When my 2nd former PT reacted in a condescending way when I shared what my body signalled I needed, I knew I was on my own. I was not there to feed his frail ego or be under his control in any way. How can he possible know better, while all he came up with was some standard approach. Still hate his exercises. We should trust the brilliance of our own body, always. Truth be told, I did learn a lot because he annoyed me so much; reversed psychology 😅 Glad to see a PT like yourself being thorough and sincere. This video was really helpful and enjoyable 🙏

stunningly accurate!!! Agree on all 9 points. Speaking from my own expirience (doing everything for years until ‘breaking point’ at the end - big extrusion). Scheduled for surgery. Changed perspective (based on Dr. Charile’s videos) and started doing ‘nothing’. Gave my body time to recover AND mind to ‘reconfigure’. One year later pain and pills free. Not there yet, but I would say 95%. My surgeon ageed - ‘do nothing’ when he saw progress prior to operation. BIG TNX to wisdom shared by Dr. Charlie.

What I've learned.. When I found you, I discovered that clam shells eased the hip pain, a week later was gone. Your wife demonstrates how to get out of bed. Saw a video on how to properly stand from a seated position. Discovered goblet squats. Stopped cracking the spine. The healing process was long and now I can function better. Thanks Charlie, you may never know the magnitude of what you've done for me!!!

Years ago, I read an article who experienced pain differently. They hypothesized that pain was a matter of perception, How you perceive pain determines how of if you experience it. The article used itching as an example. Stop acknowledging the itch, and it disappears. This seems difficult until you realize that when you itch, and your child cries, you forget about the itch because you are distracted. This can happen with pain if you distract yourself in some way. I did this when I broke my collar bone when I substituted examining and describing the pain for medication. I also did this in a colonoscopy when I eschewed anesthetic by watching the film above me which guided the doctor through my intestines. It worked for me.

I'm a practicing OT and have so much trouble relating this AMAZING information to the pcp on my team who is very biomechanically minded. Does anyone have tips for communication strategies within the interdisciplinary TEAM environment? I find the ego of the doctors I work with keep them from listening to this information.

Hey! Thanks for watching. Your challenge is universal. I prefer to show vs. tell nowadays. Showing results, creating content that helps shift beliefs, and most importantly of all... keep showing up. How could you "show" your interdisciplinary team that the information you have is valuable? Communicating with proof and evidence of how these concepts really change people's lives (get results) is more powerful- in my experience- than trying to sell them on the ideas. Make sense? Feel free to email me personally if you'd like- charliejohnsondpt@gmail.com Keep up the good work! Dr. Charlie

Agree completely. Doctors can be very black and white so do some research on PubMed in mind-body connection and show him/her a systematic review and do an in service. On the patient side, use pranayama breathing to “cool off” the sympathetic nervous system and reactivate the parasympathetic nervous system. Lastly, my experience, do not tell your patients that this is mind over body because they will read as “it’s all in my head” and you’ve lost the fight. Good luck! -Martha , DPT

Maybe I’m old fashioned. But I think “butt” is such a crude word.
