@@jairomy7 is sufficient same like imps and with specialist they have 8 but if you fight on lava even 9 I am quite happy with it. Not the fastest but also not the slowest somewhere in the middle or the range I would say. Even so you need level 2 tower got them and if you get blind they are vicious as ef. You can blind trouble makers and whip weak ones while they try to play with imps. Nice 👌 They are perfect company for dogs.

In my opinion Pit lords are definitely one of the most useful lvl 5 units, you can make insane amount of demons from trash units and make practically unstoppable army

+Nonii92 I agree with you. I would say, Pit Lords are best of level 5 units. Even better than Mighty Gorgons. I was shocked, how they underestimated them, and put them to the last place (I don't still count conflux as expansion, that I accepted, I always play without it). Even 3DO put them at the number 1 place from 5 levels creatures. heroescommunity.com/viewthread.php3?TID=10977 When they are able to summon demon, you can count them, as 45 + 35 health creature, which can even split and move separately. Which gives them 80 effective health.

I'v played allot of inferno, but I'll rarely have the chance to make as many demons as I want to. the battles are usually over with most of my stacks still on the field. When I'm playing fortress, I never leave a hostile 7th lvl stack on the field regardless.

+Arni Geir Problem is, AI don't know to fight against might gorgon special. Of course, you need to protect your level 7 stack, so gorgons never attack it. You need to strike them with weaker units, so death stare slays only few weak units.

that's why fortress is all about positioning, and it's not like attacking them is easy, they still hit like a truck and tank even more. one well times haste, prayer or teleport and the enemy looses allot of dragons.

Their high growth rate makes them incredible against sieges and defending the best 3rd level unit in the game. Also their attack skill isn’t as low as this video would indicate.

Genies very good units. 2-3 groups of genies could put a magic to your titans: for example pray, fire shield and air shield. Its a great advantage. 3 good magic in our turn, without hero's magic. Genies is one of my favourite unit in the game

I agree with this list except maybe no 2-4. Now i dont say that Lich or Thunderbird are better/stronger than Minotaur however they are way more important for their faction. Thunderbird is the only flier in Stronghold and Lich the only shooter in Necropolis.

You are very right. I just put Minotaur at number 2 because of their good stats, 15 attack and defense and the damage is almost as high level 6 creatures, that is great for a level 5 unit. But Stronghold and Necro will have much harder time without Liches and the Thunderbirds than Dungeon without Minotaurs.

But they are still crap in comparison to other lv6 units. For instance Thunderbirds are not only needed for Stronghold but at the same time they are strong tier 5 unit.

I agree with Numbers 9, 7, and 6, 4-3 and 2-1 are swapped, but still pretty awesome, But I think Zealots are better than Dendroids. But regardless, you made a pretty good list and I commend you for that.

Thanks, I can see Liches and Thunderbirds being above Minotaurs but Gorgons are the definitive number 1's for me, their ability is too much. and yes zealots are more probably more useful than dendroids, but they die too quickly.

Not much to say here but I would rather switch dendroids and genies. Droids are powerful but pretty odinary and replaceable, oftenly used as a town guards only, while genies play a big role in the Tower's army and can be pretty useful in any other composition with their spells and pretty good speed.

I never found pit lords to be that useful to Inferno, expect for raising dead creatures as demons. Genies and dendroids are nicer additions to their towns IMO. And you are absolutely right about the thunderbird.

Yes I take into account many things not just how things will go 1 vs 1, if I did 1 vs 1 with just the raw power of every unit than the lists would have been different.

@@richiabosuli3193 (sorry for resurrecting) I would say that the pit lords should be much higher than dendroids and master genies. Because their demon summoning (usually called demon farming) is actually a huge thing. The only thing that keeps Inferno afloat against the other factions. Without demon farming Inferno is no-contest the worst (least powerful) town. The Pit Lords are not just useful, they are esential to Inferno. Tower and Rampart can do very well without genies and dendroids. If your ranking values highly the importance for it's own faction, then Pit Lords should be #2 IMO (Mighty Gorgons are just as esential, while also being the best level 5 creature stat wise). If it's only for combat ability, as an addition to any hero, then the Pit Lords are much more mundane.

