That was a good "Story Time with Jonny Mopar". Do more of those. A car's history is always interesting.

Having built a big block A body myself. I put a mildly built 440/727 with C body oil pan in my 1967 Dart 270. First off I made my own "Elephant Ear' out of T6061 3/8" Aluminum plate sandwiched at the water pump. Cutting out all the engine stands for header clearance. Put 1975 Dart front disc brakes and spindles and proportion valve using a 1968 manual M.C. for a Dart GT also running manual steering gear box. 3 Row 68 Chrysler New Yorker radiator, opening up the core support for size. 1970 Duster 8 3/4" rear-end with a 489 case 3:23 S.G. using M.P. spring relocation kit. Using Resplined C body axels, backing plates, brakes, drums etc. Running 15" cop car rims with 215/60/15 BFG's In the front and 275/60/15 BFG's in the rear with rolled rear wheelwells.

That’s the ticket. I like your style Daniel. I’m doing the C body axle trick on my 72 Charger using a 64 B body housing.

I freaking love this car! Can't wait to see it go down the strip! If my 4 door Dart can do a 8.01 in the 1/8th then I know your car will get there easily !
@JonnyMopar2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Duddie. It ended up going 8.3. I know it needs to be dialed in. And 8.0 is impressive. Good job man. Loved the NNN videos. Looks like it was a good time.

Cool to see the way you did your duster. Very similar to the way I did my GTS… Your episode was very reminiscent of the one I did a while ago on my car. Awesome!

Thanks Mike. Your GTS is bad ass. My alternate title was Making an A body into a B body. Lol. That’s more or less what’s happening to get bigger tires and engine in it. Lol.

the mods my dad did on his Duster was a set of 14x10 nickleplate centerline mags front and rear, Gabriel Hi-Jackers air shocks in the rear with tall lift kit shackles, Motorola C.B radio, Craig 8-tracks FM/AM radio, universal manual extended antenna with spring load, and lasthe install a set of duel 40 inch lenght Blue-Streak Glasspack mufflers with 2 1/4 turn-down in front the rear axels. that is all he had on it.

Nice common sense build Jonny done well, I really like the cal tracs, so easy to use and adjust. Just curious is the orange box one of the old originals? Also those lower comp 440s like the mech advance in quick around 3000, you have lighter springs in dist?
@JonnyMopar2 жыл бұрын
I think that Orange box is a newer vintage but it might be from the 90’s, I’ve switched it out last time I had an issue so not sure where I left off. I’ll be upgrading later. And adding the Cal Trac Bars later and some other things. I want to base line it here and leave room for improvement. Should be good content squeezing some tenths out of the car.
@maximuswedgie51492 жыл бұрын
Very cool video, I’ve always wanted you to do one of these. I purchased Cal Tracs with the split mono leaf. Can I remove the CalTracs themselves ? I wanted a more stock look when I roll with my white walls next year. (Sleeper)
@JonnyMopar2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, you can. Call Calvert and tell them what you’re doing and they’ll send you the spacers to take off the plates and bars.

I'm doing 12.42 with shumacher headers, don't worry until low 11s in the 1/4
@JonnyMopar2 жыл бұрын
Nice. And thanks Karl. The Duster went 8.3. Sure feels like it’s making more power than my Coronet that went 8.1 in the 1/8th. I think there’s a couple of things going on, nothing major, I’m still really happy with the car. Video comes out Thursday on the day at the drags.
@joegallo96582 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't use those headers on a BB, I've been building and racing BB A bodies for years, take my word you'll benefit from a good fenderwell header like Hooker. Depending on your altitude, I'm sure you'll get in the 7s, the Edelbrock carb ain't helping either, I was running 6.9s in a mild build in a 75 duster, factory 906 heads, xe284h cam, 750dp, M1 intake, PTC 3000 stall, 4.10 gears, 1.5s on the 60ft. Got to love your Mopars, nice duster, let us know what it runs.
@JonnyMopar2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Joe, yeah the headers are not optimum for drag racing but despite its appearance I was putting it together for the street, we’ll sort of. I guess I never went all in one way of the other. Yeah, the fender well headers are awesome except how they go under the car outside the frame rail. Dennis’ Duster has them. They scrape on everything. My Duster ended up going 8.3 but I think there’s more there I can tap into, video comes out Thursday 3pm pacific.
@JonnyMopar2 жыл бұрын
And damn, 6.9 is impressive.

Street tires stock convertor and a tranny that won’t manually shift 🤦🏻♂️ Ruben, he’s killing me.
@JonnyMopar2 жыл бұрын
Ha! Lol. You must be getting through to him 55. I just talked to him yesterday and he said he’s taking a convertor to get build to 3k stall. And he texted a group of us to keep an eye open for a ratchet shifter and manual valve body on Black Friday sales. He didn’t mention slicks yet but yes, he needs that too. If it helps ease your mind, he was pretty happy Friday bumping up the timing and going faster every round till he went too far. I think he’s got the racing bug.
@EvansBrosRacing2 жыл бұрын
Need to order those Cal Trac Bars ! do you at least have a snubber ? and is the pinion tipped down some ? I don't know how a mono leaf will work with a snubber ? It sounds like the guy screwed you on the brakes and maybe he's making up the story about the other people screwing him . I wouldn't trust anything he said after he did that to you . I have had so much stuff like that happen , and that is why you need everything in writing , even a text message or an email is having it in writing . Ask all the details in advance so they cant pull chicken shit stuff like that . I wish you were closer , I have an engine , trans , and converter ready to drop in that bitch ! I look forward to the videos at the track . Keep up the good work , "Purple Truck Jon " . We knew so many people named John , we had nicknames so My bro would know which one I was talking about .
@JonnyMopar2 жыл бұрын
Lol. I like the Nick names. That’s how I remember people best, by what they drove. I’m pretty sure he was telling the truth about the previous owners. But yes, it was chicken shot what he pulled robbing parts before I picked it up. You shouldn’t have to write everything down about what’s included. Everything there seems to be reasonable unless you as the seller explicitly say that’s not included. Then yes, it writing is a must cause people forget or glaze over what was discussed. Yep, have a snubber. Mono leafs work the same as regular leafs. I think they’re stiffer though. I have not checked pinion angle. But I think it’s worth doing. Thanks MadCowl.
