Went to look further into him, according to his Wikipedia page he had reached the height of 5 ft at the age of 3-4 years old, 6 ft at 8 years old, and 7 ft at 10 years old. Wonder how tall he could've been if he hadn't passed so young (22 years old).

Robert Waldow was 8 ft. 11 inches at age 22 & was still growing approx. 1 1/2 inches each year in his early twenties. Robert would have been 10 feet tall if he lived to the young age of 30. That is simply amazing & an unthinkable height. No person will ever break Robert's height record as they would undergo surgery to fix pituitary gland issue. Procedure would either stop growth or kill person in surgery.

Ever? No, we don't know if ever. We have no good data about the people that lived 500 to 10000 years ago, to know if anyone taller lived or not. There very well could have been someone that surpassed his height at some point but his existence would have been lost to time such as a big portion of all the history of those civilizations that lived at those times, obviously. There's many legends and myths that talk about extremely tall people, "giants". Most of these myths and legends are just exaggerated of course so there's no way to know how tall these giants trully were, but what this tells us is that, for sure, there used to be people with gigantism in the past (I mean why wouldn't there have been) and one if not many of them could easily have surpassed Wadlow.

Average height for men back then was around 1,65-1,68m whereas today in most european and american countries the average height for men is around 1,76m-1,80m. Also back then even the tiniest illness could mean very early death as there was practically no medicine and plagues and death everywhere. I really think Wadlow is the tallest person who has ever lived and probably will be the tallest forever as today medicine is able to prevent uncontrollable growth caused by tumors. Edit: also all the giants that live today seem to cap out at around 2,40m with Sultan Cosen being the tallest of them all at around 2,50m. So genetics also seem to play a huge roll. Wadlow still was over 20cm taller! And to the myths: i have a very tall friend who stands at 2,11m and when i stand next to him and wouldn't know his height, i could never tell if he's 25 or 35cm taller than me. Now imagine a medieval man at 1,65m standing next to a 2,30m dude. He has to look up so much, for sure most people would exaggurate and think he's like a meter taller than them. On Mills Dardens grave even stands it is said he was 2,56m tall even though it is proven he was 2,29m. So all these 3m myths probably are big cap bs.

This isn't be saying he wasn't all that tall, but people in the past that weren't even put onto a record or some type of evidence of their existence could have potentially been a lot bigger (I don't think there will ever being anyone in modern society to ever be as tall or taller than Robert, or even in the future).

How did they determine how much Darden weighed? The man typically refused to get on scales. Clever friends found a way around that. They marked how close to the ground the bed of Darden’s wagon sank beneath his weight. Later they sneakily put stones into the same wagon until the bed was down to the same level. They weighed the stones. More than 1,000 pounds.

In all fairness Andre actually was shorter during the end of his career due to his huge body continuing to grow and put pressure on his spine. I don't believe he was ever 7' 4" but he was close in his prime, because his passport read just under 7' 2"

John Middletons story is interesting, he was called to fight the kings wrestler. Although a quiet man he went to London and the wrestler died, the Childe of Hale as he was known became a favourite of the king and stayed. his grave is in Hale cemetary a suberb of Liverpool. The lady pictured is next to the new statue, the original carved from a standing tree. but recently replaced. great place to visit.

Darden actually lived to be 57 surprisingly enough, despite being that tall and that heavy. He was only officially weighed post porterm and had as such lost weight by then. if he was actually 460 kg. is unknown but the estimate probably wasn't far off. If I had a timemachine I would go back just to get a sight of that man, truly a giant in every sense of the word.

Darden was likely both full of muscle and fat. Not just "no" for fat because he could do farm work. Still.. I wish I could have seen him. Fascinating. That's the internet for you... I looked him up long ago as a kid reading the Guinness book of world records, and it seemed other kids then (the 70's) only like to read about the longest hit baseball or biggest ball of string. Which I find boring as hell. To each his/her own I suppose. I was mesmerized thinking about giant animals and people, small things that were strong, the natural world. When I was reading the short list back then of tallest, I also read the heaviest, and noticed one man (Darden), could register on both! Then when seeing how long ago he lived, I knew he wasn't likely sitting around. Those were tough times, and most people farmed. That meant he was a monster and I would give anything to see him throw stuff around.... from a distance. It seemed nobody cared about that stuff until I saw some videos that brought him up-- instantly this low-tech chump felt jealous. I knew about him long ago and nobody seemed to care LOL. Now it's on every video of giants.
