Andraja though. She doesn't seem to be of the goody two shoes attitude like the other three. Plus she gives you credits from time to time. The others gifts are lame. She likes running the Red Mile and doesn't to have a hissy fit when you do the Ryujin quest line. She only toes the party line when it comes to whether you stop Ryujin from going forward with a questionable research line. I also take Vasco for a ship guard and his Aenutronic Fusion perk. Its a free unit of power for your ship just for letting ride along. Plus he doesn't spout random chatter for no reason.
@hadoken957 ай бұрын
@@Khalifrio Andreja is a bit misleading as while she has stealth and you literally are introduced to her murdering people - she has a problem if you kill people who aren't part of the hostile factions, and makes fairly disapproving comments to you picking locks. On my ship, after all the missions are done, I carry one defence specialist, payload specialist, damage control specialist, and one fusion specialist... besides keeping Sarah around for her perks while not even counted as one of the crew. She has a fantastic backstory, and even flirts at the idea of joining constellation. While Constellation has better pilots including me, Andreja's voice lines get so effing repetitive! Hearing Andromeda's sweet angelic voice turn into a battlecry as she screams at the ecliptic mercs trying to kills us is reward enough for me. I let Tomisar live because, probably reading/thinking to much into it, I didn't want Andreja to be branded a traitor. She'd not only be hunted by her people (or anyone they hired) but she'd never be able to go back home (and potentially be with her family). She'd lose her one connection to figuring out where her home planet is. I was also hoping the threat of being reported would, potentially, allow Tomisar to be blackmailed into helping out Andreja. Probably none of that is going to happen (or even matter) and I should have just let Andreja kill him. If I do a second playthrough I'm going to let her kill him..and she's going to be my wife..gotta make the wife happy now don't we? :D

Disagree with Nr 8: too many players, you included, are minmaxing so the game becomes easier. Whenever really roleplaying however, it is often the negatives, the quirks or the less than perfect stats that make the game much more interesting and fun. I started improving my culinary skills from the very beginning and have had a lot of fun levelling up my cooking and mixing skills. This has even improved my ‘real’ skills behind the 8:21 bar mixing drinks (similar to the series ‘Zombie’ where Rose, being a Zombie picks up the traits and interests of the brains she eats in the morgue where she works that day). Also, sucking at something can be fun.

So, I choose to let Tomasar go... and as soon as the dialogue ended I killed him. It was fun.

Not going to say which choice I made regarding Tomisar, but I will say it has no impact on the game. A lost opportunity for Bethesda within this game.

Yeah but so called bad decisions makes it more interesting. On a separate note, I wish companions would stop throwing grenades at me, they're like the worst grenade throwers ever...I really should stop equipping them with throwables. Also, Sam is a prick. He had a right go at me for killing spacers, duh. I sacked his sorry arse along with his even more annoying kid who wanted him to read her a bed time story every time I went into dogfight.

Statswise the best traits are taskmaster and serpent's embrace, the first one just costs money, something you can have infinite of with just a simple outpost, and the second one gives you a perma-buff, as you are probably always grav jumping right before you need the buff. Wanted or Alien DNA are close seconds depending on you wanting more combat encounters or better health and O2.
@paulchurchill50457 ай бұрын
'Stat Wise',you are incorrect because firstly Serpents Embrace isn't a permanent health buff ,it last only 3 hours of game time after Grav jumping,so for example if you sleep after Grav jumping for 3 hours it goes away but then will decrease your health pool below a characters health pool that doesn't have the trait. Secondly,Alien DNA is an actual permanent health buff & gives you a larger buff than Serpents Embrace plus you get an oxygen boost as well,all for just the price of less effective usage from healing items,which can be easily negated. I use both Alien DNA & Serpents Embrace but i would only advise Serpents Embrace for role playing purposes but it appears you are a bit confused about what each trait actually does,which is understandable! o7🚀
@rparavicini7 ай бұрын
@@paulchurchill5045 yes, you are right, its in game hours not real world hours, but the point still is, how often do you need the additional health and o2, after sleeping, but before grav jumping?

People keep playing Starfield like its a damn live service game and then proceed to complain that its boring and easy. Well duh, when you exploit the XP glitch, use the most OP weapons and armor combo. Gear out your Companion to be a demigod. Then you use the most OP powers... Of course its going to trivialise the game. Ive been really enjoying role playing as a Va'ruun Ronin.

Are you kidding me? The followers have gotten _better_ somehow? In this game they will literally walk into your mining laser while you're using it. They still move into your line of fire while you are actively shooting and I can count all the times any of them actually killed an enemy on one hand. The only thing they are any good for is being on your ship crew, otherwise they are less than useless. They can't sneak, they go full agro at the first opportunity and are then actively counterproductive in combat. They are the worst set of companions in any Bethesda game to date. Despite the decent voice actors they are blandly written and unengaging to top off their uselessness.

So is making the decision that lets Sarah die a bad one? I don't know, I was kind of getting tired of her nagging.
@danielhogan62555 ай бұрын
it isnt guaranteed that its going to be sarah.. they killed my wife because i hadn't gotten close to anyone BUT her.. Full on went awol together... Then, when she was gone.. barett basically pushed my character out the way and acted like she mattered more to him than she did to my character. Then, seconds later.. immediately hands me some fetch quest about HIS dead partners apartment from a decade prior... While we are still standing over wife's freshly unalived body.. Which btw, HE convinced me to not help her and stay at the lodge.. Needless to say, any characters annoying after that... Wont lie... Ive wanted barett dead since then. But since its not going to naturally happen, im stuck with him. My advice? If they annoy you, marry them first and stay loner like i did outside of that marriage.. Its for the best. Dont pick "the one" just yet..

#5 hired crew: yeah, just don't do it. Unless you want to go pirating and don't want to hear Sarah complain, hired ship crew aren't worth it. There are some higher level NPC's out there you can recruit as well, and they are more worth it. Unnamed crew disappear completely if you downsize your ship for any reason. Ie go from a crew size of 8 to 2, and 4 of the crew will get kicked out. if they are unnamed, hired crew, they will just stay gone and you've lost your investment. They no longer show up in the crew management screen to be reassigned. Whereas, named crew, even non-Constellation members, will just go back to where you found them and can be re-assigned.

It's AndreYA, not Andredja or whatever. It's a Serbian & Slovenian name. And yeah Bethesda voice actors have no idea how to pronounce it either.
