I was 5, almost six when Jedi came out. I had A new Hope memorized due to Showtime, and I had no clue the Empire Strikes back existed. As I saw Jedi unfold my questions are: 1) why is Han in a block? 2) who is this important Black dude that Luke & Chewie know well? 3) Vader’s face reveal was on top of that evil lady turned into a robot/cyborg on Superman 3 and was quite disturbing. 4) in the 2000-2009 decade, that double No! Was added. The silent looking back and forth, like Vader realizing “wait! This is too similar!” But had no need to say: No. Noooooo. If Lucas had foresight, Ahsoka would saunter up to Luke as he’s burning Vader’s shell. “I felt Anakin switch back before passing.” “I came as soon as I felt him return to the light.” I’m his padawan, we have much to discuss.”

To truly understand just how huge this is, you have to first watch the prequels of Anakin's origin. "Do somethin, that's your son!" If they'd known all that Anakin did...... they'd know that he had not had any problem with it up until now.

Gah. I can't get past that stupid "no" line added in the special edition. This scene was much more effective with Vader not uttering a word. It's like George Lucas lost all confidence in his own audience.

I know a lot of people don't like the "no" added but for me it was what I said when James Earl Jones died 😥

It took the loss of his wife to push him over the edge into becoming Darth Vader. It took the possibility of loosing his son to bring him back.

That no takes it from an epic scene into a parody

I was reacting to this when reacting to KZbin wasn’t even a glimmer in Vader’s eye.

The reason Vader caught Palpatine off guard is because Palpatine had too much faith in the dark side. Someone evil like him cannot comprehend the strength that can come from love and the desire to protect those you care about. This, he didn't expect Vader to turn back to the light side and didn't know what to do. He also didn't expect Vader to throw him into the reactor since Vader's suit was vulnerable to his lightning. Vader killed him even though Sidious shorted out his life support systems.

Vader never said a word. Saw this opening night, and a fictional character got a standing ovation. Everyone went nuts.

If they ever redo the movie, I think they should have Vader use the force to retrieve Luke's lightsaber and have a proper fight with sidious.
@josephpasquarella212311 күн бұрын
Palpatine was a total black hole in the force, he had no concept of what love is. That’s why he was completely blindsided by Vader, he had no perception that Vader might actually sacrifice and save his son.
@robertrussell55763 ай бұрын
@michaelschroeck2254 exactly it kept you guessing like is Darth Vader going to save his son or is he really more machine than man and when he finally just picks up Darth Sidious without uttering a single word that is like epic drop the mic redemption

It was better when Vader was silent about it. The action spoke more than words could EVER convey.

This scene has always fascinated me. Because, unlike you, who saw parts 1 to 3, we didn't know what power the Emperor had. The lightning that shot out of his fingers was the most devastating thing I saw in the cinema at the time. The ultimate evil!

They should do a movie called Return of the Chosen One and have him take on a new Sith Lord.
@saberx083 ай бұрын
Any time a reactor called him Anakin, I knew they had seen the prequels first. When you do that, you never see Vader as menacing as we did when he was a bad guy from the outset. I think that sorta ruins his impact as an antagonist. And George Lucas adding shit to these movies is just shameful! Scene carried more weight when Vader acted silently.

If Disney knows what's good for them, they'll undo most if not ALL of the Special Edition changes. Above all, the two times Vader says "No" here. Treats the audience like we're idiots.

These people certainly are 😂
@futuremovieactor2 ай бұрын
@@lizletilburn6011 Nothing wrong with others being so heavily into it that they legit think Vader will let Luke die. You're supposed to feel the anticipation build. What George Lucas failed to realize is that the anticipation is supposed to build up until Vader himself lunges at the Emperor and NOT with Vader verbally acknowledging it right before he actually does it. * Be like instead of him saying/yelling "No!", he turns to the camera and says "Hey everybody, watch me turn against him and throw him to his death". It takes away the dramatic tension AND it also draws unnecessary attention too.

The villian of a good story doesnt end the heros life in one stroke or big swoop, there is a poetic way of gloating and boasting on how I will make you hurt before you go, just so you know I am better, stronger, its is all about the arrogance + overinflated ego of major bad guys. This is why 007 villians give Bond so much time ot escape because the villains dont off the hero as quickly as they should, after all anyone can pull the trigger and BANG..that is the motive and style of a low level thug but not a major baddie.
