Watched few of your videos on Product Design and, I am glad that you are giving clarity to the people about the field. I am a product designer as well and to be honest, I would say no design schools teaches you how to design it’s all about how you grasp and how you look at the things around you and I also feel one can educate themselves in terms of softwares by taking online sessions and building an impactful portfolio. I did my foundation year in design at an Indian design school but didn’t like the way of teaching which restricted my imagination then, I went abroad to complete my undergrad in product design although, I was happy with the course but after completing it, I feel anyone who is interested in the field of design can learn it through an online platform as well. So design schools barely matters if you have an impactful portfolio.

There are 5 campuses for NID offering BDes... Ahmedabad, vijaywada, kurukshetra, bhopal, jorhat... (Earlier they had Bdes In ahmedabad campus only and others gave GDPD, Now all of them are offering Bdes from this year onwards) This year there are total of 425 seats (125 in Ahmedabad and 75 each in the remaining 4 NIDs)

Gujarat is hub of art and culture, There is emerging Government design institute called MRID of MSU Baroda offing B.Des and M.Des in 4 speciation. The institute officialy started in 2013 and has faculty from NID and abroad. It now accepting students from all over the country. The best thing is this is cheapest government design college in India(except DOD IIT). Another advantage it has over NID is that it is very connected to indian art and craft which is unique. The college is gonna make India and South Asia's biggest art museum. Kudos Also, there is DTU DOD which is comparable to NID and IITs, It's faculty is from IIT and few from NID but it doesn't have good infrastructure and is owned by Delhi government which takes 85% state students. In my view there are 5 good government college in India -DOD/IDC IIT -NID -NIFT -MSU -DTU Some good private colleges (if you can afford) -UID -MIT ATD Pune -WUD PLEASE MAKE DETAILED VIDEO ON THIS COLLEGE.🙏😌 Looking forward for your video!

nift is the least affordable college. not just the fees but also the cost of living and the cost of materials that go into learning like the fabrics and the lil booklet they ask you to make sometimes. a lot of companies literally say they are only looking for people who have graduated from nift when it comes to working in the fashion industry. however, the learning experience is extremely good. there will never be a regret in my mind regarding choosing nift.

Nice video, probably active participation from various Design communities could widen the reach of design thinking and approaches in the overall applicability and deliverability of the design for innovative tangible products. Also at an Institutional level like merging NIDs, NIFTs, Design Institutes/Colleges for a Center of Excellence (CoE) could go in a long way to meet the aforementioned objectives/goals.

There is one Minerva College at Talagaon, near Pune. The college had no building of its own. It was functioning in a matchbox like building. I knew that there was no teaching staff in most of the working days. The college owner was a well known sugar factory owner. He transferred the money from college fund to his factory fund. Pune University also found made negative remarks on the functioning of the college. But money played a role and Minerva College is still functioning. Most of the students come here, just to boast an architecture degree. I don't presume that all the private colleges are of the same feather.

Hey Aditi....I think as an IDCian from IIT BOMBAY.....I will be able to answer this better..........I would also like to add few points to what you said regarding IDC.......... Ya...It's true that IDC is more inclined towards research side of design where it's main focus is towards hitting the core philosophy of that design challenge......hence 50 percent is research ( technological factors, user research, questionnaire sessions, etc etc)...+ 50percent is creativity ( idea generation, Sketching, physical modelling etc)..........but having said that, it doesn't not compromise in anyway on design ....I would say ...it gives enough scope for a student to explore creativity along with technology......it's not that the final projects has to be mechanically workable stuff.....it depends on the student basically.........but the juries and presentation are literally tough.........I mean it's very very hard to sit Infront of professors from several departments ( including engineering department of IIT Bombay)...and making them understand your work.......I mean I loved it .........if I always had to choose between one ( NID and IDC)....I will go for IDC...........so basically IDC wants to strengthen your roots .................now coming back to NID, it has few things that lack in IDC and few drawbacks too.........i will answer from my M.des in IDC point of view..... . . . Good things ----1- a student is on their own...they have complete freedom to choose their topics mostly which is quite not allowed in IDC unless student can present valid reasons...... 2- the whole course is 2.5- 3 years.....but in IDC it is 2 years......so basically here in NID you will have more time to explore 3- the Design exposure you will get in NID is slightly better than IDC ....since it is a pure design institute Now...some drawbacks: 1- there are issues with foundation knowledge because research is not as strong as IDC....well it's a controversial statement .....that's my personal view 2- extremely high fee in NID.....but in IDC it's very less+ u will get stipend every month------ this stipend thing is only for m.des students 3- the shadow of IIT BOMBAY lacks for NID......IIT BOMBAY is a brand behind IDC guys ....also the fests IIT BOMBAY.....gives IDC guys huge scope to sell and show their talents...... At the end...I would add.....both college are at equal level somehow ....but again....they need to again push extremely hard to match the international standards .....this is what lacking in both colleges....... But definitely a good place for anyone who wants to start their journey from INDIA........no doubt there are other nice colleges too like IIT gwahati, IISC bangalore etc regards ( Not interested to reveal my real name).... He/him

Hey, great video breaking down the rather obscure situation with public info on undergrad design colleges. What do you think about the Indian Institute of Design (ISDI) in Mumbai? My sister's application got accepted but there are a few red flags about this college: 1. No association with UGC, only a certificate is awarded at the end of the course 2. Extremely high fees in the ball park of 20 lakhs 3. Unclear relationship with their tie-up with NY Parsons. They have put a deadline on reserving the seat before 20th Feb, by paying a 70k (non-refundable ofc 😅) fee. Your insights will be greatly appreciated 😊
