We need to *stop rewarding people for cleaning up their act, AGES after they were meant to have a decent game out in the first place.* All rewarding them does, is show the industry we will tolerate any abuse, as long as they make up for it...

Super Game Master What you’re missing is that devs take the abuse anyways. Hello Games wasn’t a AAA level studio, so they actually did something or else they would’ve gone bankrupt. Yeah they just did what they were supposed to but it was the way they went about it that actually made it respectable. They didn’t go on Twitter every day and say “hey yeah it sucks now but we’re gonna make it better we swear” and make more empty lies, they stopped any updates about it and just did their shit and made the game pretty solid. Not entiiiirely their fault if you still don’t find the game adequate.

Don't forget that it was hated for more than the artstyle: *it's fully linear. *it had 5 to 6 dungeons and a lot of filler content (they didn't have time for the third pearl dungeon, and you can feel it! ) *those dungeons were suddenly a lot easier (watch boss keys to understand why. But basically it's because they were more linear and we had already played two Zelda games so for better at the puzzles! ) It's only years later, after we got the game we wanted in twilight princess. And you see how beautifull the artstyle has stood the test of time. That everyone started to live it again!

The only one I can think of is Mother 3, at least with a complete fan translation.
@toumabyakuya34984 жыл бұрын
Here are some suggestions: - Gyakuten Kenji 2: It was beautifully translated and seems even official. Thanks to this a lot of fans of the Ace Attorney franchise could actually play through one of (if not the best) stories Ace Attorney has ever had. - Dai Gyakuten Saiban 1: (Yeah, am a big Ace Attorney fan) This one is actually a crossover with the fricking Sherlock Holmes! It has an amazing story, very well crafted characters and a great mystery to discover. Its sequel is being translated at the moment by the same group and chapters 1 & 2 are already available on the 3DS. - Danganronpa 1: Yeah, believe it or not, this one had a fan-translation. The fact the fan-translation existed is what prompted an official translation to begin with. - Mother 3: I mean, do I really need to explain why?. - Any Super Robot Wars game: Seeing how licensing the game is such a nightmare for the development team (because this is a Massive Crossover franchise between a lot of Mecha anime and the rights overseas, unlike in Japan, are all basically spread all over the world) and they have very little money to make the games to begin with, they basically cannot localize the franchise. So a lot of fans have stepped up to translate the games themselves to varying success. The ones that come to mind with expertly made fan-translations are: Judgement, A Portable and Original Generation Saga: Endless Frontier Exceed. This fan-translations also told Konami that a want for this franchise over-seas does exist, ergo, since Moon Dwellers they have used a loophole of translating the game to English and then selling it in South Korea so westerners can import it from pages like PlayAsia.

Undertale has a lot of 4th wall breaks that are painful for reasons (Flowey calling you out after you reload Toriel), but I would also lump in the Pacifist ending where you, the player, are asked to never boot up the game again and to let the characters live a happy life that you achieved for them. @@UltimatePhantasm As someone who has played both Unleashed (Wii version) and Colors and loves Unleashed more and has always done so, it has almost everything to do with the controls. Colors controls feel more slippery, like you tap the control stick and Sonic flies in that direction in a way I find frustrating to control, whereas Unleashed, while maybe overly stiff, feels a bit better since it's more about trying to maintain your momentum and when you get going, it's easier to keep going. It's also part of why I liked Generations more than Colors, it had a more Unleashed style control scheme. Also being able to use quick-step and drift at any point, not just when the game says you can. As for the werehog, I'm not going to defend that. I have a soft spot for it and personally do still like it, partially because I like 3D platforming generally with exploring and the combat, while not great, I find rewarding enough (at least when it's a giant brawl instead of tons of small encounters every 5 feet) but it's still the less fun half and those stages are ridiculously long and frequent. Some of my honorable mentions: I don’t think Twilight Princess was as hated as Wind Waker, but I do distinctly remember people not liking it, while nowadays it’s generally seen as better than (even if not as important to gaming history as) OoT. Skyward Sword is also getting a little more credit, which is nice. People maligned Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies when it came out, and the sentiment I see now is that it does deserve a spot in the series even if it’s one of the weaker games. Super Paper Mario was a similar situation to New Vegas. It wasn’t what anyone expected or wanted, but then Sticker Star came out and forced everyone to acknowledge it as a solid game.

