20 years ago a did board game about HOMM by myself, but it took year to do, it contained 1 big map, 2-3 battlefields. New army of Japanese in it, with ninjas, shoguns, Dragons.

@@DadsGamingDK First of all, I did not know how to do 'game engine' to play it, it took time to think. Then, it took time to draw all of units, portraits, castles, and I did not good at arts. A did many of board games, but in genre Beatemup, like streets of rage and golden axe. After it, I did modern Heroes, about street wars between street gangs.

We also did a handmade board HOMM-3 with my friends in the country in summer. Maps drawn with pencils on several A4 sheets, small cards with resources and monsters and locations like mills, mines etc, and thick copybooks to put down statistics: current armies, resources, heroes levels and stats … :-) Then one summer Egor brought PC from Moscow to the country. And so our papers turned into useless piles 😅

I built one too. Couldn't get the battle system simplified tho. My maps were hand drawn on grid paper. They followed the look of the map editor. structures were written abbreviated into the squares, treasures, resources too. Monsters were written in as a code L3-F for level 3 monster roll d8 for type, few roll for d6 amount. Fights took way too long because when you use the games math it takes forever even on a calc. I thought about just loading values into an Excel sheet but never got to it.

Yeah seems odd, we know the guys at Archon spend a lot of time talking to Ubisoft to get permission to use the IP. Which then resulted in a rather successful KS campaign, maybe Ubisoft should try the same 😝😎

Other than actually being an awesome adaptation of the original PC game, it is indeed also a very nice collectible. We're seing a lot of old games either being adapted to board games and old board games being relaunched. We have just recorded a video with a board game from 1986 which have relaunched with its 5th expansion. Seems like people are really into retro games these years.

it's very inspiring that my favorite game is now available in such a wonderful tabletop version, taking a break for your eyes from playing it on a PC or Steam console, you can gather around the fireplace in your family castle with friends and family and continue playing the tabletop version, and then put everyone to bed, turn on the PC or console and continue playing on the screen :-) This is definitely a good investment!

Agreed, even though you can play the PC version hotseat or even online, this just brings everybody together in another way. This also one of the main reasons we're in to board games at all. The social interaction and ping pong around the table is something we didn't really experienced when playing on PC or Console, again you can do it hot-seat though.

Yeah! The PC game was fantastic, and this is an amazing adaptation of that game. We do think the marketing and publicity was a bit on the low end for the first KS campaign, but this time around Archonhave really managed to get the Gamefound campaign out wide. Hopefully this results in most people interested in the game, having a chance of getting it, including the limited edition boxes and exclusive expansions.

I actually put this game to paper 15 years ago. Interesting how they did it. I feel like I had better maps. But I could never settle on a simplified battle system. A fight would last like 45 minutes because all of the calculations each hit.

looks well put together. I almost backed this, I was going to be all in until I saw more on the gameplay, and then decided it wasn’t for me. I instead went with Adventure Tactics as my big box game, and so far I’m not regretting it. I hope you do end up enjoying this though.

This is an awesome looking game, with solid gameplay, but it is mostly an very good 1 player solo game, 2 player "skirmish" game, and maybe 4 players in alliance mode (we haven't tried that yet)

i like the idea of these games in theory. in practice its an hour of setup and putting away every single time, and you won't get a game done in one session, so multiply that by however many sessions it takes and.... well... you better really enjoy setting up and tearing down and sorting and organising everything because that's what you'll spend most of the time doing.

This is one of those games that really benefit from a good storage solution. The big box inserts is pretty descent but there is way better custom inserts. We can setup the game for 2 players in around 20 minutes with the big box inserts, and tear down in about the same time. We will noemalyy play one or two games in a single session.

I will most likely split the game up between the game I am playing and leave the rest of the components in the original box. The fact that you cannot sleeve the cards and store them in the box makes using a seperate box necessary.

There is a lot of components such as the miniatures which is not used unless you play clash or alliance. On the topic of sleeved cards, it is possible to store all the cards sleeved in the box, you just have to use sleeves of 60 microns or less. We have all ours sleeved with sleeve kings.

Interesting enough, most of the big games have dome of the smallest rulebooks. An interesting set of big games is are the ones with simple rules, where more rules is added through additional components as you progress. Oathsworn is an amazing game which uses this principle.

We have punched everything out and played the game several times. The worst part was the missing guide to how everything should be stored in the compartments (especially with sleeved cards), but after reaching out we got a pretty good idea of how to pack everything without any problems. Thanks for the question. The board game is a bit different in this way, as you only have access to your chosen faction and its town board. Capturing a other factions town doesn't give you access to use their town board, and the player losing their town doesn't lose access to their buildings and can still hire units.

For this box you need 661 standard size card sleeves. If you want to store all the cards back in the box sleeved, the thickness should not be more than 60 microns. We have sleeved ours with Sleeve Kings standard sleeves.

You're pretty close, it captures the original feeling of waiting 2 hours for the other players to take their turns 😛 All jokes a side the game playes pretty fluid and takes around two hours for 2 players, not using the battlefield expansion

This is a special collectors edition, but it wouldn't surprise us if another version of it comes along as they release the next 3 expansions.

This version was originally available after the KS ended as part of the post campaign pledge manager. Latest it have been available as part of the new expansion crowfunding campaign on Gamefound. Wheter it will be available again at some point is hard to say, and we will just have to wait and find out.

It was around 180$ and it was as far as we know sold world wide, it isn't available at the moment, but we guess an updated version will be available as more expansions is released.

Yeah, this is kind of a bummer. Hopefully they learn for future releases. On the upside we're seing some amazing custom inserts for both the individual boxes and the big box, which allow for premium sleeves.

Hi, there is several expansions and this is the complete box incl. the limited Tower Expansion. As of right now you should be able to order the game in most LFGs or directly from Archon Studio. Though it's probably better to wait for the new KS campaign for the next 3 expansions, as it looks like it will be possible to get all in a limited box like the one shown in this video.

When the KS campaign got its pledge manager launched, Archon Studio came out with an offer of either the individual boxes or one big box. Also the offered plan miniatures or pre-shaded miniatures.

I do not understand why there is no remake for this game. Everything can be as before with minor upgrades (graphics, artifacts, powers, creatures, castles etc). It would be great

They tried with their HD versions, but it was not done with the needed respect to the original, but agreed a actual remake, where everything stays as is would be awesome.

Unfortunately this is a special edition with all the expansions from the KS campaign (minus Stronghold). So as of right now you can only buy the core game and the different faction expansion as individual boxes. But we hope to see a revised version of this box as the next three expansions are released.

It is an amazing looking game, and the price was fair compared to the size of the game and the amount of components. But again if you don't have the time to play it, then no game is worth the price.
