6:19 Except the SAMs in the film are not modern (SA-3 / S-125), and in fact older designs than the F-14 they stole. You would be correct in that flares wouldnt be effective against them, but for the reason that those SAMs are radar guided and not infrared guided / heatseekers. Good analysis tho

There's no way a fighter from the late 60's can put up a fight with a fifth gen. It just can't, not in a dog fight, not at this range, no matter how good the pilot is. The F-14 is outclassed in every single department and the terrain jamming the missile lock-on of any modern fighter is as unrealistic as it gets. The first SU-57 getting shot from behind by surprise at close range is somewhat believable, but after that, it's over. Especially when the other SU-57 was already on the F-14's six. The SU-57 pilots were highly incompetent bus drivers. The US Navy and its pilots have also a lot to gain and promoting the narrative that a +50 years old american F-14 can somehow beat a [insert enemy country]'s fifth gen fighter, because Murica, will do a world of good to the recruitment. It's a good movie, very entertaining, but it's just that. A movie. If you want an unbiased opinion from former US fighter pilots who also flew F18s in real life (which are more advanced fighters than the F14 but still no match for a fifth gen be it an F22 or a SU-57 in a dog fight), on the movie and break down every single flight scene as well as what happens on the base, check this link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/innIoH6gi9F5idk
