When I was in US , in one of my doctor’s visit he wouldn’t stop taking about Slumdog Millionaire. He talked in a very derogatory way and looked at us as if we all came from that life. I have respect for a slum life and the humanity and greatness that rises out of it. But that is not what India in its entirety is. Our experiences are very diverse. Foreigners have a homogeneous experience of life and culture and easily become judgemental

Ghat is a hindi word. It means range of mountains. These destinations were not that popular among the westerners simply because the Hospitality industry was not that advanced in India compare to the western destinations you mentioned. Primarily because India was a poor nation after independence. The local citizens couldn't afford expensive facilities and hence businesses never cared. Now that some wealth has grown...in the past 10+ years the hospitality has improved. Better hotels, restaurants and other commute facilities. Locals are also looking for better places to stay and more business are investing for better facilities. Next react on Sikkim and Northeast India......those places are raw and beautiful. Even many Indians haven't visited there.

Yes, Rick - it is quite intentional. And it's okay. Anyway. I live in Bangalore (South India) and most of these places are quite near from here, particularly Ooty, Coonoor, Chikmagalur, Kodai, Munnar.. even Goa. And since I work with tea, I pay frequent visits to the tea estates of Coonoor and Munnar. One specialty of the tea estates in India is that they have fantastic Tea Bungalows - which are at least a hundred years old - where you can stay; and these are situated amidst lush tea gardens. So, when you are planning your South Indian trip (whenever that is), I shall be happy to show you around, and if interested take you to one of the tea estates where you can stay in a Tea Bungalow and sip some gourmet / artisanal teas as well. :)

The camera doesn't capture the beauty like your own eyes do. I visited ooty once and I was mesmerized by the forests and wildlife there too. Also when you travel through the ghats during autumn its the most beautiful picture. Whenever travelling, the small streams which fall throughout your journey and the foggy weather is really beautiful. When you travel through mahableshwar ghats during rainy or winter season you will have to put on your headlights of your car continuously throughout your journey. Its so foggy that you can't see anything infront of you. As much beautiful it is, its dangerous too. But you know what, its worth it. Should definitely give it a try.❤️❤️

The best time to visit south Indian hill station is from sept to december after south west monsoon stops and everywhere its full of small streams, waterfalls and lush green hills...
Very few information about western ghat.. there is way more to cover like Radhanagari wildlife sanctuary, Doodhsagar Falls, Amboli, Anshi National park, Chandoli National park, number of forts and many more....

These places are quite beautiful year round, but if you want to visit when they are really lush and green, you should time it right after the monsoons.

There are plenty of places missing in that list, Karwar in Karnataka, Ratnagiri in Maharashtra, Panchgani in Maharashtra to name just a few. There are plenty of movies that have been shot in these locations. Most of these locations are in fact filming locations. There is a Fahad Faasil movie that is picturised in Idukki. Sadma by Sridevi and kamal hassan was in Kodaikanal. Many classic Malayalam films were in these places.

The thought that India is desert like is because Rajasthan is one of the few states that has gotten a lot of international coverage. And Rajashtan is hot and has a desert. Also has that yellow overtone. Like the instagram filter called Jaipur. And it's true, not many people count India into the "beautiful travel list" Also, Western Ghats is a must visit during monsoons. Absolutely gorgeous!

I don't know how come Wayanad , silent valley , Periyar wild life sanctuary etc , which is in Kerala are not in the list . Infact these places should be there on top of the list

Yeah, 'Ghats' means hill-slopes. Just add 'Amboli' in Maharashtra to make it 10. There are two such major ranges in the southern part of India: The Western Ghats ranging from Northern Maharashtra to the meeting point of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, covering Karnataka and Goa on the way (Sahyadri range); with a 'gap' leading to 'Annamalai' range in Kerala that is home to some stunning and unique sites. The other - the Eastern Ghats - which are not as continuous as the former, run from Odisha down to Tamil Nadu covering Andhra Pradesh and Telangana (both sharing Hyderabad, for reference). Both the ranges are much older geologically than the Himalayas in the North (but not even its one-third in height). Highest peak in Sahyadri range is at 5400 ft (1646 m); while the tallest peak in all southern hills of India is 'Anamudi' in Kerala at 8842 ft (2695 m). Himalaya reaches as high as 29,029 ft ( 8,848 m)!

Probably most of the tourists..when they plan about India only the northern India parts..like the himalayas ..Taj mahal..will come into their mind and at least to south they may know about Mumbai bcz its the one of the biggest metro cities in south..but there is a heaven beyond Mumbai down to the tip of the south including Karnataka..Kerala and Tamil Nadu which is the heaven of greenishness in India...Only those tourists who once visited these southern states knows about the beauty of these places...u may not see big cities and Hotels like in the north..but if u want to taste the ultimate beauty of nature u have to come south - from Kerala

I loved it how they compared it with international tourism hotspots... Indians often underestimate how much travelling they could do inside their own country and have pretty much everything

Also earlier political dispensations, academicia and Bollywood tried to tie up India with the golden triangle and Taj Mahal only instead of showing a 360 degree view of the country. I am glad that now all the states/regions are coming out with these beautiful videos which truly showcases the diversity of geographical terrain, flora, fauna and not to mention the diversities in cultural practices, cuisine etc. By the way, most of these places are more beautiful than what you see in the videos.

@@DEEPAKKUMAR-kv7re I am sorry for igniting the regional feeling in you..
