Yuna makes toe jumps look easy. She makes the jumps look powerful yet very graceful. And Elizaveta is probably the only Russian in the list with satisfying lutz. She gets so much height from her lutz, and it has very "deliberate" execution.

Of course, still some pre-rotation, but much more on the toe-pick instead of using the full blade, which is probably much easier on her back, meaning she might actually get a longer career than other eteri girls. And not to mention unlike everyone in eteri's camp she has a deep outside edge on her lutz.

@@ariaespa almost EVERY skater has prerotation today, it's the right way of jumping. Sasha prerotates a bit more than 1/4, which is a VALID technique (most of the skaters today are around 1/2 prerotation). She doesn't use full blade. And she is the only lady who jumps a valid quad lutz, so she must be praised for that.

Why a lot of people still call Yuna a perfect jump technician among current so-called prodigy young skaters is.. 1. very minimum pre-rotation- always rotates while airborne and finishes rotation before landing ( unlike many loopz take off skaters now days) 2. PERFECT toe assisted jumps (no cheated blade assisted jumps) 3. Insane distance and height as well as incomparable speed into the jumps (no hesitation at all) 4. very high consistency rates 5. This is often overlooked by people because it is the easiest 3 jump of all, but check her 3 toe-loop. She has no 'toe axel' take off at all. Even good Lutz jumpers have toe axel take off on their 3 toe-loop. But Yuna's 3 toe loop is literally a perfect example of 3 toe loop. It is very difficult not opening a torso and you should let two feet take off at the same time when doing 3 toe loop. 99% of top ladies from the past and current have 'toe axel' take off and it is not a correct technique.

1/2 prerotation non a toe loop is a valid technique (look at the official ISU simulations). Having no prerotation on a toeloop is almost impossible, and this is not how the jump has to be done. Yuna and Yuzuru are one the few skaters who did so, but that doesn't mean this is the only correct technique. It's just a greater difficulty, they remain exceptions, not a reference.

The only thing in common with everyone’s lists in the comment section is that Queen Yuna on top of all of them! Besides her, Polina and Eliza are some of my favorites as well in this video. If anyone is up to date with skating, you would see Sasha’s current technique has improved (more toe pick use and deeper edge) and has gotten way stronger. In my opinion, her, You Young, and Liza have the best Lutz among the current ladies atm. (Props to Rika’s strong outside edge. However, because of how insanely fast she rotates, her jumps can get a little small and sometimes have unsteady landings)

Just as they have closed their eyes to wrong edge in the past, now they're giving the green light to a full-blade take off on Lutzes and Flips, and nobody cares anymore. It's all a matter of popularity, reputation, famous coach and country represented. And the ISU wouldn't dare implement a rule which would penalize those who use full blade on toe jumps if it means penalize beloved skaters from the most powerful federations.

To be honest it's kind of what I expected given the erm... "judging" over the past few seasons. This nevertheless ticked me off slightly. Love skating but it's kind of a joke how the skaters doing "real" Lz jumps are never really rewarded as much as they should. I don't really care how little-known or lower-tiered a skater is - If they are doing a good & real Lz, they should get rewarded for what they are actually doing well. Similarly those favoured to be at the top should get rewarded for what they do well and fairly docked for what they aren't doing right otherwise it's just a mockery of athletic competition and the skaters who bothered to learn the jump properly. Putting a million steps and turns right before the jump doesn't mean much if you didn't actually take off on the outside edge on the skating foot with proper toe assist from the other. The weird scoring is like peeing on someone's leg and telling them that it's raining. It's so obvious! I mean... real fans do have eyes... Done ranting now.

RIP ISU. Literally basically all of the people have a flutz/floop after Queen Yuna Kim. This is surreal. It makes me so pissed off because, Yuna had such good technique, until she got robbed at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Games. Please. This is a heads up for ISU. Stop sleeping on your job and make edge calls. JUDGE CORRECTLY ISU. For Alina, she has a flat/inside edge, I'm sad that her one and only technique of the outside edge on lutz is basically gone this year. Besides that, everybody has 1/2 prerotation and it makes me sick that people get such good goe's. Especially with Anna and Sasha. Sasha's isn't that bad besides the prerotation, but Anna constantly shifts to an inside edge. If you're gonna attempt quads, then why not at least have good technique like Queen Yuna. No hate, it's just that the artistry and technique in ISU is gone. No hate to any of the skaters.

Zagitova I can understand, her 3Lz+3Lo, when she hit them where absolutely gorgeous. But Medvedeva at first place? Hmm. It's good to see though that the judge bias is not only one country based, both Medvedeva and Osmond had flutzes. I missed Shcherbakova on this list. Even though the judges were quite hard on her at times, she was very well rewarded for some of her quad Lutzes. Edit: I checked, Shcherbakova's Lutzes were never rewarded enough to be on this list.

