I have a Topfin glass 5 gallon tank I bought years ago. It came with a built in filter on one side of the tank. I ripped it out and used my own hang on back filter. I turned it into a reef tank.

You should do a follow up video eventually where you clean the tank with the cleaning system after actual use. I wonder how well the gravel gets cleaned with this hydro technology.

Tom Collin right. There’s no way you won’t need to gravel vac. I’m very hesitant to trust this filter system

Tom Collin I have a rank similar to this! It won’t clean the gravel but will do a good job to pump out the water! I have one with the same technology with the water pumping out thing for a betta fish and he loves sitting again fed the filter to rest as it will suck him unuf we won’t have to swim!

I have this tank I had to get a gravel vac. I do really like the tank overall. I also got a different light since I have a planted tank, and the other hood/light that came with the tank gets very wet. All in all it is nice because it is super easy to do water changes, but you definitely have to keep up with cleaning the gravel (learned this recently with detritus worms in my tank--hard to get rid of once you have them).

I have a 3gal and I love it. The light is quite good too. The hydro change is the best part. It's very clean and easy to do water changes and you can pour the water back into the fountain area so you don't bother the substrate. Only thing I don't like is that it is not all glass. The 3gal has a plastic bottom and the filter side is plastic.

Read the directions. You pull it up, swing it over, then push it down for the water to come out.

This looks like a bigger version of the Top Fin Ease, just without the fake wood look. I'll have to check into the smaller one you mentioned!

Great light for plant growth! Really like the new water change. Not really liking the white background - Had a Fluval that was white even planted It just didn't work for me,hopefully there is a black tank option - My top fin 5 gallon has the silver grey and not complementary as planted tanks for me. Have you tried cherry shrimp or any smaller shrimp i saw someone sugest to someone else to get shrimp to help clean the small spaces in the back but im worried about if they will survive

I’d love an update. I’m wary of this filtration system. Obviously you’d never to vac the gravel. And that cartridge isn’t gonna catch a lot of what it needs to. How’s it working for you when it’s stocked?

When I had this tank up and running I used a Cascade internal filter along with the filter it came with. I also used a small hang on the back filter at one point

I bought this tank on impulse. Now that I have it not really sure if it's really safe for smaller fish and how safe is it having those groves for filtering the water . I want to purchase kuhli loach small eels. They are curious fish and like to hide in nook and crannies. I like the idea of closing it off with some sponge. I like live plants and I was wondering how would duck weed or any floating plants would hold up in a tank like that. I also want to scape my tank also. 🤨🤔💬🌿🌿🐟🐟🐟

@DemonkittenXIII the gunk behind the wall and on the floor of the tank is normal. Just means that it's doing its job. To clean it use a vac and if its caked on use a brush/algae brush. I would clean everything up first then change the filter. The filter is good for about a month.

I use this as a hospital/quarentine tank but I have to say I've had both a guppy and an emerald bronze corydora jump and get stuck behind the filter area. Super irritating as its happened over and over again.

I brought Tetra 2.5 gallons aquarium from PetSmart no filter using only sponge filter but can not control the Ammonia. I will like to change the aquarium with filter. I was trying to raise baby harlequin rasboras to add them to 10 gallon aquarium with 2 harlequin rasboras. The lost the others from hurricane Irma from 2017

Oh wow I'm sorry to hear that! From what I've learned about smaller tanks is to do frequent water changes and don't keep that many fish. That will help with the ammonia. And there are cheap alternatives for getting bigger tanks for cheap. Petco dollar pe gallon is always a good idea.

Can I ask if you have figured out how to get a bubbler in here? I see the space on the top right side, but wanted to be able to put our airstone inside the main tank vs filtered water portion. Just bought this today when our old tank cracked and can't seem to get the lid to lay right. Suggestions? Novice fish owner

A bubbler? Or sponge filter? The lid won't fit perfect with the airline. But there is plenty to put a small air stone or a smaller corner sponge filter. Also the make air stones that go under gravel.

@@aquariumconversations8420 Oh goodness. This is where the novice part kicks in. In our old tank, the lid had space for the airline. So we just had a small air stone connected to the a mini pump. It works quite well and Id love to use it here, barring not being able to close the lid.

@@lisasteven2007 we are all a novice at some point! I never used the lid for this tank. The lights on the lid weren't that good for plant growth. So it may come down to using the air stone with the lid not sitting flush or trying a new light like I did. Check out my updates I did for this tank. See if u like the rimless look.

Have a small whiskey barrel hide for my betta the snails are moving around eating non stop and my oto sticks to the glass cleaning it I wish I could post a pic of it

My betta does not like this tank. Do to the complete white back it made it way to reflective. He was very angry seeing his reflection all the time. It totally stressed him out. I gave it like a week to see if he would get used to it but finally had to change his tank. May not be the case for everyone but for my betta bob, it was a no go.
