Thing about the DS is that it's handsome. Lotsa small cars are pretty, lotsa fast cars are beautiful, lotsa Italian cars are drop dead gorgeous, b ut the DS is in a small group that are just damn handsome. I'd have one.

@@Channel-os4uk 'handsome'?????????? If you own that car, you'll hear about it from everyone who sees it - each and every one will run in and tell you that someone must have crashed into it from every conceivable direction. And that includes from underneath the hideous thing ;-). And the next thing out of their mouth would, of course, be, "Wait - you mean it's *supposed* to look like that?!?"

They are doing a reprise, complete with oboe solo, of Quentin Willson’s introduction of the car on this show years before. He captured the car’s mystique far more effectively than these two, who of course had to bring everything back on themselves.

Although market appeal and off course it's respective sales. Are fundamental for the survival of any brand. Citroen "under" Peugeot vision will never go back to make dream cars, like the DS! Sometimes it's really a pity the bean counters take control of creativity. Anyone remember the first Twingo! Outstanding for what it was! Another small example of bean counters relieving the knot around creative throat!

The DS'es are the basis of some of the most iconic cars to come out of France till this day. (DS Palas, C5, Saxo, 504, 306, 406, 508, the GTIs, Megane RS, Clios, Alpines and so on) Good value for money, great tech, great looks, good to drive, very soft seats, fairly reliable, tough bodied, with fancy suspension/ride quality and quirky! Fun Fact: The DS also saved the life of President Charles De Gaulle during an assassination attempt, who in turn saved Citroen from bankruptcy!

And my dad was driving one (actually he had three of them, but of course only one at a time). True story: some years ago there was a DS stopped right behind me at the traffic lights (in a wonderful metalic green), with two old ladies in it. I got out of my car, dropped to my knees and adored the DS like a true godess deserves it. The looks on the faces of the two ladies was just priceless.

Sad to see the crap looking things Citroen has been pumping out for about 20 years now. Thank god for DS though
@ssssssss6889 Жыл бұрын
Not for about the last 20 years even more. The DS,SM ,CX was when Citroen operated without a considered budget concern and they went bankrupt in 1974. Without the French government dictating Peugeot to take over Citroen , there would be no Citroen today, like there is no Simca,Panhard,Talbot etc. Everything done after 1974 had a tight budget to commit to. That's the the difference basically,. It's not about Citroen being capable or not today, it's about the budget they are allowed to operate in.

A friend of my mother had one of these, back in the early 70's. In Staten Island, NY! Just an ordinary housewife, she must have talked her husband into buying it because I never saw him drive it. I got to ride in it a bunch of times. Tell you the truth, I thought it was crap! Way too crowded in the back seat if you had four kids sitting back there. And since my mother had 5 kids and her friend had 5 kids, whenever I got a ride in it it was always with a bunch of kids in it, so I guess it wasn't a practical family car. it was some kind of brown/gold color and I thought it looked like a roach. I thought it was the ugliest car I had ever seen. My father's comment on the air suspension was, "It's just another thing to break down.." But what do we know? We're just Americans. My idea of a beautiful car is a late 50's Chrysler 300 or a mid-60's Pontiac GTO. Everyone to their own taste.
