As an old Gas RC guy this print your plane thing is the stuff of dreams 40yrs ago! Just ordering a 3D printer.. My kids are talking robots and stuff and will be really excited about learning 3d printing. We will not be short of ideas and stuff to design and print for sure. Thanks for the videos sure brings back memories. By the way APC props were started as a retirement hobby by a member of the club I was at as a kid. He would bring us props to test on our planes. Our once a yr club pylon race he always had the fastest plane😆

I’ve been watching and subscribed to your channel for a few weeks. Trying a 3D Lab Zero and it kills me to see how easily all of your pieces key together. Mine are always a struggle. Lots of help watching your videos and it’s getting better printing them but this thin wall printing is a steep curve for me. Thanks for the great videos.

Take care to avoid elephant's foot. The construction method 3dLabPrints uses has one side slipping into the other via a small lip. That lip is prone to elephants foot expansion and I found all mine needed to be lightly sanded down around that lip. They everything went together fine.
@joku5150
@joku5150 Жыл бұрын
Depending on what slicer you're using, the horizontal expansion (Cura) is a very helpful setting for things that fit too tight (or not at all). I have to use it with PETG (-.02 average), but not typically with PLA. Might need to dial in the calibrations on your printer a bit.

Yay...your finally getting around to some 3dLabPrint planes :) The P-51 is one of their earlier ones so they are a bit more difficult to build but the early wing ribbing design on this and the Spitfire MK XVI is still my favorite wing build.
@InspGadgt
@InspGadgt 2 жыл бұрын
I built mine with the 6s power version instead and still used a spinner on the prop so it looked more scale.

The print settings are a challenge to say the least. Going to go back to it and try it again now that I understand the prime and retraction settings better on the upgraded direct drive.
@InspGadgt
@InspGadgt 2 жыл бұрын
@@wadebrewer7212 It is even more challenging if you print in PETG. I've printed probably a dozen planes now and I'm still trying to get the settings better.

@@InspGadgt I got the bright idea to LEARN in Silk. The first one may not be a flier to be honest. But man...im telling the look on the Eclipson P51 prints is EXACTLY what I wanted. Looks just like aircraft aluminum that hasnt been polished under light. If nothing else....print a wing section out of the stuff just for kicks. Running Geeetech silver. I think the overture silk prints better and has better layer adhesion, but the Geeetech is something else when you get it right. I'm wondering how a PETG Silver would look in comparison, I know it would be stronger and stand up to summer flying heat better. Thoughts?
@wadebrewer7212
@wadebrewer7212 2 жыл бұрын
@@InspGadgt started prints on the 3DLabPrint P51D first btw. Switched over to trying the Eclipson design. A lot easier with their ribbing design to print. The foil design seems a bit better than the 3dLabPrint design too. However, having the two in your hand the 3DLabPrint is more detailed and scale IMO.

Been watching you videos for quite some time. Have followed your printing recommendations for LW-PLA and do not get what I would call "acceptable" results. I have built several different Eclipson planes, the Shark, and this P51 and in PLA all come out fantastic! Use a PRUSA Clone, Voxelab Aquila, ANYCUBIC Kobra and ANYCUBIC vyper all fantastic with PLA - no luck with LW-PLA yet... Can you PLEASE do a show on e-sun LW-PLA and show Eclipson A profile for LW-PLA and what a part should weigh and what it looks like UP CLOSE when you print it? Thanks

I like your printed planes. When I saw 4.5 pitch prop with 1100kv motor and 3s battery I was going to say that it will be on the slow side more like a slow stick setup and will not fly well. Then I realized that you later switched to a 6 pitch and went for 4s and that is more like it. Best of luck in your future builds...

Hi Troy, how did you manage CG? Mine is after assembly very tailheavy and asks for ~70g weight at foremost position with 3s 2200 lipo. 4s seems too heavy to me. Overall weight of the plane with 3s is ~880g, quite close to your value. Thanks for any advise.

I'm surprised the masking tape on the servos holds well enough. Personally I use an old trick from my RC car racing days and glue them in with Shoe Goo. Shoe Goo holds through even the hardest crash but is removable later so you can re-use the servo.

Every nxt project must be progressively 1. More challenging / complex ie 3 ch to 4 ch to 5 ch flaps to 6 retracts, lights shock proof retracts to these with.unlimited.vertical ..all these+payload, longer range 2. Flight & ground handling More dialed / locked in & crisp 3. Longer flight time & more robust

the reversable front bolt of the wing is BS. touching the ground with the wingtip causes broken wing and fuse at once. also the rear printed plate of the motor melts after a while and the screws come loose. P47 rubberband is ten times better.

hello troy mc Milan, you are very good at making airplanes with a 3d printer, but until now you have only made model airplanes, I ask you why don't you also make a helicopter with a drone mounted on top of the blades instead of the blades? .I made it, "Augusta bell 206b" with large scale depron fuselage, 135cm long fuselage. omnibus v3 flight board with betaflight firmware flies very well and very stable. it turns like a real helicopter and once in flight you no longer notice the lack of blades. you could create the fuselage in 3d printing. I advise you not to make it small but a class º class 700 like mine. you would do it with more precision than my work done by eye and by hand. you would have a bunch of views for the novelty. in my channel I will publish a short video of my unconventional helicopter project or rather of my HELYDRONE. hello good job
