This week I am joined by a friend and frequent collaborator, Lauren Rosen.
Lauren in a licensed marriage and family therapist in California specializing in OCD treatment. In a bit of departure, we're doing a top five list! Lauren and I decided to share the top five anxiety-busting recovery tips and concepts that helped us both along the path to recovery.
Is it click bait? Is it helpful? It's probably both, so check it out!

For me it’s like Groundhogs day 🤣 I forget I have healed a bit, but the mind seems to always remember the bad days making forget the progress I’ve already made.

Why do we have such a strong negative bias??? Its super common. We all do that for some reason. I assume it's a protective mechanism since our brains are here to keep us alive, not happy. But, being aware of this can really help so good job pointing out the habit. :-)

Great episode y'all. My 5 would be... 1. Stop talking about the anxiety 2. Divert the mind as much as possible 3. Walk. A lot. 4. Don't bother with EFT, hypnosis, energy healing, NLP, etc. 5. Don't think celery juice will cure anxiety (I had to put this in there lol)

I would add "Don't engage" but maybe that's the same as your #2!

I can relate to the point Lauren made about needing confidence not certainty. For me I need confidence that I will be able to handle any situation that might arise rather than the certainty that a situation won't happen.

That is a REALLY important distinction so she totally knocked it out of the park when she said that. I totally agree!

It resonates with me too..I am having a second bout of hyperstimulation from ruminating over a whoosing sound in my ear that went on for 2 years.. in 2016 I had a bout with it for 6 months and finally cured it with claire weekes and her complete acceptance advice. Now I am struggling a bit with it but your statement is helping me accept fully and sag!,

I have come over from Spotify... Just want to say I'm really enjoying these conversations. The podcast in particular that I really like, is the one where you talk about having anxiety before having anxiety...alot of aha moments for me.

To help solve this for me… I kept a little notebook. When I felt something, I told no one and wrote it down. “This bruise is hanging around too long, maybe I have a blood disorder, what’s that pain in my foot, a headache hmmm, could it be something more serious “ and blah, blah, blah. After a while, I’d go back and read them and notice, wonder of wonders….. these issues have resolved themselves !! Still review periodically when I need to.

Love this!!! What a productive way to express those irrational fears, but in a way that doesn't add fuel to the fire. I love the looping back to let reality teach you important lessons. Thank you for sharing. :-)

This is a 5 star episode. Tip 2- digging, digging ,digging or put down the shovel and walk away. Excellent… Shut up… SO guilty of this. “I feel (insert symptom)🙄… oh no, what if… (Insert any catastrophic ending). Perhaps an underhanded way of seeking reassurance ? … feelings dragging you up and down the street. Guys, great analogies on this. Thanks. Love this podcast ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I'm not sure I understand the question completely so feel free to re-phrase . If you're asking about "feeling other people's feelings", that's complicated. Often that's somehow seen as some kind of almost supernatural power or ability. Some will call it a curse, but also be kinda proud of it and want to make it a big part of their identity. I tend to view that as a protection response. Those that claim this "power" tend to often come from lived experiences where trying to predict and read what others are feeling was required to avoid being blindsided or hurt in some way. "I take on your feelings because I learned that I had to do that to stay safe". I can't tell you for sure but those are common interpretations and things for you to maybe reflect on to see if any of that makes sense for you. xx
