Hi, I got 99.95 %ile in Cat'23, got into IIM Bangalore. It has been a struggle ever since. Despite doing extremely well academically in the first term, I couldn't even get a single shortlist till now because Companies pay high emphasis on Diversity and your past scores. That is reason IIMB selection process has been designed that way
@Shahvez-jr1nn18 күн бұрын
In the West MBAs are a lot more uncommon. Universities and business schools don't just let anybody pay money and complete their MBAs. They understand that the power of an MBA is its exclusivity and the high reputation of the awarding university or business school. You have to be the best of the best of post graduate students to be accepted into it. Also you have to be solidly pursuing or have had in a career in business already in order to be eligible to do an MBA. In India and other South Asian countries you have someone who's done for example chemical engineering or psychology or multimedia studdies then doing an MBA! What the hell do those fields of graduation have to do with pursuing an MBA? Plus in Indian colleges, universities and business schools which lets face it are rather low quality anyone can sign up for an MBA as long as they have money to pay for it. I've been to India a few times and it seems like even the rickshawalla, panipuri and panwalla have an MBA for Christs sake. And when you question these MBA holders specifically about things like business development strategy, etc they don't know shit! They can at best just rote repeat words they've learnt in books without any comprehension of what they mean or their practical implications or applications! You change the context of your question to one not directly taught to them then they can't give you a correct answer derived logocally from first principles! It's a joke...... THEY are a joke!

My honest opinion is that MBA as a degree in itself is useless. I prepared for GMAT , good a decent score and got selected in a top university abroad for their 1 year MBA which I found way better than the IIM's. But then I have decided to pursue computational mathematics and programming which was always my passion in engineering. This has taught me more skills and opened more doors than any top tier MBA can ever do. As someone wisely said "A MBA is just a costly networking event with extra steps."

Foreigner in India here! I am a CEO for a foreign company in India for the last 6 years. Have this position in India for two companies now. I don’t care if employees have a MBA or whatever. The problem I see is that Indian students know everything, but they are not able to connect the learned in real life. Education and culture is failing you. All of the students are school smart, but are not able to implement it. In my personal opinion only 1 out of 100 can compete to a western student in real life applications. They are trained to be submissive mules
@nayaknaresh2 ай бұрын
It’s not just submissive mules who can’t define their boundaries, it is also the inability to connect and sequence tasks to get the job finished. The boss has to sequence and connect it for them, basically tell them everything to get the job done, basically micromanaging. Therefore the micromanagers qualify as bosses big time. The concept of initiative is also non existent along with the ability to follow process. Work isn’t process driven rather impulse driven.

Agree. Indian employer here. The obsession on marks is crazy and people have a tendency to equate it with ability. Original thought is not rewarded (in fact it is often penalised), though rote learning is (which is why they *seem* to know everything). There is also a tendency of worshipping credentials. I have stopped looking at academic credentials at all and use how CVs are presented to shortlist recruits now.

Counter argument to anything below tier 1 MBA is not worth it. I went to a tier 2 Bschool post Btech and spent ~15lacs for my MBA. My first job paid me ~11lacs and in 2.5 years I was able to get ~25 lacs. My first job after Engineering would have paid be ~3-4 lacs and today I would have made 12-15 lacs maybe. So I got a 2x jump with an MBA. This trend also applies to most of my batchmates who are earning anywhere between 15-40 lacs today. What I'm trying to say here is that the growth post MBA is good for most average folks out there. Chasing the IIM dream is good, but many people are better off getting an MBA from a decent bschool. I don't understand how can u do an MBA, study about various case studies when u have never worked in a corporate, Most of my friends who are doing MBA are the ones who didn't want to work hard in their respective kind of escapism from what u are doing, overEngineering of engineers is definitely an issue, but u can't take out what the LLB students do? Most of the top tier NLU students prefer doing an MBA rather sitting for on-campus placement. If u ask a college graduate who is unemployed what are they doing they are either studying for CAT or preparing for the government exam, if this rule of mandatory work experience is implemented we can see a little change in no. of unemployed people

I did my MBA from IIM Shillong. Yes the numbers in brochures are inflated but the point on basic salary is not valid. My basic salary is currently about 30% of my overall inhand compensation. Not sure why that is the case Also, diversity is a double edged sword - yes merit is better than diversity for diversity’s sake, but diversity is also appreciated in the job market and in corporate as well. This is true to the extend that few B schools boast of having the best diversity. For example, I remember speaking to NMIMS folks during mba how the girls on campus got the best offers even though they weren’t the most meritorious - but that’s what the companies wanted to hire, so who are we to judge merit just by CAT score? Also, I’m not an engineer or from a fancy undergrad but I would be in the top 10% of my batch easily.. CAT can’t be treated as the best benchmark of smarts.. I know a person with 99%ile get a one year repeat because he wasn’t that good in academics and wasn’t very disciplined

