The market is still strong and it is difficult for top flite to compete.

When you mentioned this ball in a different ball review, I had to check out this review. After this review, I figured that I would check out the TF gamer since Golf Galaxy had a killer deal. I shot a round with them today. The distance numbers seemed to be ok. There is just something about the feel of this ball at times and it is not a good feeling. At this point, I doubt I would buy them again but I do not regret the purchase.

That's kind of how I felt too. It didn't blow me away by any standards, but if someone's on a limited budget and losing a lot of golf balls. Why not? The box should last long enough to get a 12-pack and nine holes in 😂

Great review! I’m between this and maxfli trifli, which I think are essentially the same ball. Would love to see a comparison!

It's just a ball in an increasingly competitive market. Cut Grey would be a better ball for an intermediate player and usually let expenisve. Cut Red is way cheaper and probably as good. Wilson Zips are cheaper, softer, and in my opinion better. I think the Srixon Soft Feels, although two piece, are as good as these.

I'd like to hear your thoughts on Gamer vs Srixon Soft Feel. Each of those you can find sub $20 now and then. I'm a 95-100 drive speed. I lose enough golf balls to be cost conscious though.

I can make that happen. I don't know exactly when I will test the soft feel. However when I do I'll do a quick comparison to the gamer.

Have you tested any Inesis balls? I use the 900 ball bought from Decathlon here in Thailand.

I've played Top flite D2+ feel ever since Callaway redesigned and improved the ball. The Gamer was a 3 piece ball with a urethane cover back then as well. When Dick's bought Top flite the ball has changed and not for the better. The Hammer control is not exactly the same as the D2+ feel but not terrible either. I think Dick's cheapened these from the original Callaway design. I'm going to give the Gamer a try, but that too has changed to an Ionomer cover just like the Hammer Control. So I remain optimistic but my gut feeling tells me there is little to no difference between the Hammer Control and the Gamer today. The price point is attractive.

I would buy that. Since dicks owns not only the top flight brand, but the maxfli brand as well, it doesn't surprise me that they're just trying to make a very cheap product. They are getting amazing results from the tour series on the opposite end, so the top flites might now be a pure budget ball

Just picked up some top flite xl distance because they were free with some dicks dollars I had. They didn't feel horrible and went really far. Hitting 300 yard drives more than I normally do. Also hit my farthest 4 iron ever. This ball does not spin or hold the green though. Wondering if you compare the current xl distance vs the control. If I can get similar distances with some spin and hold around the greens, I might play top flite over my srixon balls.

I haven't done a test on the top flights in a couple years but I think I'm going to retest them for 2024 because of the new models that released. I can do that comparison then.

I’ve been watching your reviews and appreciate them. Can I ask What ball are you currently playing?

Thank you so much! I've been playing the mizuno tour at the moment. I also will bring some srixon z stars as well.

The gamer has been around a while. There have been a few versions but they are a pretty good ball. I haven’t tried any lately. Top Flite, Maxfli, and Tommy Armour are all owned by dick sporting goods but I don’t know if that has improved the products or not.

Thanks for this review. It confirms why I enjoy this ball so much! I’m a mid handicapper looking for another ball recommendation. I definitely want a blend of distance, soft response around the green, and durability. Price is definitely important! I don’t want to play really more than $2/ball if that’s possible. Any recommendations other than the Gamer? I am curious about the Kirkland ball. Thanks in advance!

From What I have tested so far, I would check out some of the following Mizuno Rb566 (22$ per dozen) Titleist Trusoft (22$ per dozen) Taylormade Soft Response (25$ per dozen) Cut Red (20$ for 24 balls) Precept Laddie Extreme (20$ for 24 balls) Also could depend on your swing speed. However these golf balls have performed wonderfully for me. Also keep an eye on the channel, I'm testing new golf balls everyday now.

The curse of the gamer. Decades ago when this ball was first introduced golf digest ranked them high in the yearly golf ball review. I was a new golfer and just breaking 100 on a regular basis. So I paid the extra for these balls to be used in important matches and would set my Dunlop DDH distance balls aside. Each time I would put the gamer into play I would loose the ball on the first tee. After going through a dozen for special matches I never got to hit any one of them a second shot. I stopped using them and put the other 2 dozen aside. From time to time I would put one in play with the same result . It would be lost off the first tee. The curse of the game continued. Only when I begin to shoot in the high eighties I improved and the ball lasted for 3 holes before it was gone. These balls are cursed. Stay away from them!!!! LOL
