It's not really fair to rate these on design with how well they fit into Hearthstone, because most of these are exercises on pushing Hearthstone past what it's comfortable with. With that in mind there should be a *creativity* rating, there are some fun cards that'd be good for a card game that wouldn't be "easy" to design for HS.

By his perspective on Infinite Toki, Ysera and the Lich King are terrible design. I assumed the Lich King actually added Death Knights, like Anduin or Jaina to your hand when I saw it. You know what cards like this do because the information is given second hand, and if it's okay for a couple staples it's okay for this

+LaserfaceJones but Ysera and Lich King can only give you cards from a very small pool (5 for Ysera and 8 for Lich King) whereas Infinite Toki would give you one of at least 30 cards, and would have to be updated every time a card is nerfed. Not to mention what would happen if nerfed cards were re-buffed/tweaked again.

My suggestion to fix Good Boy: add "restore it to full health" to it. Also Bloodthirsty Scarecrow is for polluting your opponet's Resurrection pool. I think that the victim should be a crow or something and make it a Beast so that it can also counter the Druid resurrect.

Turn 1 dire mole turn 2 double good boy have a 5 7 on turn three(you could have mountain giant turn three but it’s hunter). It’s better then double adapt! But that’s a single rare use for the card and it gives you no future play if it’s your starting hand

Old Warsong Commander wasn't a bad card on its own, you can easily take advantage of it in your turn and it's a must-remove threat every turn after that.

Graff_Zitel yes it did Originally but I think that was beta not release in fact I know that was beta because I got in the end of beta and it was already nerfed so i don’t think they would count it Which is one of trumps (and I agree) problems with the card. Any kind of line seems a little arbitrary and most of the pool would just be one mana discounts on existing cards most which are useless in most decks because most were nerfed because of the deck not that the card just won games. (I.e spiteful, lackey, bladefury, buzzard)

As for my understanding you can get one of the unnerfed cards, but you are not limited to them. So you have the whole pool of non standard cards, but with the difference that you could get the "old" version of a card, if it was changed at all.

I found a use albeit niche for the 4/6 summon a 1/1 attack it it punishes a few secrets, the return it to your hand rogue, the sonya shadow dancer return to hand (they get a 1 mana 1/1) the paladin return to hand.and a few hunter secrets.

Granor is pretty clear though. Granor is the one dealing the excess damage and it says all *other* characters, which with many cards that already exist, we know that means all characters that aren't the minion doing the damage. The grammar is fine.

While I also read it that way, I can understand the confusion. "Deal damage to X then deal damage to all others" sounds like dealing damage to everything that isn't X- the friendly minion you targetted- without context.

Cards can deal damage to themselves. If "other" is interpreted as "all minions other than the target", it would. Which matters, because if "other" refers to ONLY Granor, then cards with divine shield will get hit twice and die (by the precedent set by explosive runes)

Yeah, but if you're damaging anything besides that minion, the minion is already dead. It's deal 6 damage to something and EXCESS to everything else. If there is excess, the minion is dead (unless you're running divine shield in Warlock). It seems pretty clear to me, but this is exactly the kind of confusion Blizzard worries about and we meme about.

This is a common misconception that I wish people would stop repeating. Battlecries happen before "after play" effects like mirror entity, which causes people to think the minion hasn't entered play yet, but in reality hitting the board is the the first thing a minion does, and minions with global battlecries do need to specify whether they exclude themselves, like deathwing. As proof, observe that darkscale healer and fungal enchanter do heal themselves with their own battlecry (this can be seen more easily with auchenai soulpriest in play). So yeah like people have said, "other" isn't good enough for Granor since it has a target that makes it confusing

The warrior scarecrow card is decent tech against Ressurection Priest because it dilutes their pool of minions to summon from. With a few other additions to your deck with similar effects (the Ungoro taunt that summons raptors, the 1 mana 2/3 that summons a 1 drop for your opponent, etc) you could create a deck that can reliably fuck up a Big/Resurrection Priest's entire game plan, without much drawback on your own side.

for the wildsnack card: you could use it in genn hunter for discount on the mechanic for the scarecrow: theres frothing berserker, the 5 mana somethinghulk that buffs when you attack, battle rage, rampage, etcetcetc

The chronogiant card works well with deck of wonders. Deck of wonders can put up to 11 things in the history bar (over time) and each time someone attacks a tile is added to the bar. Ive had turns where ive gotten 20 things in the history bar, and thats one turn.

With varimathras you could effectively wait until turn 9. Drop it, seeing as how it is a battlecry and the effect is perminant. On turn 10 you could use if possible make it a 20 mana crystal turn. If it ever were printed people would find a way to make it OP OP.

