The difference between a good and a great solo - a good solo is technically proficient, original and sounds nice. a great solo is a piece of music that the song or greater composition cannot do without and is to a significant degree defined by it. All of the soloists and solos in this composition are good, even very good - but a few are great. Winter madness is one example of a great solo - it completely 'makes' the song, which is why Jari is a great songwriter.

quite a few of these aren't neo classical. you seem to confuse certain sweep picked licks and arpeggios for "neoclassical" and some how you've left out yngwie. "far beyond the sun", "blitzkrieg", "black star".

Two more words - Part Three (yes Yngwie is on part one but check part three anyway). Also, the description says MELODIC/neo-classical metal bands (part three also has shred in the description I believe) so I think the solos that are in here can stay.

Is it just me, or does all this shredding sound the same after a few minutes? I realize the work that goes into learning the style, but would offer that there needs to be more melodic content in the music to keep the listener interested. I get the same feeling when listening to hardcore jazz.

It's not only you...Wintersun, Versailles, Reign Of Terror or Luca Turilli's stuff do sound great but most bands on this list sound quiet generic. Like everyone could come up with those solos after learning the right technique.

How many times can people get this wrong?! Dragonforce is Power Metal! Amazing guitarists but one Neo Classical lick doesn't constitute as a Neo Classical band also listen to all of those gallops, Neo Classical Metal doesn't use gallops, that's only Power Metal, Versailles aren't even just Neo Classical Metal, they're a mix between that and Power Metal. There really is only a tiny handful of Neo Classical bands, it's mainly solo artists.