@N120154 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure Skyward sword is more hated now than in 2012. If I have to guess it would be because of underwhelming graphics, motion controls everywhere, the lack of auto-target in the bow and slingshot, being excessively linear, the tedious crafting system, giving you more questions than answers in the plot, among others.
@nanowasabi44214 жыл бұрын
Fernando Vasquez I haven’t been in many discussions about Skyward Sword since BotW came out, so it’s possible that that made people more aware of Skyward Sword’s flaws, but part of your reply just sounds like personal animus. I’ve never heard anyone complain about the crafting system, and most people I’ve talked to consider the story to be one of Zelda’s best. Linearity is a matter of preference. Of course the motion controls could have been better, and while I find Fi’s character likable, she’s terrible from a gameplay perspective, but I see Skyward Sword compared favorably with both Wind Waker and Twilight Princess much more now than I did right after it came out, even if few people will claim it’s the best Zelda game.

Hopefully the same can happen with Pokémon Sun/Moon in another few years.

I wasn't interested in NMS before the Beyond update - but I definitely don't regret buying it once I (re-?)discovered it after Beyond's release. Originally, back when the trailers were being revealed, I shrugged No Man's Sky off as some weird 3D Starbound. As I generally prefer my games 2D, I had no reason to play NMS when Starbound seemingly did the same thing, but in a style I prefer. And yet, now I'm heavily enjoying diving into No Man's Sky, optimising trade routes and making money farms to upgrade this rather nice looking starship I found into something worth using. Also crashing into planets. Because apparently that wasn't possible before.

I have to admire the guts they had to not let you have a Pikachu at all in Black and White versions. Considering how much the franchise is whoring out nostalgia currently, excluding the mascot from a mainline game is a bold move.

Personally, gen 5 was always my favorite. Probably cause I grew up with it. That would also explain why I still don't like wind waker that much. People hyped it up so much and when I finally got around to playing the HD version in 2018, it was underwhelming. Basically all my problems with it can be boiled down to there weren't enough dungeons, the great sea felt empty, and why the scavenger hunt for the triforce shards...

I never hated WW for its look. I hated it because of the tingle maps+ the grasping arm not working, the sailing being either boring lines or constantly shifting the wind, and the lack of temples, which they replaced with idiotic Tingle maps that you needed a giant's wallet to actually buy, and grind rupess to buy the maps with. Every time someone finds out I dislike WW I get the "It's because its cartoony isn't it?" line. No mike. it's because I needed to tediously grind for a giant wallet, then tediously grind rupees to save the world because a creeper midget is holding the maps hostage.
@Howitchewstofeel5gum4 жыл бұрын
@@tommenno It boils down to this: WW was rushed and thus a lot of the content is annoying, reptitious, and tedious instead of fun. I love the art style, the locations, the soundtrack... But actually playing through the game just isn't that fun for me. And I think the current resurgence of WW love is, at least in some part, due to nostalgia. People tend to hold the first Zelda game that they played in very high regard (for me that's Ocarina of Time).

@@tommenno Okay so I had a whole paragraph typed out but my internet went down just as I pressed the reply button and even after it came back the comment still wouldn't go through. So now I'm going to be a lot less formal because I'm done caring. So in short, Wind Waker wants to be a big open sandbox, but shoehorns a linear story in. The Tingle Chart costs are designed to bridge these two sides of the game by encouraging the player to explore until they have enough rupees. Basically, sidequesting progresses the plot. But because you gradually get abilities over the course of the story and there's obstacles necessitating them everywhere you're discouraged from exploring until you have just about all of them. So you're stuck either constantly running into more roadblocks than you can keep track of or cramming in all your exploring at the end of the game. That's why Breath of the Wild gives you all of your abilities from the start. Wind Waker HD fixes almost all of your grievances and most of the changes are good, but the changes it makes to the Triforce shard quest just replace one issue with another, because it's a symptom of a bigger problem and not the root cause.

