instead of using mechanical bearings it's often easier to use a windmill bearing and build the arm out of wool or sails then it'll produce the mechanical stress itself and won't need a seperate power input. also if i remember correctly such a treefarm uses no stress units directly as bearings (along with belts, gantries, and pulleys) don't eat SU on their own

You were wrong on ratio Create metal press is better for plate 7:22 5 ingot -> 80% -> ~4 plate for metal press / 6 ingot -> 4 Plate for forge hammer

the mechanical press is actually quite good if you do the math. using the steam machine that makes sheets, you get 2 sheets per 3 ingots, which means you get 1 sheet every 1.5 ingots. using the mechanical press you have an 80% of getting 1 sheet for 1 ingot and 20% of getting nothing. if you put the same resources into the press, 3 ingots you have these chances: 3 sheets: 51.2% 2 sheets: 38.4% 1 sheet: 9.6% 0 sheets: 0.8% so, chances are you are favourable that you are actually going to get all 3 sheets for the 3 ingots, and even if one of them gets lost, there is still a good chance you still get the 2 sheets that you were going to get, there is less than 1/10 that you get only 1 and

It is a matter of safe vs mass peoducrion. I do not mind voiding some rogth iron or copper when i make plates. But if you manage to lose even 3 to 4 ingots out of your red/blue steel production bunch. God it hurts in ways i did not knew i could expirience.

@@EtherialofNowhere but is safer to use the press too. with the press you have a 20% of losing each ingot to get a sheet, with the hammer you are certain that 33.3% of the time you lose an ingot. using the forge hammer is like using a mechanical press that has a 66.7% success rate, just use the one that has 80%, you are wasting more of your precious red/blue steel ingots by not using the press.

@@arthaiser I sometimes rolled 4-5 unlucky strickes. Probability is one thing, your personal luck is other. I do not need to make 500 plates i need to make 50 or so to jump to electricity and bender, which solves this dilema for good. And here it can reveal itself if you are unlucky.

The explosion was a wooden pipe since you didn't force the pipe to only output to the boiler. it accepted some steam while it was empty

Hey where can I find the keybind for switching the flow of a pipe with a wrench? When I shift right click with my wrench in hand I get a Configuration Mode tooltip at the bottom of my screen.

Hmm I'm not sure the exact keybind, make sure there is nothing in your offhand though, that's usually the issue

The problem i have is i can't make mechanical pumps until I've got steam power. Because i need treated pulp which is made with the macerator.

put a barrel of water diagonal one block above and have it on it's side and open it will poor into a block to kickstart the process

I'm stuck on the whole moving water part right now, how do i get water sources up? i know about aqueducts but they dont go up how do i, in early steam age, move water where i want it to go?

You can use a saw and move ice during winter :)

craft a red steel bucket or higher at the end of the tfc metal alloying. There should be a quest for it in the primitive tab. Red steel bucket can move cold liquid source blocks, blue steel bucket can move hot liquid source blocks, combine them together to get a vanilla bucket that can move both alternatively, live near a river if you need some moving water earlier than that

is there a way to make steel (and iron) in ulv or lv other than using terrafirma's blast furnace or bloomery?

An LV Arc Furnace is your friend, Before that I've heard if you put a (create) mechanical pump and pump the steel directly out of the blast furnace into a cast it, it instantly cools which makes the whole process a lot faster (I haven't tested this)

@@Dragonium10190 I'm having an issue. Hammer changes the sound output and not the steam output. Using wrench does nothing in the front, does allow to change to any side except front. Chutes block the top and bottom, fluid pipes block the back, sides are blocked by other machines. The only possible solution is to space them out, like you said. I wonder how did it work for you? PS: Wrench on the front changes the "Configuration mode" (fluid, item, both), whatever that means...

Yeah the machine setup doesn't work. You can´t make it output steam on the front and all other sides are blocked.