1) B Schools are only concerned about average salary. Once 50% of the batch is placed they won't be bothered about the quality of companies coming next. They will allow companies to offer any package. Even at IIM Bangalore, the lowest package can dip to 4 LPA. 2) Also, the colleges consider total offers in counting the placement. If the batch has 100 students, and 120 job offers but only 80 students are placed, the B School will notoriously ask those leftover students to opt out as they are not concerned about placing all students and they will show 100% placements as already they have received 100+ offers. 3) MBA is just glorified sales. Most profiles are Banking/Insurance sales only 4) For an IT employee, especially the general one, it's far better to move out of INDIA or switch jobs. So many countries offer free education and there is no reservation as well. Even in INDIA good software developers are getting 20 LPA easily after switching

Bro how do u even know that the lowest package of iim b may dip to 4 lakh?...a chunk of salary can be variable but definitely they will get paid...nobody from top 10 colleges get salaries that bad...if they get it or they are forced to opt out it's because they wasted their 2 years learning and doing nothing acting like a bum and nothing else...plus saying most profiles are banking/insurance is another bs u are talking about...and about software developers they either have to be good or have to be from top iits/nit or other colleges to get a high paying job...u have to have the skill...the no of software developers getting the amount vs total no of software developer that are there in the country is very less...so u can't blame MBAs...it's similar everywhere
@rh3342 ай бұрын
@@sphinxyt5583 My bro is studying in IIM and he knows the reality. There are both sides, some are getting crores and multiple offers while some are not even getting placed. Most companies ask GD, and in GD even if you are a talented gold medalist from IIT Delhi you will surely lose out to some good-looking girl from DELHI who may not be as intelligent as you but can speak better English and perform in GD. "nobody from the top 10 colleges gets salaries that bad" There are many. In fact, lots of students opt out because the placement committee refuse to bring companies to the leftover batch, the institute only shows average and highest salaries not the bottom 10% or the minimum salary. ".if they get it or they are forced to opt out it's because they wasted their 2 years learning and doing nothing acting like a bum and nothing else" MBA is just a grooming parlour, they are mere placement agencies, its curriculum is chilled, GPA doesn't matter in placements, subjects like marketing and open book exams so don't need much study, most students are focused on networking and extracurriculars, it's not Engineering where your intelligence matters and have tough exams where you are solving tough mathematics problems. MBA is all your looks, personality, and speaking skills. And people are placed because of the brand name only. "plus saying most profiles are banking/insurance is another bs u are talking about" Most profiles are Sales, ask any IIM guy. They can just glorify by saying different job titles but eventually, they all are selling products to customers. No one will hire them as CEOs or management teams straight away. I know one guy from IIM A placed in ITC, his job is to go to villages and acquire business. He is always travelling and living in villages where there is no access to electricity and water. Otherwise, you are hired in IT consulting and you will see some engineer with no MBA degree is also a Consultant and getting even more package than you, an IIM grad. So why waste 2 years , 30 lacs in an education where you and a tier 3 Engineer are on the same page. If your ego is hurt by doing small things like selling some insurance and you can't handle rude customers then better not go for MBA. "and about software developers, they either have to be good or have to be from top iits/nit or other colleges to get a high paying job'' You can learn coding, DSA, and upskill, so many moved from 4 LPA to 40 LPA. But in MBA you can't make frequent jumps or upskill. If you start with a very low package or you can't satisfy customers you will be stuck at the same level and can even get fired. "the no of software developers getting the amount vs total no of software developer that are there in the country is very less'' What about the MBAs. There are tons of MBA colleges in INDIA. I am sure there are enough tech jobs because of outsourcing but not everyone can become a manager or do sales. That's why an MBA degree is worthless nowadays. There is a much greater abundance of MBAs as compared to Software Engineers. More engineers are making 20 LPA as compared to MBAs making 20 LPA.

Hey loved the format of the video and kudos to the editing team. I just had my share my 2 cents since I was contemplating doing my MBA from India vs Abroad. 1) Indian MBAs (just as you mentioned) are ready to take in freshers without any work experience. MBA is not another degree program, people go there to actually engage and develop holistic perspectives and I fail to understand how freshers will be able to relate to the concepts and contribute in class. 2) Diversity is something that all MBA schools need and it is perfectly valid. The issue is when you bring in reservation based on caste, which so heavily influences the entry, that as a general candidate I don’t even want to get into that blood bath. 3) CAT percentile is everything! Can you imagine schools having 60-70% of the weightage on CAT score and merely 5% weightage on work ex and personal interests (like seriously?) 4) Mindset - MBA in India is just another way to get a job. People don’t really put in the effort to network and on developing themselves, rather just carry the brand and assume that they will get the job (Sense of entitlement is surprising) They will then again enter the rat race and compete for pointers just to get the best jobs. So my question is - where is the learning, collaboration, getting inspired by your cohort etc? All in all, the quality of input is equal to the quality of output!