Self-sacrifice can be completed by playing Jaraxxus and upgrades its hero power somehow. Normally, Jaraxxus' hero power cannot be upgraded but card doesn't say starting hero power so it should work in theory.

Yung Klepto tbf scarecrow would trigger frothing twice, whereas blademaster only triggers once. Definitely not worth putting in your deck just for that though.

From a flavor perspective I would make Timid Turtle a Palalock. So a Paladin that's also trying to be a Warlock. That's why they cast divine shield but also hurt them self.

Varimathras is probably the coolest custom card I've ever seen. I could really see it being printed. I feel like a more appropriate use of it would be somewhere around turn 8-10 and only end up using 2-4 extra mana crystals as part of a huge tempo swing instead of a flashy finish. I could see a lot of innovation coming from something like this, and it's a really exciting idea.

Reminds me of MtGs "Squandered Resources", one of my favorite cards. The artwork, the effect, the flavour text and the fact that the design department thought it would be a really weak card. Ah, the 90s. What an innocent time for ccg design :D Also the card was part of the amazing Cadaverous Bloom deck, one of the first to really change how a MtG game played out.

As a huge tempo swing, a single board clear is just too potent at countering that because of the downside. I think, to avoid being too OP for combos and to allow a more controlled tempo swing, it should state you can't use the mana crystals spent on playing the card.

Bloodthirsty Scarecrow in excellent design, and I feel like Trump skimmed over how nicely it synergizes with not just Frothing or Battle Rage, but also Armorsmith or underused cards like Festeroot Hulk or Rampage (sorry Death Revenant, you're still terrible). I think it's great to see cards that try to pull up archetypes that currently don't have enough support to function properly. And the way I see it, Enrage Warrior has a MUCH better shot than the Discard Warlock they've been trying to push for like 2 years.

Self sacrifice is actually designed well. It says the quest is to destroy your own hero. Thus making the killing blow on yourself which would be pretty hard to do. And would make your opponent wary of leaving you on a low health total

You didn't listen. The problem is that you don't need to play the quest until the turn you want to activate the effect and unlike the other quests, there is no progress, only a single trigger. The enemy can't know you have it, which could make it an insane healing card for only 1 mana. There are better alternatives, like making it a "Start of game" effect.

I don't know trump, adding a modular minion like the shark is kinda dangerouse. It gives you two effect options for one card as opposed to using two different cards for each effect, now i know a lot of minions has two effects but not on a 2 drop 2/3 that would change the early game state to make the opponent worry more of going wide or even going small putting them in a kobyashi maru, as also hunter has call to the hounds making the options a lot more spread.

Dog's Dinner is comparable to Cryostasis. 2 mana, give a friendly minion +3/+3 and freeze it. Making your minion spend its attack is comparable to freezing it. If you added the prerequisite of making it require a beast I think it would be balanced

The question is, if Granor dealt damage to itself, would it be balanced? A free 6/1 is still nice, but obviously much weaker than 6/6. And it's not completely free, since it require you to have a sacrifice on the field, which hellfire potion does not. On the other hand, the option to deal less damage could be useful at times. For example, if all you need to wipe is a board of 3/3s from an odd paladin, deal 3 to all is vastly superior. And you'd have a bigger left over minion.

Trump, I watched few of these films and I really can't get what you consider evaluating the design of the cards, because cards with very innovative effects but with some small issues, which needs some small changes, gets one stars from you and cards with not so interesting effects get commonly 3-5 stars. The argument against Infinite Toki's design is fairly shallow. Toki Timer Tinkerer already has an ever expanding card pool since cards are being added to the hall of fame every year. As far as what version of the un-nerfed card, just implement the original released version. Lastly yes you could get something bad for your deck like warsong commander, blade flurry ect. or you could get un-nerfed spreading plague, un-nerfed mind control or something else good. It's an RNG card, sometimes you get good things sometimes you get bad things. Blink fox could get you a totemic might, doesn't mean the card design is bad.

Granor's wording is consistent, it's the same for Lord Godfrey.

I don't think dogs dinner is OP. You said who's a good boy is to weak because it requires you already attacked and suggested it be 2/3 or 3/2. Dogs dinner also buffs requiring you already attacked and has the additional requirements of: having 2 attack already, opponent not having taunt, opponent not having board buffing minions (like flame totem), plus a minion dies which could trigger some opponents secrets or minions effects. Overall I think this warrants one extra stat point.

how can flaming be overpowered? as a deck that wants to aoe the board, presumably control deck, you need to stick a low health minion into turn 6, or you need to combo it in turn 7, thats A LOT to ask for.
