I always love seeing new people react to this sequence. Order 66 really does go under the radar beautifully. Most people aren't expecting it and its basically like George's new version of Darth Vader saying he is Luke's father, with the emotion and surprise that comes with it. Never fails to make me cry.

Since most of these reactors have not also seen Star Wars: The Clone Wars, they fail to understand the equally major tragedy befall all the clone troopers. They fought, bled, died, and befriended the Jedi over 2-4 years of fighting and in one instant are then made to turn on their friends and kill them. An entire army unable to stop itself from killing its commanders, only to then be decommissioned and thrown away as a budget cut.

I didn't really like the novel. And I didn't like the (to me) stupid idea that the clones were conscious of their ultimate purpose. After six, seven years of war, a Jedi would have discovered this AND lived. Of course he/she would! He/she is a Jedi!

@Svensk7119 the war was only 3 years long. Not 6-7 years. And order 66 was never kept secret, just buried amongst other orders like order 65 (kill the Chancellor)

Every reactor here asking why? Chancellor Palpatine (Sith Lord) now Emperor executed one of Orders that Galactic Republic use for the government. He uses one of those Orders to his advantage. Order 66 is the order to punish or eliminate any Jedi and Jedi Council. Sadly, younglings were eliminated too because Emperor Palpatine feared one of those younglings would eliminate him. That's why both infant twins: Leia and Luke were hidden from Emperor and Darth Vader (Anakin). If Order 65 was enacted, then Palpatine would have been ousted from office after Security Council had evidence of his treachery. There are 150 Orders of Star Wars' Universe

Alot of people dont really understand just what the chips do. They dont control. They rewrite everything a clone knows about the jedi. A fan made video put us in the perspective of the clones when order 66 was given. It changed their memories of fighting along side a friend to bitter moments of being a slave or a tool to their jedi general, their kindness into aggression, and their will to serve the republic into blind loyalty for the emperor...most of the clones didn't even know about the chip save for fives and rex...they were able to struggle...yet fail in the end...it changes you the moment Palpatine issues the order...very few would be able to recover a fraction of their former selves when the order was done....

Order 66 is a heavily emotional sequence of events, especially seeing Anakin kill the younglings. But what makes it sadder is that Grogu from The Mandalorian is also a survivor of the assault on the Jedi Temple.

The reasons why the Jedi sense it coming was because they sense danger through emotions. The clones weren't acting out of anger so the jedi didn't sense it. The second reason is because the force had been polluted by the dark side, inhibiting the Jedi's abilities. The last reason is because of overwhelming numbers of their own troops. Few Jedi can long hold their own against those odds. Plus the complete unexpected betrayal.

Sometimes in film the scene NOT shown is just as effective as if it was… there was no need to actually see Anakin killing the kids because the implication in your mind is just as vivid, or maybe even more so, and horrifying then actually seeing it.
