Episode 2 of the "Some Say" Podcast - having worked on TOP GEAR for EIGHT YEARS I knew there still so much I didn't know in terms of some secrets that the producers kept to themselves. In particular - THAT ARGENTINA EPISODE. So I had to grill Richard Porter, the script writer, with some help from former Series Producer Jim Wiseman who also wasn't buying the official story. Do you believe him... ;)
This one's for TOP GEAR fans and gear heads alike.
Hope you enjoy it and here's a link to sign up to the podcast podfollow.com/...

I live in Mexico and I remember watching Top Gear for the first time on a TV at a Bennigan's restaurant in my city town. I didn't even know what it was but I was instantly hooked... Then went home, searched it (I don´t remember how since I didn't even knew the name of the show) and found some clips. Then, it was a real challenge to get the episodes in the web (because it didn't broadcasted in Mexico) but I watched all the series until it's end. It was quite something and really impacted my life. It's great to get to see the people who made all this possible. Thanks!

Just found your channel. Ben, you made every Sunday night for me, just the way you played the whole role of the stig was amazing. Grand Tour just never had the same feel as Top Gear and that came down to the crew and writers. I figured it wasn't shenanigans, too subtle, and no three stooges' reactions to it as they followed each other. Not like the episode where they went to Alabama, mucked around, and about found out. I live in Texas, and just rewatched that one the other night with my wife. We were surprised they didn't get it worse.

To the writers, TG is one of my favorite shows, as an American who is nearly 50. The Stig was a brilliant character in delivery. It drove home the point it was a race driver, and that was the focus, but had fun with the character, like a mythical automaton.

Top Gear was one of the best things of my twenties/thirties. I'd mourn the end of a season and be practically giddy at the trailers for the next. Brilliant people came together and made something more than the sum of their parts, some of the most remarkable TV ever made. And for me it's a feat which can't be repeated. It started with the Winter olympics - I was crying with laughter, and keep watching every so often. And those manufacturer / model (Lancia, Saab etc) pieces are art in their own right. Top Gear transcended being a show, it's become important history.

Ben you are the perfect talk show host! You ask questions and then let the guests talk. If things lull you get the talk going again. There are so many, particularly on KZbin that are so narcissistic that they just can not let another get any of the attention. not British, so I don't get the whole cherished plate world where some combos seem so obscure that they're next to pointless. Same goes for the 928's plate. Quite a stretch for many people to imagine it meant that.
@VonBlade
@VonBlade 6 ай бұрын
@@pffyespff Not at all. If the plate was A91 IRQ (or DSTSTRM on a US plate) and they were going through Kuwait, Yanks would know what it meant. For Brits, 1982 Falklands conflict is writ large in our social consciousness. Given that the previous part to this the fixer/recon admitted they picked through many cars, and that in the UK you can search for car plates and what they're on, there is a 100% chance that the TG team either searched the plate and sourced the car, or randomly went through many cars and spotted the plate so picked that. There is a 0% chance it was entirely coincidence. Zero. I don't mind, it's what they did. I know legally and diplomatically they have to say it's a coincidence. If it was, Hammond is taller than Clarkson.

My fav some say line was "Some say he knows 2 facts about ducks, and both of them are wrong" Man what a coincidence! I was typing this just as he said it

Great podcast! This show was my teenage years and early 20's. By far the best show ever made! If I may add a suggestion for the podcast: sometimes it was hard to understand what was said because of the massive space. There's a lot of reverb and echo, which the mics pic up and muddle the sound. Maybe it would be better in a smaller space or with some adjustments to the mics.

I was at Silverstone for a mini LeMans type even the week Ben was outed as The Stig. Ben was driving for a team and at the end of the weekend someone tippexed over his picture outside is pit and turned it into The Stig. It was pretty funny to see at the time.
