Alec, thank you so much for your videos. I tied my last fly about 50 years ago. The top hat is a key fly on the Stillwater I am now using. I have tried to find it in tackle shops but no luck. Your video has given me the incentive to get back to fly tying starting with the black hat. Thank you

Awesome pattern! When you change the colour of the fly do you change the colour of the foam as well or do you always use black foam? Will white foam be ok to make it more visible or will that put the fish off at all? Many thanks for the pattern Matt

Hi Alec……Thanks for the video…very good…..You mention the length of the shank on a wet fly hook size 16…. Do you use any particular hook…. Thanking you…. Fly looks deadly and is a great method of fishing..👍👍

Yes they are best on a size 16 /18 Hanak 230BL 👍🎣🐟

I will be purchasing some these hooks and tying some ‘Top Hats’ Having watched yourself and Peter fishing the fly it is obviously a very Pleasurable and rewarding method of fishing. Thank you very much for all your video’s……..I have been very much a Salmon Fishing Person and had lost touch with modern day Trout Flies. Thank to your video’s I now have lots of good flies to tie.. Alec, In your other Top Hat videos, you use a wet fly hook, whereas here you're using a dry fly hook. Do you have a strong preference? As always, thank you for your fine instructional videos. Cheers,
