These high salaries are clearly for the highest IQ, highest potential candidates. These 'special' people can easily be identified - even if they at the start of their career. The main point is that they are VERY VERY VERY rare.

I have gotten these pays for a long time and I have a very average IQ. According to a quick google search there are about 120,000 FAANG engineers. Half of the companies on the list were not even FAANG companies, so there are lots more who get these high pays. I guess you can call that rare, but "rare" is relative.

You are correct. Half of the people are below average, and IQ for software engineers is above average. Peter Jordanson made a video about jobs and the required IQ. It's here in KZbin somewhere....