IIM Bangalore has the best criteria, MBA should be done post some work experience, not as fresher. No wonder it produces max startups in the country. Now, to answer the questions in the description, MBA is surely the key to success even today in 2024, when market forces are down, even if done from a Tier 2 college. See even if you score 99.9 percentile, you might not be selected in the top IIMs but you surely would get selected in let's say MDI- Gurgaon or XLRI which are still in the league of the top tier B-Schools in the country. MBA will provide you with once in lifetime opportunity for a good life/life without financial worries. Don't let anyone else fool you

I think there's a major issue with the narrative surrounding IIMs in India-why is it always about CAT? People say it's because of exposure, but that's not entirely true. Plenty of other entrance exams lead to B-Schools that are on par with IIMs. Yet, those schools don't fit the IIT/IIM hype. Why not explore TISS, GMAT, NMAT, SNAP, or even XAT? And why isn’t FMS talked about more? It’s on the rise, with fees around just 2 lakhs and an average package of 34 LPA 😌. Before settling on an entrance exam or college, consider getting some proper counseling. There’s so much more to this than what meets the eye!

The channel's objective of helping MBA candidates make an informed choice is praiseworthy. However, I think this video presents a (very) myopic view. The value of an MBA goes beyond just placements and salaries-it's about developing critical thinking, management skills, and lifelong networks that help in long-term career growth. ROI shouldn't be measured just by the first-year salary; it's a long-term investment with benefits that unfold over time. Plus, diversity in MBA programs is growing, adding much-needed perspectives. Let's not dismiss the efforts of reputed institutions and the broader benefits of an MBA. #MBAEducation #CareerGrowth #LifelongLearning

With the internet at our disposal and so many ambitious people having ventures such as yours, any sort of Operator roles provide much more value and learning that an MBA could teach. Maybe the negative signalling of the Indian MBA will still have ambitious students undeterred and try their best, while eventually having a healthy fall in number of students. The interview is the fair chance, you prove your mettle or you're out. If you got 99.92 percentile and were not even given an interview call, I'd blame the system and say that's unfair. Loveena, also, you must understand that IIMs are institutions which place a lot of emphasis on holistic selection of candidates - which means the candidates must be academically smart AS WELL AS have personality. We see so many students get into the Engineering crowd while they do not even know why they want to do engineering, and its fairly simple, cross the minimum cuttoff and you're in. IIMs look for everything - which is why they have a three pronged admission criteria - CAT, WAT, and PI. Also, please broaden your sample size from just one candidate and get anecdotes from IIM alums as well - that would limit any self-limiting bias you may have when you conduct primary research. - IIM Grad.

This video is NOT full disclosure and is made from a biased lens. Viewers are made to see MBA from Anmol's eyes, when Anmol hasnt even done an MBA. Good video for someone who is looking at all perspectives but definitely its not a full disclosure. I am an IIM Ranchi graduate myself, and I can say MBA certainly adds value if you make an informed choice. Suggestions to make a FULL DISCLOSURE video : Get someone in your video who has done an MBA from premiere institute, get a representative from the institute admin as well (maybe ask why diversity quota is there), get recruiters/employers who can tell you if theres a difference between mba vs non-mbas and premier institute vs ordinary institute people Only then you can say its a full disclosure

In India, diversity just equals to more females. Having less number of males than females is being considered an achievement, even if there's just 1 male for 100 females that ratio will be applauded by everyone while the other way around is always regarded with sexism remarks. It's now prevalent everywhere, getting into MAANG companies (I have first hand seen this in campus placements, Males were asked very hard questions in interviews and still not getting selected while females were asked basic questions and getting selected) is way easier being a female while almost impossible being a male. This kind of hiring will in time lead to more discrimination rather than less when every female will be considered a diversity hire regardless of her skills. Rather than attacking the root cause of less female participation in STEM or management fields they are just giving cheat codes to one already in the system, it might work for the mean while but it will ultimately ruin the whole eco system.

In India women participation in workforce is only 23% less than Saudi Arabia. Only companies with preference for women are IT and Consulting companies and they are doing it to manage there skewed ratios over the years. Still in India in IT only 30% workforce is women. It's wierd af of men crying for women getting still less than 30% representation while being 50% of population. Only 30% of women give CAT, women's higher education is so much discouraged in India, the avg marriage age for women is 19. Yall crying over some effing marks given rightfully in country where women face systemic discrimination and makes such low percentage of workforce
@Adityagarg02 ай бұрын
@@Xoxososowi like I said in my comment, attack the root cause of the problem. Spread awareness for women's education and bit by bit change the mindset of population, problem with the current system is that it is not benefitting the females who are in need of it. While it is making it easier for women who are enrolled in institutions and already studying at par with males, level the playing field (hiring should be on the basis of skills) if a female is studying in the same class as me with the same resources as myself, why should they get advantage in hiring? This is just corporate bs to look good in public while not batting an eye on the real problem.

@@Xoxososowimate , hiring women just for the sake of "hiring women" is gonna throw dirt on the names of women who actually are capable and have merit to be in the institutions , diversity hiring can only take toh so far , the root cause of gender disparity in the job market has to be addressed, which is Neglected Education of the girl child and Cultural Stigmas , a little diversity is good like 20-80 , but if you overdo it then it leads to quality dilution and sooner on later it will come to bite the institution in the ass

If you cracked this exam you have to sit for interview and whole lot of things instead of doing MBA you should go for specialization course (fmr,ca,cs,cma,cfa etc).