My ranking: 1. Mighty gorgon (They are a huge reason foretress is my fav town. Tanky AF, with overall strong dmg. Death stare then comes in and just makes them murder any living 5-7 tier units. Still strong against elementals and necros, but not that great. Any units from 1-4 they also murder cuz they are much stronger. Slow.. but it can & must be fixed through spells.) 2. Thunderbirds (They can really take a beating. Highest speed in stronghold, and most useful units for stronghold untill behemoth. Has trouble for being thr only flier, but honestly thats not its own fault.) 3. Miniotaur king (A clear third. While more powerful than thunderbirds, they are a little more fragile, slower and cannot fly. Important for Dungeon power, but not essential. Always positive morale:) 4. Power lich (Neat ranged unit, able to dish out high dmg with cloud. A little slow for 5th tier, even as an archer. They are quite vulnerable, but a menace all the same. Essential for Necro.) 5. Pit lords (They whip with an above average dmg. A little lackluster in health and defences. Not that fast. Has demon summoning which alone can make inferno dangerous. I could see them at anywhere between 2-4th places because of demon farming.) 6. Master genie (Fast unit, able to buff and debuff which is decent. Solid dmg, but very vulnerable, can die quickly. Very useful for Tower, which lacks strong fliers.) 7. Zealot (An average shooter, dealing average+ dmg. Very vulnerable, but has no melee penalty. They are by no means bad, but they pale in comparison with the units above. Definetely good support for castle but not the hero.) 8. Dendroid guards (I wish I could place them higher, for their utility through roots makes them very useful. Best as guards. Tanky enough, decent dmg. Too slow for army in general but can turn the tide in big battles.) 9. Magma element (They are the only 5th tier that I don't consider good, the rest are useful++. Not high hp, low stats, low speed, low dmg. High growth, but it doesnt make up for its major flaws)

I agree with most of this but your zealot placement they always get wiped first turn and feel like a waste of money I never have any after a big fight I prefer dendoirds you get 8 instead of 6 that adds up fast

Props for replying I usually judge things on late game fights which is why I hate lizardmen so much. :( why cany fortress get a good archer. Credit for writing out such a well written response to an old youtube video this game brings back the feels especially dungeon and fortress I used to play fortress on realm of chaos a lot for the 2v3v3 with a friend

Gorgons are overpowered in early game, in mid-game and late-game there are better abilities. To be honest all fortress units are made for small maps, 'cause units and buildings are cheap, also there are no requirements for buildings to be built and heroes have less movement penalty so they can explore map faster.

I watched 7 list videos. 5 of them are great 1 is ok but this list is totaly shocked me. Yes Gorgons are may be the best in level 5 but Liches are the best archers in the game (with areal afect) and expect Thunderbirds none of this creatures get close enough to them to hit in a fight. Also Zealots are prety strong. For me top 4 must Gorgon, liches, thunderbird and zealots. Minatour and dendroids cant even get close to hit zealots or liches in even numbers..

Probably true on the magma-dendroid. Gorgons are very good yes. They probably are the best level 5 creature but I just thought it was too close at the time. Fast flying troop and slow walk troop I think was the deciding point. 11 speed and very similar stats. But yes, lots of mighty gorgons are great.

It depends on how we decide what is 'better'. For example- many people play with autocombat- and then ranged units become way more important, because they do not die in easy encounters, while- genies, rocs and other fast melee units- do. Another important thing- the size of the game map, and difficulty level. If map is medium sized and at highest game difficulty- then ability to build unit early and cheap becomes much more important. For example, Rocs are great because they are strong, but also because they need only goblin guild and wolf riders as prerequisites, and also open the path to building behemoths early. Gorgons, on the other hand, will often have less impact in early/mid game, because Fortress will often go for archers, wyverns and hydras first, and only then build up the castle in full.

The only thing I want to say is that deciding on what's better should be exclusive to humans, not to AIs (autocombat is controlled by the AI) because humans make better strategic decisions and thus what's better in a human's pov has bigger impact on a battle / game than what the AI "sees" as better