"How much to get Obsidian to make a new Fallout game, do you reckon?" Didn't they just release one last year? It doesn't have the Fallout name, but I've heard The Outer Worlds is designed similarly to Fallout: New Vegas and is pretty good. - someone who has never touched it or a Fallout game "If that was the case, we might as well not buy games at launch anymore." ...Not a bad idea. I've already forsaken pre-ordering video games years ago because with how unlikely their stock is actually going to run out anymore, there's not much of a point to reserving a copy most of the time. I think the last time I pre-ordered was Pokemon Alpha Sapphire, and when Splatoon and Pokemon Sun & Moon came out on their launch days, I just walked into Best Buy / Gamestop to buy a copy THAT DAY because there were still so many copies left. Now, if devs are going to offer incomplete games from the start, what's the rush? Updating a game over time definitely has the benefit of being able to correct mistakes or rebalance elements, but I kind of miss the days when developers were able to release a complete, nearly-entirely-functioning-as-intended product. Rampant consumerism and rushed deadlines are a couple of bitches, aren't they?

I never really understood all the flak over pokemon designs in more recent games. Remember, gen 1 had a pile of sludge that got more sludgey, a metal sphere that just tripled, and a pokeball that got a mouth, as well as a tadpole that got angry. There were lazy ideas from the get-go, but they get a pass for the same reason the smash community will overlook all the flaws in Melee.

"Lets not buy games at launch anymore. Lets make them sweat." Something I've said on many, many redundant titles and inevitable bombs within a week of launch. Seeing the harsh lambasting kick in and sitting back replying "I told you so" to friends of mine that didn't listen and needed to rant. I'm confident companies would suddenly be compelled to listen when launch sales drop by such a drastic number. However the years have made me quite a pessimist, slap a beloved IP on anything and it'll sell millions at launch.

I think Five Nights at Freddy's is a good contender for this list. But he managed to plow through and get it released, and after some initial word of mouth, it grabbed the attention of several KZbinrs, including Markiplier and MatPat. While the series as a whole was initially criticized for the overuse of jumpscares, but was later boosted by the lore that analyzers kept digging up. And just look where it is now!

The story of FFXIV’s horrible launch, bad backlash, and eventual rebirth into one of the most beloved MMORPGs out there, should have at least had a mention..! I’m not so upset that I’m angry or saying that this list is “bad”, I just think this was a huge missed opportunity! "Minecraft started as a small Indie game". And yet if Steve was added into Smash everyone will say it's a Microsoft rep. This is why I get annoyed when people say Smash ignores the work of small Indie studios, because if you actually look up the history of certain character's games you'd realize they did come from small indie studios. The problem is once a Series reaches the sales,popularity and legacy that makes Nintendo consider them as DLC for Smash, people stop seeing that series as an Indie game. Either the original Studio uses the success to expand or the Series gets bought up by a larger company.

When I saw that reveal trailer for "Wind Waker," I lined up to hate it (while still intending to buy it because it's a Zelda game). I warmed to it when early previews starting coming through. I got it when came out, even preordering just to get that limited edition GC port of "Ocarina of Time" to play while waiting for it. It's still one of my favorite Gamecube games and a reminder that when it comes to actually making games, Nintendo knows what they're doing more often then not And-No man's sky. I remember seeing the hype train fly off a cliff and blow up the entire train station. I thought it was funny. And then this year, I take a look at it and start reading about how it's now good. I gave it a chance. And the game consumed my life for a few weeks (I'm eventually getting back into it). Hello Games deserves credit for causing one of the biggest train wrecks in gaming history and, instead of running away as fast as they could, rebuilding the train, the railroad, the station and then expanding and improving on it.