Lutz judging in recent years is becoming inconsistent (and inflated as you said). Many of the high GOE jumps in this list do not have clear edges (no 1 is even a flutz, understandable it was during the Med craze era), and beautiful take off (toe pick, minimum prerotation) is not truly appreciated. I love tano, rippon, difficult entry-exit, but if the jump itself does not have a clear edge, not utilize toe pick, and prerotate too much then it should not get high GOE. It is my opinion and I know that the rule book right now does not define this, so yeah...

I don't think it as racist, it's more a national bias due to politicking. When a skater becomes a favorite to dominate the season, the federation usually back up said skater. It's not only a Russian thing, many other countries have done this before.

Interesting video. However I realize that the statutes of the ISU are greatly influenced by the popularity of the skaters and they don't objectively look at technique like they should. I say this because if they were truly fair scores, the first places would be very different. Making a completely impartial analysis (from an absolutely technical point of view) the order would be as follows: 1. Yuna Kim 2. Polina Tsurskaya (textbook lutz of the entire Russian circuit, evidence here.- kzbin.info/www/bejne/bqLcY6GoYtuol7s ) 3. Liza Tuktamysheva 4. Carolina Kostner 5. Ksenia Sinytsina 6. Alena Kostornaia (because her technique is not Tutberidze inheritance, while the other girls show the pre-rotation even if they do 3 or 4 jumps) 7. Gracie Gold I do not include Rika Kihira for the following reason: her lutz is not bad, however she has the same situation as Satoko Miyahara regarding the height of her jumps, so despite the fact that she has good power at the entrance to the jump, it does not look so light in the turns in the air and the landing feels somewhat forced.

Sinitsyna’s jumps are quite small including her Lutz, Rika’s in fact is much bigger. Gracie also didn’t have a great toe tap and Alena’s edge is very inconsistent. Kawabata should be top 5 and before Gracie, Alena, or Ksenia there should also be Araki, Yamashita, Tarakanova, Chen, and Kihira

Top Tier (Prerequisite: Deep Outside Edge) Yuna, Liza, Carolina, Tomoe Great Tier (Prerequisite: Outside Edge) Polina, Mako, Gracie, Rika, Anastasia Ok Tier (Prerequisite: Outside Edge) Alina (Early Seniors), Alena (Seniors) [Much better technique now just the edge isn’t quite there yet], Ksenia, Kamila, Alexandra Meh Tier Kaetlyn [Shame about the edge otherwise great], Alina (Late Seniors), Alena (Juniors), Eunsoo, Daria Bad Tier Stanislava, Evgenia There are other skaters not on this list who have great lutzes (e.g. Karen, Alexia). Also quite a few of these skaters 3Lz-3T aren’t as good/better than the lutzes themselves, for example: -Polina, who’s 3T is very Toe-Axely and I’m not a fan of her air position -Eunsoo has great speed and flow throughout her combos but her lutz is very problematic -Some skaters have issues with rotating the 3T like Tomoe

Elaine Ran agreed. For example I love Kaetlyn’s lutz *despite* having very questionable edge - it’s miles ahead of all the other ones in that tier because of it’s power/height. I tried to differentiate between those factors in the great and ok tiers, taking into account prerotation, height, speed, flow. But I still think to be one of the best lutzes it needs to be deep outside (altho you still have great ones that aren’t)

when you watch these jumps in real, not on TV or the internet, you will see the real difference in between the skaters. Yuna and some others are called a true Lutz jumpers, but when you watch in the real eye you realise why Yuna is still regarded as one of a kind in skating. Her speed, height and the distance are just on another level. Moreover, she had a real prime time of her skating from approx 18yrs old up until 23years when she retired. Unlike nowadays where we see 17-18yrs old skaters go into a semi-retirement or lose their consistency.

While I appreciate the effort it might have been more accurate if it was an aggregate scoring of all their lutz jumps. The top 2 were known to not have strong edges. Ultimately Yuna had the best lutz.

Panchino Maldonado Rika’s isn’t a deep edge Lutz. It is mostly flat! Sorry to disappoint. And her jumps are extremely low. They don’t look impressive. And generally her skating isn’t very memorable. There is no personality. I don’t find myself wanting to rewatch her performances at all. Kaori Sakomoto is way more exciting to watch and her skating skills are way better too! Plus she is so fun and lively, with lots if energy! Rika is too boring. I’d rather watch Medvedeva with her terrible technique than Rika, lol.

Thank god this vid was according to judges. Evgenia's flutz will never be 1st, Yuna is queen. Also, the second lutz of Kostornaia was on a flat blade. That's her common problems till now, even after her triple axel. 1. Yuna is the best lutz queen 2. Trusova's technique was good too 3. Elizaveta and Osmond are good for me. The clockwise rotations just confuse the hell out of me
