Paul you are the man!! I was able to get two encounters with Bulls OTC CO in 2021 because of what I learned from you on here and the app. Everyone I talked to said they hadn't seen or heard any elk on public and I had 5 encounters, 2 bulls over 7 days. A shot only presented with cows but I held out for a bull and ended up with tag soup. Thank you for sharing your knowledge I don't think I've ever been as excited as I am for 2022 SEASON! One bull came to a cold call setup before day break and was within range at first light but never got a clear shot. The other I got as close to a bedding area as i could and did some cow mews (harassed sounding) and 1 chuckle and raking and he came in silent at 1 oclock, I stopped him a 1/2 second to soon and a tree blocked his vitals. But all in all a great success for my first elk hunt. Thank you sir.

I downloaded the app which is super helpful, but listening to these videos was a major help! After about 10 hours worth of listening through out the week (driving at work) i went out and attempted a version of a breeding sequence. Normally i would call for maybe 5 minutes and walk away, but i kept going, mixing in grunts, bugles, and excited cow calls while raking and stomping the ground. After 35 minutes i thought it was a bust but no sooner had i stood up to talk too my hunting partner about calling it when out pops a bull through the trees. Unfortunately we set up 5 yards in the wrong direction and had the shot blocked by a small mound of dirt, but the adrenaline rush was something else!

So much great information here. Will try to put some of it to use in less then a week. Have had some success calling before but still don’t get most to come in for a shot

Paul, I was at this seminar and was excited to see it posted online. I forgot to take notes the first time! Great information here and I'm excited to try a new approach this Fall. There are a few "ah ha!" moments in here, where I think back on what I could've done differently on past hunts. I bought the app and have been enjoying it as well. Thanks for sharing what you've learned over the years!

Excellent info Paul! I've said it before and I'll say it many times in the future; I sure wish I had access to the Elknut philosophy/information when I was cutting my elk hunting teeth in the 70s/80s. It sure would have resulted in many more bull noses hitting the dirt. Keep it up sir and as always, thanks for what you do for elk hunters and elk hunting! RJ

Having hunted elk with a bow for close to 40 years, I can relate to Paul’s enthusiasm and knowledge of elk language. Learning the language and saying the right thing at the right time is crucial in wether your going to fill your freezer or not. I was impressed at the end of his seminar of what some hunters call the bark. Not to many hunters including some professional call makers with there own shows on tv use it. I’ve used that call just about every year for the past 20 years. I’ve learned there are 2 different barks. One is a alert bark, and the other is a show me what you are bark. They are similar. Which is exactly what Paul is explaining. I learned this 20 years ago after numerous encounters with elk spooking out in front of me but not smelling me and a few throwing that sound back after a short distance. That year I decided to mimic the sound just to see what would happen. Ended up getting into a 20 minute barking match with a nice 6x6 that circled me to see what I was. He ended up in my freezer. I had discovered the difference between a alert bark and a show me what you are bark. Called many bulls and cows back for myself and other hunters ever sense. So many hunters nowadays just go into the woods thinking just walking around making elk sounds is all you have to do. If your fortunate enough to walk into a hot bull, just about any sound will work, but that is rare on public land with pressure nowadays. Increase your odds by learning the language and take advantage of what many years of knowledge that is being shared from hunters such as Paul and his son. I sum it up hunters every year, if you walk up to someone and start blabbering, they are going to totally get annoyed and walk away. Same goes for elk! Like Will Primos says- Speak the Language!

Download some podcasts (for free) that he was a guest on. They are great listening (with stories) and give some great situations on how to use all of the info on the app. My favorite series was on The Rich Outdoors, and Trad Quest. I am heading out to Colorado too. Good Luck!

Awesome info Paul! Thank you for sharing this info. Just downloaded the app. As an elk guide for 15 years, I've guided about 60 successful hunts just using cow sounds and several big bulls hunting for myself, but after hearing this talk, Everthing makes more sense. So many situations have frustrated me.This will change the way I guide and hunt from now on. Definate eye opener.

lot of knowledge, & learned a lot but desperately in need of more structured speaking. Pretty scatter-brained delivery. 34:42 -- nervous grunt followed by round up (or near-round up/challenge bugle) 1:02:40 -- nervous grunt, identify yourself, I want a visual

I totally disagree about the comment on estrace calling. I know of two wildlife biologists that combined have over 50 years of studying elk and are very successful in writing books and other information. As far as the bark, it is a very useful sound to confuse the elk to your benefit.

Judging by all the hunters I've been bugling in, I think this app is worth its weight in gold. I must sound realistic if hunters are coming to me. I also bugled in a bull. Whats 5, 10, 15, or even 100 dollars if it helps you put hundreds of pounds of meat in the freezer? I HIGHLY recommend this app!!

I heard a bull barking like a dog real nasuly sound . Heard it over 1000 yards away. Figured it was wolvsuntil I closed the distance. Was only 6x5 under 300 inch . Almost had em u TIL he tryd windin me. I put myself in too thick of a spot. Learnin the area is key. I spot and stalk mostly as I’m scared shitless from calling anymore. Too many grizzlies out there ruining a persons favourite place.
