Enjoy my reaction to Top Gun (1986) for the FIRST TIME. I was genuinely shocked that I enjoyed this movie as much as I did. Very charming 80's action film with our main man Tom Cruise elevating the story.

@The Cocoa Couch Sounds good. Then I would humbly like to ask you to please react to "Patriots Day" starring Mark Wahlberg. It's a movie about the Boston Marathon bombing that took place on April 13th, 2013. I was there that tragic day, and I can't begin to tell you of the horrible things I saw, smelled, heard, and experienced. To this day, I still carry the emotional scars, and suffer from ptsd. Being at the scene of a terrorist attack, is nothing no one should ever have to witness, but I'll spare you of the details. This past April 13th, marked the 10th anniversary. I know that this is a deeply horrific subject matter, and it's devastating to react too on an emotional level. However, this movie doesn't so much focus on the senseless tragedy but, it respectfully honors all those who were affected. Not just he victims, (many of whom are now personal friends), but in particular, the heroes! First responders, police, emts, doctors, FBI, and every day citizens who jumped in, and did all they could to help. It's a story of triumph, not terror. Being that was the 10th anniversary, I think it would be a perfect time to honor all these heroes. As I said, I was there, and am forever broken because of it but, it's those heroes who saved so many lives, and continue to on a daily basis. They're my inspiration, and they are who I hope will inspire you as well. Thank you so much, and God bless! 😇

Iceman is a very cool character. Beneath the icy exterior and arrogance, he is very much about risk management, being a team player and setting aside personal wants to accomplish the mission. I predict he will go far in the ranks.

I first saw this movie in the theater, on a military base, in Munich, Germany. There is nothing like watching this movie in a theater full of soldiers and airmen. My friends and I went to the late showing, and our soldier husbands had gone to the early showing. When we all got back together at the end of the night, the question about our favorite scenes came up. All the guys could talk about were the jets, and military protocol, etc. All us wives could talk about was the volleyball scene!

1. An old shipmate of mine was on the Enterprise when they filmed this. 2. Gooses death was not Maverick's fault. Iceman was bogarting his LOS approach and they got caught in the jet wash. 3. I spent 24 years in the US Navy. 6 on "bird farms" (Carriers). I have seen 1000+ launches and landings without a single crash. These men and the men working the flat tops are doing the most dangerous job in the world (for the good guys). Shout out😎 4. Kelly McGillis/Charlie was in a movie with Harrison Ford "Witness" that's seriously worth a first time/share HINT HINT 5. Tom Skerritt/Viper not only played Dallas in "Alien" he also played Strawberry in "Up in Smoke" with Cheech and Chong. 6. Val Kilmer/Iceman has a long list of movies including but not limited to: "Willow", "The Doors" and "Tombstone" 7. The officer(Goose) is the RIO (Radar Intercept Officer) radar, communications and navigation. 8. Onboard the ship the Squadron leader would not be smoking a cigar in that operation space. 9. Meg Ryan is my honey. A great overlooked movie with her is with Tom Hanks called "Joe vs the Volcano" She plays 3 parts. HINT HINT 10. Onboard the ship/aircraft all the perspiration is Hollywood(not the pilot). There is AC onboard. 11. IRL the AO can't tell if a pilot is engaging/disengaging. 12. The TOP GUN school is no longer located at Miramar near San Diego. It's now at NAS Fallon, NV. 13. In 1991 I was stationed on the USS INDEPENDENCE (CV-62) and they made a movie onboard called "Flight of the Intruder". It was seriously cool. Brad Johnson, Willem DeFoe and Danny Glover. I'm actually in it for a very brief period of time. HINT HINT. 14. Watching/sharing the new "Top Gun Maverick" is a must. The ariel work in that movie makes this one seems like they were practicing. Better yet, it has a plot/mission. (besides Navy recruitment).

Mate I really appreciate the thorough comment. Love learning new things 😁 I’ll likely give Maverick a watch fairly soon since I think it’s only appropriate after doing this. That’s so cool you got in a movie though for even a small moment 👌 glad there is AC in there 😂 and yeah for sure, one of this situations where the character may have contributed in someway to a characters death but it isn’t their fault hey. It’s like if I didn’t wake up this morning I wouldn’t have got hit by a car, like technically that’s true but it isn’t my fault, it was the driver.

Actually, the accident wasn’t Iceman’s fault either. The early models of the F-14 were manufactured with an older model Pratt & Whitney jet engine. This decision was made to avoid delaying the deployment of the new jet instead of waiting on the newer jet engine intended for the F-14 that was still in development. The older Pratt & Whitney jet engines installed were known for compressor stalls. Quite a few F-14’s were lost to this issue before the new jet engines were ready and installed into new F-14’s and retrofitted into the older ones. There was also an issue with the ejection system that resulted in the loss of more than a few pilots/RIO’s. Considering this was in the 80’s and the engines compressor stall issues were known since the F-14’s deployment in the late 70’s, Maverick should have known as well about the compressor stall issue as well as Iceman to avoid a situation where he, could even possibly, flew through the turbulent air of another jets jet wash.

You made a GREAT point about the intros to movies. Today's youth have an incontinence problem with their brains...they just GOTTA have everything crammed down their throats yesterday. I find it irritating when a younger reactor makes a comment about credits they have to sit through at the beginning of a movie or about that fact that a dozen things haven't blown up in the first five minutes. Point is, I like your appreciation for setting the mood, which is EXACTLY what it does. And this movie is arm-hair raising, showing these incredible sailors doing their work on the mammoth deck of an aircraft carrier. You left more of that part of the movie in than any other reactor I've watched so far. I don't think I'm alone in really getting jazzed about that part of the movie because I found a video online of JUST the opening credits. And that music! Harold Faltermeyer!!!

Yes, this movie was about recruitment. But, this movie is also about character growth while holding on to your 'core'. Maverick corrected EVERYTHING he did wrong, except the fly-by, 🤣. ALSO, one thing I NEVER see mentioned is that TWO planes did the fly-by at the end indicating that Maverick may have learned to play by the rules, but Iceman learned how to break the rules. A match made in heaven beyond our beloved Goose.

Common misconception, bald dude is not the captain of the ship, but likely the CAG, or the Commander Air Group. He is in charge of the all the aircraft, pilots and their operations. The captain of the carrier proper is usually a full O-6 Captain, wearing an eagle as rank, whereas the guy here is an O-5 Commander with silver oak leaves. That also said, a Rear Admiral is usually in command of the Carrier Group.
