I'm a rookie at a career department. We just spent thousands on bbq equipment, meanwhile we don't have any workout equipment. We had a LODD this year. Yet, my department is full of fat lazy firemen that would rather talk about fires they've fought then actually train for them. I'm all in at this point, but I'm wearing out having to convince my own Captain to train. It's not just my shift/station. As a probie I can't change the culture at this department, so I'm hoping I can get on at a department that actually take itself seriously. For now I rely on social media to try and commune with guys who give a shit about the job. Say all this to say I deeply appreciate Pete coming on here and sharing his knowledge.
